Detailed Reviews
My room with two twin beds, with a lovely view of the water was clean and welcoming, though pretty bare-bones. No coffee or tea available in the room, which is a great amenity for me.
Breakfast, at $14 US was overpriced based on what little was offered, and I'm glad I skipped it.
It's a great location if you want to stay near the airport for an early departure, and there is complimentary shuttle service one way for one stay.
It's centrally located and there are many restaurants near by, as well as a beach walkway which is easy to access and very pretty.
What surprised me was the unfriendly reception and dismissive attitude at the front desk. I emailed the hotel 3 times before my arrival to address a scheduling issue, and never heard back. When I attempted to discuss this with the receptionist on arrival I was told she was just there "to check in arrivals", and had no information or ability to contact anyone related to booking. She suggested I email. When I told her I had emailed three times and hadn't heard back, and asked her what else I might do, she simply replied "I don't know".
In the morning when I was ready for my 8a shuttle departure (confirmed on arrival) there was no one at the front desk. At 8:15 the same receptionist came in, and when I asked about the 8a ride to the airport, she acted put-out and annoyed that I asking about my ride, and again dismissed my questions with, "They will be here soon to take you." There were a few others in the lobby who shared they had been similarly dismissed about their questions.
It's a pretty hotel, the room was nice, great wifi, great location, but frustrating and disappointing customer service.

After a long drive from Akureyri, staying at the hotel for 1 night was just what we needed. We slept very well despite the awful weather conditions. The hotel was kind enough to accommodate my disabled mum with a ground floor room. The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable.
There are amenities nearby ( take aways, an Irish pub opposite, supermarket up the road and the museum is walkable down in the harbour).
Breakfast was a standard continental style with tea, coffee, juice, cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, meats and cheeses. It was enough for us.
We were also offered tea and coffee on arrival and during the day prior to departure. The WiFi worked well and was fast.
Overall a good hotel in Keflavik! Would recommend.

We checked into Hotel Keilir last minute after a missed flight as it was affordable and close to the airport. Upon arrival, we realized we'd left a cell phone in our taxi, and the wonderful desk staff helped us track down the taxi company and recover the phone within a half hour. The rooms are fairly comfortable, and the location is pleasant - a quaint beach town with places to eat, drink and shop. The real highlight was the staff who helped turn a very stressful day around with warmth and efficiency!

I had an amazing stay at the Keilir Hotel. Lady at the main desk was very helpful from check-in to check_out and especially when I needed some documents print out. She even booked me a taxi for 5.30am for Sunday morning. (Taxi was 2500 krona.) Unfortunately, I did not catch her name, but she had light hair and big glasses on and always a smile on her face ready to chat with you. Room 305 was very spacious with two single beds pushed together making a double. The mattress and the pillows were super comfortable and I appreciated hard floors instead of carpets. The room had a big TV and a fridge. The only thing missing was a kettle. The bathroom was clean and the shower head had a good pressure and very warm water, which was needed after wandering all day around Reykjavík. Wifi connection was strong. There is a 24/7 supermarker next to the hotel called Iceland that has machine with delicious coffee for only 199 krona. I can not fault this hotel and I would definitely recommend and I will stay here again when visiting Iceland. Also the view from my room was amazing.

Whilst staff at the hotel are very polite and helpful this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. It is exceptionally basic and offers nothing near the quality of room that hotels in the city centre offer for the same money .
Important note - There is no lift here ! You will be taking your luggage up a few flights of stairs .
Walls are dirty , marked and scuffed . Peeling paint everywhere . Fridge was filthy , bin wasn’t emptied from the previous occupants . Bed was creaky and every time you moved it made noise . Pillows were old and stained . Radiator seemed to have one setting only - boiling hot . Bathroom had one tiny light in it above the sink . Sensor for the light was detached from the wall. No main light on the room - just two bed lamps . Damp on one corner of the wall too. No tea/coffee facilities on the room either The windows were dirty inside and out
The free transfer service can only take 4 people at a time ( provided you don’t have lots of luggage ) as it’s the owner using his private vehicle to take you to the airport . If someone has a lot of luggage you’ll only get 2 people in the car . It’s nice they do this for you but there is the potential for long waits or no availability fo service
I would never stay here again and would recommend people seek other accommodation.

