Detailed Reviews
Very friendly and efficient staff. Great local knowledge and happy to help with any enquires about Reykjavík. Modern and clean hotel. Incredibly convenient as it’s right on the Main Street of Laugavegur. Bus stop for all the excursions is right outside so you can even stand inside to look out and await your pick up if it’s too cold. Comfy warm room with lovely toiletries (shampoo/body wash/hair conditioner) in large decent pump dispensers rather than those silly little bottles some hotels supply. Bed was very comfortable with lovely white crisp bedding.
Breakfast was pretty impressive for the usual continental style. Plenty of choice, regularly topped up with fresh food and tables were cleared quickly so even in the busiest period, there was always enough seating. The attached coffee shop, Stokk, was very good with lovely fresh sandwiches, soup and pastries. There is a convenient option to purchase items for a packed lunch for organised tour too. The evening restaurant, Loa, was also excellent. Not a huge menu which I think is often a good sign as it usually means everything is freshly cooked. Very tasty and appetising and not too expensive by Icelandic standards. Waiting staff were wonderful. Happy to accommodate any special requests. If you want to eat out, there is a huge choice of restaurants and bars easily within walking distance too.
We thought this hotel was perfect for our Icelandic mini break and will definitely be booking here again when we revisit this wonderful and fascinating country.

We were really surprised with the calibre of this hotel - we booked for value, location (close to shops/bars/restaurants), and the modern, spacious look of the rooms, but we didn't expect such great reception staff or the trendy lobby/onsite restaurant and bar.
The staff were so friendly at check-in, offering up great ideas for where to grab drinks and food. Our room was on the second floor and was really spacious, modern with beautiful windows and lots of light. You can hear a bit of street noise, but this didn't bother us at all - we were often out in the action ourselves! The whole hotel has a really great vibe. We really enjoyed having drinks at the bar and the jazz night that was hosted. We would definitely stay here again!

The City Hotel Laugavega is ideal for short stay, but above a week tends to lack storage space. Rooms are spacious and very warm, staff are friendly and efficient. Good point: TV has several UK channels including BBC1 & 2 and ITV.
Bad Point: This is a silly little niggle. The body lotion/shampoo containers are fixed to the shower wall at the tap end of the bath, quite high up and ideal for the shower. If, however, after a day in freezing rain, you fancy soaking in a hot bath, these containers are quite out of reach and necessitate standing each time you need the soap.
Iceland is an expensive country to visit. If you enjoy an evening nightcap I strongly advise buying a bottle at duty free on the way out. A hotel dinner with wine will cost about £80 - £100 for 2 people, though there are many small restaurants which are much cheaper.
Highlights: The Golden Circle, which was included in our deal. Grayline Tours have some amazing and knowledgeable guides and you can learn much about Icelandic history and culture on this tour. The biggest thrill was seeing the Gullfoss waterfall. We went at a time when the mountain snows were thawing and rivers were in full flow. Totally breathtaking (even on a wet and windy day).
Downside: As our guide said, "Flights and hotels deals are cheap, but boy, do we sting you when you get here !" The famous Northern Lights are fickle. We chased over 200km in one night and only got the briefest of glimpses of what looked like a pale green cloud. The good news is Greyline will allow you free repeat tours until you get a good view.
Would I go back ? Certainly, but next time, in the summer to see a different face to the country.

Great Hotel in the heart of Reykjavik's food strip with dozens of restaurants and shops all in walking distance, It's a clean, Warm and Modern hotel that made you forget it was in the minus outside, A very Helpful and attentive staff made for a worry free stay, the Restaurant situated at the back of the hotel hosted a full tasty buffet breakfast with your hot and cold food of choice guaranteeing that you'll be stuffed for your day of exploration and at dinner it has a varied menu with lots of tasty choices.
To the left it had a small grab and go cafe with sandwiches, salads and snacks to keep you topped up if you so need it.
You have the Reykjavik excursions bus stop and the Hop on Hop off stops right outside the hotel so you can trust that you'll get off exactly where you need to be.
would recommend this place 100x over.

We chose this hotel due to its location and it was a brand new hotel. We purchased bus transfers by SmartBus from Silica Hotel, Blue Lagoon to Bus Stop 9, which literally stop at this hotel. We arrived quite early, around 11am and we were given the room key immediately upon check-in. Excellent service from everyone. The front office suggested us to visit all of the must-see attractions. We basically walked everywhere around the city. Too bad, that we experienced the bad weather on our second day, where all flights and trips were cancelled. Luckily we were in the centre of the city, hence we still have something to do and somewhere to go to. In between our stay, we went for a 2D,1N trip to the South. Our luggage were kept safely here. Breakfast selection could be improved as they provided the same menu every day.

