Detailed Reviews
We booked a twin bed room and the nice lady at front desk upgraded us to a bigger room because we have a young child. The room is clean and a good size (for Iceland standard). There is a common kitchen, we were able to store some food in the fridge and wash our bottles there. Breakfast is in a big dining room with many food options.
It's a great location if you want to see the Fagradalsfjall volcano, only a 20-minite drive. We were lucky to see the eruption during our stay but got our clothes soaked inside out from sweat when climbing the mountains. Fortunately, the hotel offers laundry service for a very reasonable price! The nice lady had our dried clothes ready before we got up early in the morning. A big plus, as later we found out that not many hotels in Iceland offer this service or offers it at a much higher price.
Overall, a very good experience. It was our first stop in Iceland and got off to a great start!

We ended up at Start Hostel after our flight home from Iceland was cancelled - understandably we were quite frustrated and tired when we arrived and were not sure what to expect, as the airline put us here while we waited for a new flight.
The staff at Start Hostel were all very friendly, helpful and patient with a bus full of disgruntled passengers! Our room was spacious and clean. We ended up staying for a total of three nights before our home flight and we were very comfortable.
We did need to walk 10-15 minutes to the nearest restaurant for dinner, which was a bit of a pain in a storm, as the hostel only has facilities for breakfast. We were told that there was a communal kitchen that we could use if we wanted, which is good if you're on a budget. It's quite far from Keflavik and difficult to get anywhere without a car or in a taxi, but there were several car rental places close by that we took advantage of.
Overall a pleasant stay, really grateful to the staff for taking such good care of us!

We had our flight home cancelled and were put here for 3 days. We were apprehensive about staying in a hostel and not expecting to be happy with it.
We were part of a large group being dropped off here and the lady at reception just smiled at us all and checked us in one by one.
Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. There was a bath in the bathroom which pleases me.
The beds were a little soft and we prefer a hard mattress but that’s not the end of the world.
The room was quite chilly when we first arrived but after adjusting the radiator it was toasty warm.
The breakfast was basic but plentiful and we both ate well.
The lady at reception helped us with directions and suggestions for places to visit. We hired a car as the hostel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
We were pleasantly surprised with the hostel and would recommend anyone needing to stay close to the airport to give it a go.

I had to be at the airport for 7am so I stayed here on my way back from Reykjavik and it was fantastic. The rooms had everything you needed: fresh linen and towel, hairdryer in the bathroom etc. The rooms are spacious and there aren't too many beds in them which i liked (i stayed in a 3 bed)
The reception were also super lovely. They offered to phone taxis from the hostel to the aiport too (costs around 4000 ISK).
It's great that breakfast is included and there is such a great variety. There's breads, fruits and veggies, eggs, cakes and cereals. Lots of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juice etc.
There is also a nice kitchen and recreation room.
The only thing I'd say to watch out for is the hot water in the bathrooms. I turned on a tap to about halfway round, expecting it to be warm water, but it was literally boiling and so I had to run it under cold water for 10 minutes until it felt better.
There's also of course nothing to really do if you don't have a car, but like I said it's a great place to stay if you're just looking for a night between the airport and Reykjavik.
Would highly recommend!

This is a hostel type accommodation, which also provides private room with ensuite bathrooms. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We appreciate how close this was to the airport and car rental drop off, particularly because we had a very early flight. We would definitely stay again!

Stayed at Start Hostel for one night, my first night in Iceland. I received great advice from the landlady. There is plenty of space. A bus stop about 5-10 minutes walk away. It is near the airport, however the taxi drive cost me 4000 ISK/ 30 USD. The breakfast lounge is probably the best I have experienced at any hostel. I would have preferred organic food, but you don't have expectations of that as a low-budget traveler, and organic food is not so easy to find in the places I have visited in Iceland. This hostel has vegan & vegetarian alternatives.

+1
This is a great stay especially if you're in for a late arrival or arrived after a long flight or an early departure. My flight arrived at 6:55 pm, and I was there by 8 pm. Once you get your rental car, the place is only 9 km away, which you can easily get to. The woman at the reception was very kind. Its got a good kitchen and neat rooms and WCs. The day I was there, the breakfast was from 4 to 9 am, which I believe is for people who are up to catch their early flights. For me personally, Start Hostel was the perfect stay to start my vacation in Iceland.

Excellent family experience at Start Hostel.
We arrived late (1am) and enjoyed the warm and friendly welcome.
The night was pleasant in comfortable beds and a spacious room (two rooms with a bathroom in the middle, reserved for these two rooms).
We don't care about such a degree of cleanliness. Well done !
Breakfast was complete and someone took care of restocking and washing dishes as they went.
From memory, breakfast starts at 4 a.m.
There is self-service tea and coffee all day.

This is basic hostel and probably not for business travel. However, if you are on vacation, this hotel has everything you will need for your trip. The room that we stayed was clean, spacious, and has all what you need. The hotel itself also has a common kitchen. dinning room, a break room, as well as they start serving complementary breakfast at 4 AM. The staff was friendly, free parking, and located about 10 mins from KEF but about 45 mins from Reykjavik.
If you are looking for a place to stay close to the airport - highly recommended!

Average hostel near the Keflavik airport. Good for an overnight stay on the trip around Iceland. Big basic room, average breakfast, quiet area, helpful staff. 24/7 reception is great in case of late arrival (taxi was expensive though, 37€ for approx. 4-5 km)

There is no extra cost for bedding.
I just stayed in this hostel. They can arrange taxi for you, Taxi fare was under ISK 3,000 and it was about a 10min ride to the airport. Breakfast start at 3:30am. You have plenty of time to eat before going to the airport.
the is a shuttle service that I took it's called shuttle iceland (shuttle.is/) you can buy it online or pay to the driver and it is ISK 2,490 per person. they pick you up at the hostal and it's about 15 minutes to the airport. The breakfast starts at 4:30 but the people at the hostal are very nice so if you need to leave earlier than 4, you can ask them the day before and they might serve you earlier.
Hostel is open 24 hrs. Check in is anytime after 14:00. They are very accommodating. Excellent choice. When you book, simply advise the time your flight arrives so they can be prepared for your late checkin.
Hola. Nosotros alquilamos coche en el aeropuerto para todo el viaje. Así que fuimos en coche