I travel to Iceland each year to lead tourist groups around the island for a major travel organization. I am a geology professor from Oregon. I have been to Iceland leading trips 6 times and have stayed in over 10 hotels in the country. My favorite hotel is Hotel Keilir in Keflavik which is 5 minutes from the airport. You never hear airplanes though. I also love Keflavik - such a cute little fishing village with my favorite restaurant in the country, Duus Restaurant.
The hotel is a family run hotel with great views of the bay in half of the rooms. It covers all of the basics well. Rooms are very modern and very clean with all of the amenities. There is free internet which is important for a professor. Free breakfasts are very filling with lots of breads, cheeses, yogurt, skir, fruits, juices and coffee and tea. There is free shuttle from the airport (which by taxi is $50!) if they know ahead of time at the hotel. The hotel is right in the middle of the town on the main road.
The main incredible thing about the hotel is your host, Bryndis Thorsteinsdottir, who is so friendly and very knowledgable. She found me a terrific guide to take me to the volcanic eruption this week. She knows the town well and can help you with anything. She speaks many languages and is well travelled around the world so knows how to reach out to all visitors.
The staff is small but wonderful. When I come back again, I will stay here. My wife also loves it here. I travel all over the world so have visited many, many hotels, and I love this one.

Stayed here for one night due to its proximity to airport. The room was very basic with no tea or coffee making facilities and the mini bar was empty (even though they promote themselves as all rooms being well equipped) Breakfast was not included but maybe that’s because I booked through Expedia. I had to book a taxi back to Airport and no mention of an airport shuttle. I did at least get a room with a sea view. Five minutes after I checked in I received an email from Expedia asking me if I had cancelled my booking. Presumably they did not want to pay Expedia a fee. Next time I think I’ll stick to the Marriott.

Great hotel and very friendly staff. We had a nice conversation during check-in with Bryndis, and felt welcome. She offered us a first floor room, taking into consideration our heavy luggage. We were offered something to drink while the room was made ready. The room was bright, clean, and quiet. The ocean view from our room was spectacular. Is in a good location, close to restaurants, shops, and museums. It is convenient to Keflavik Airport and the Blue Lagoon. We received an email from Hotel Keilir thanking us for staying with them, which was a nice touch. One recommendation would be to have a Lancaster Table or two in the rooms to put luggage on. Would recommend Hotel Keilir to anyone, and would stay again. P.S. Thanks for sending our post cards!

We had book the hotel for two stopovers in Reykjavik. At the first arrival we had to call the hotel for the airport shuttle. After 4 unsucsessfull calls we tool a taxi. The Lady at the reception (named Lisa) was extremely unfriendly, but after we had a short phone conversation she offered a discount price. She asked us to cancel the reservations (made via booking.com) in order to get the discount price. We did so, but paid exactly the same price as via booking.com.
4 days later we had the second stopover in Keflavik, but it turned out that Lisa had not restored the second booking and the hotel had no free rooms left. After complaining she answered: „I don‘t know what are you talking about.“
Thanks to Jon - another employee of the hotel - we could book the last free room in Keflavik for the double price. He even offered us a free lift to that hotel.
In nearly 50 years of travelling we never had such a bad experience with an employee of a hotel like with Lisa.

I was booked into this hotel for 1 night by my company as I had an 8 hour layover in Reykjavik.
My flight was late arriving that night and then my transfer (not connected with the hotel) was not at the airport and the queue for taxis was 2 hours so had to walk to the hotel so didn't arrive until 2am.
I was let in by a lovely younger guy who couldn't do enough for me but then we found the room had been cancelled due to an issue with the credit card my company had used but I had not been notified.
As I only had 4 hours until my transfer from the hotel to the domestic airport I asked if it would be OK to stay in the hotel lobby which he said yes to and even offered me coffee etc and let me use the hotel WiFi and charge my phone.
However, the reason for the 2 stars is the owners of the or should I say the female owner especially. When they came out of their room in the morning it was clear she had ZERO customer service. She was rude and abrupt with most guests. Filthy looks were given.
It was almost time for my transfer when she asked where I was going. When I told her the domestic airport she said 'so what are you still doing here???' In a very rude and aggressive tone. I explained I was waiting for my transfer and she just gave me a dirty look and walked away. I know for a fact that if it had been her on reception when I arrived, she would have made me stand outside on the street for 4 hours in the middle of the night with my suitcase because she clearly does not like people or have any form of compassion whatsoever.

One booking website said that they had an airport shuttle. When we asked the hotel directly, they said they would not pick up us, but would drop us off. So we walked. We ended up walking back to the airport in the morning because we had to be there before the shuttle service began at 5.