Myself, my husband and 4 friends have just returned from an amazing trip to Iceland and this hotel.
We had a bit of a problem with lights in room when we arrived but that was soon resolved by the lovely reception staff and we were moved to a larger room over looking the entrance to hotel and Main Street with A lovely big window which made the room light and airy and a voucher for free drinks each for inconvenience on arrival.
Rooms are modern and very clean everything you need for a short break. Nice toiletries in bathroom including body wash, shampoo, body cream, shower caps etc. Hair dryer and kettle with teas and coffees supplied in room. There was a mini bar at an extra cost.
Rooms lovely and warm which is nice to come into after a day out in the cold.
Hotel Restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced. Breakfast Was nice with bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs no beans unfortunately, plenty of cold meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, bread, cereal and yoghurt. Nice cosy lounge area to wait for tour buses.
Lots to see near by within walking distance and plenty of restaurants and bars although all a bit pricey but to be expected in Iceland just keep eye out for happy hour in bars then not to bad.
All in all an amazing trip to a beautiful country in a lovely hotel well worth a visit.

We were on the 3rd floor overlooking Laugavegur and had a balcony. The room was very clean with plenty of room for our suitcases and still walk around. There was a safe and tea/coffee facilities in the room which were restocked every day. Unfortunately there was no decaf coffee but I took extra sachets from the breakfast buffet. The staff were helpful and I'm sure if I had asked they would have arranged for some to be brought up. The bathroom was a good size and clean with liquid soap & body lotion by the sink and hair/shower gel & conditioner by the shower.
Breakfast had a good selection of cereal, bread, meats, cheese, fruit, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, pastries and porridge. It was help yourself buffet style with efficient staff clearing away dirty dishes.
Our friends had an issue with the curtains in their room which was rectified within an hour.
The location is excellent next to bus stop 9 for excursions and for a walk to the bars/restaurants/cafes, cathedral and sun voyager. We would definitely stay here again.

This review is long overdue.
I was in Iceland back in Nov 2019 (the website won't let me choose before May 2020), and knew nothing of it. All I knew is that I wanted something quite Central to as many things as possible, and this hotel matched my needs in regards to price and location.
Some time has passed so I hope they have the parking situation figured out. If you're unable to find a spot in their back parking lot, there is an underground parking garage across the street, but who wants that, really. We were pretty luck and were able to get a hotel parking spot for the majority of the nights we were there.
The check in process was a little hilarious. We were pretty early since our flight came in around 5am, so we dropped off our bags, and drove around for a few hours. We came back maybe about 30 min before our rooms were officially ready, but I think they hurried since we were dripping water everywhere from our adventure at one of the waterfalls.
The elevator buttons for the second floor are tricky - just keep in mind that one leads you to about 3 stairs and the other has a little ramp which is nice for luggage.
Breakfast buffet was great. Get their early. It's tough to get a seat during their busy season, but they did a solid job of making sure the essentials were there.
Speak to the people staying at the hotel. Everyone has their opinion on where to see the Northern Lights. Just keep an eye on the Icelandic radar system as that worked best for us. We were fortunate to see them and a lot of people didn't since the sky was so cloudy for days.
The hotel is also the stop for several bus tours so as the Front desk for details. When you need a break from being a tourist, just take an all day hop on - hop off bus tour. See the sights. Walk around. Relax.
The hotel is very clean. Probably one of the cleanest hotels I have ever been in. Take advantage of that heating rack in the bathroom, as it warmed our hats and scarves for the adventures on the next day. I wish there was more lighting in the room - it was terribly dark, since the sun fades by 3pm.
Other than that, I plan to go back. This hotel served all of my needs, and everyone was really nice.

My mother and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at CenterHotel Laugavegur. Having booked using a voucher we purchased from Groupon, we weren’t expecting much but we were absolutely blown away. Our voucher included 5 nights accommodation, plus breakfast and a 3 course meal every morning/evening.
First of all, the breakfast included everything you could possibly want first thing in the morning; fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, fresh bread, jams, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages - the list goes on! Second of all, the evening dinner menu was much more extensive than I could have imagined (I had a different starter, main, and dessert every single day) and each dish was absolutely delicious. I am a meat eater, however I did notice and was very impressed with the various vegetarian/vegan options available too.
In addition, the staff were absolutely amazing and always willing to assist us. Everyone made us feel so welcome during our stay, especially Dinko and Miroslav in the bar/restaurant - we can’t thank you enough for your wonderful service!
Finally, the location of this hotel is perfect. It’s a walking distance from all of the major landmarks, including Hallgrimskirkja and Harpa Concert Hall. The hotel side door is located directly in front of bus stop 9. We had no issues booking our excursions/hotel transfer from here, but had we failed that, it’s a short walking distance from bus stops 10 and 13 too.
In a nutshell, do not hesitate to stay here - amazing staff, food, and location!!

From beginning to end perfect. Our Flybus stopped right outside the hotel. We were very early for our check in but we were able to purchase breakfast and store our luggage. The rooms are very small but the price, great breakfast included the following morning and it’s convenience more than made up for a small room. We were impressed that in such a small space, everything was available, including a towel heater that worked perfectly for hand washing a few items. The staff were upbeat and helpful in calling a cab so we could go to the National Museum. Would we return, most certainly.
