First, the positives: great location, nice design, friendly staff. However, I was disappointed in my stay because for my entire first day the wifi in the room *barely* worked, and the nature of the hotel with thick concrete walls means mobile phone reception is almost nonexistent. Frustratingly, the staff would only consider moving me to another room *in the category I had booked*, they wouldn't contemplate an upgrade. (I'm a Bonvoy Platinum too for what it's worth). There were no rooms in the same category that day so I spent an entire day trying desperately to work online with wifi cutting out and all my videos crashing every 90 seconds. It just isn't acceptable in a modern hotel, and if/when this happens (e.g. no hot water, no wifi) I believe staff should ignore room category restrictions and move guests to a room that works.

Property's Favourite Review
My husband and I just returned from our European vacation with a stop in Copenhagen on the way home and absolutely loved Copenhagen and staying at The Socialist Hotel! First the hotel is located in the heart of everything and makes it easy to walk around and see everything. Next the hotel is fairly new and they used the best of everything which makes your stay a luxury one. The rooms are small but that is standard in many hotels in Europe but the quality of the amenities more than make up for the small room. The bed was so comfortable and the bedding soft and the toiletries were amazing....I wanted to buy the soap and lotion! The breakfast was lovely and cozy in their dining space. Also I want to give a big shout out to all the incredible staff who gave such stellar service! From the 1st welcome to checkin and especially our last night we got back to the hotel late from sightseeing and needed dinner which the kitchen had just closed but the front desk manager, I believe his name was Nik (he had just had a new baby) arranged to have the kitchen prepare us burgers and we really enjoyed sitting in the lounge area on the couches enjoying a wonderful meal and wine our last night....they went above and beyond to give us such an amazing last memory of this most special hotel! The early morning employee too was so great making sure we had a taxi waiting to get us to the airport. We truly appreciated how happy the staff was and their desire to serve and make our stay perfect. Thank you all so very much for all your incredible service and care and giving us such a memorable stay we will treasure always!

We had a wonderful 3-night stay at The Socialist. The room was very comfortable, and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a delicious breakfast in the lobby each morning before setting out on foot for the day. The best shopping in Copenhagen is right around the corner, and all the major sites are within walking distance. Really glad we chose to stay here!

This property is really beautifully done from a design perspective and the location is great, but the price you pay for a tiny tiny room is really outrageous. I was shocked at how tiny our room was - if you book the base room it is too small for two people to comfortably be in the space. Service is also really a disappointment. Breakfast was comedically bad - the waiter forgot our order after we waited 30 minutes and finally had to ask what was going on, he had to start everything all over. We thought maybe it was just that one waiter but on the weekend we had a different waitress and the service was also terribly slow. The staff offered to upgrade us to a "Junior Suite" for our last night because of my elite status, but then when the last night came, they didn't have a Junior Suite anymore and instead offered us a Deluxe room, which was just a bigger version of the room we already had, and it smelled like a dog, so we declined. Surprisingly, they did have a Suite available but refused to offer it to me, even though elites should be eligible to upgrade to suites. Overall, don't bother - there's lots of really beautiful hotels in Copenhagen and this one is not worth your money.

Such a disappointment! Booked a deluxe double room which was hands on the smallest hotel room I’ve ever been in. Plasticless, paperless and phoneless hotel. Good luck of figuring that nfc or whatever that is out to call the front desk specifically if you want adjust your AC. Had a crisp 17 degrees in the room and after complain they just simply shut it down, increasing the room temperature to 26 degrees. Ps: cocktail bar is awesome. One of the best whiskey sours I’ve ever had. Nevertheless, stick to classic 5 stars and not these weird experimental ones

NOT a Luxury Hotel, hardly a luxury hostel. Lacquer quickly cracks at this establishment. At first glance you think you have entered a super nice boutique hotel and everything is just perfect…but after just a few hours the first impressions fade quickly and reality sets in. The rooms are very small and noisy, you will constantly hear elevators loudly creaking, other guests talking and old A/C rattling, but worst of all is the thumping base of the DJ/night club they run in the lobby on the ground floor (we were on the 4th floor and it was impossible to sleep or even watch a movie due to it). We even went down and had a talk to the owner of the hotel, who just shrugged it off and claimed we shouldn’t be able to hear it on the 4th floor. Dare I say the music got even louder after that. Your room will have no phone, no fridge and no drinking water unless you go get it yourself in the lobby. Your pillows will be lumpy synthetic IKEA pillows that will leave you with a crick in your neck. The food in the restaurant is great, but the service is subpar, it feels like your presence is an inconvenience and it’s really no wonder the staff has that attitude when even the owner doesn’t care to make your stay pleasant. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel, there are many much better hotels in this price range to choose from in Copenhagen.

When people ask me what hotel has a great location I might just say this one and when they ask which hotel is least physically enticing, this one pops up too. The positives: great staff, kind and friendly. Great food, amazing service. Great location, in truly the heart of the city. Good bathroom, large shower for two. The negatives; no real simple amenities, like free water bottles in the room, or a gym, which is perfect to unwind after a long day. Dark spaces, since they painted everything black and it looks dirty when it isn’t. Tiny rooms, with barely inches between the side of the bed and the wall and no place to sit. The TV has so few channels it’s useless. The room was noisy at around 8 am, with what seemed to be a cart squeaking around and rolling on the floor. The hotel could use a better front desk area, with a dedicated reception not a computer on a desk that anyone can see. It has a nice patio that needs better cozy lights ambience and the hotel wall colors could be brighter( unless of course all socialism has to offer is darkness, then leave the color black all over) I think the room size is unfortunately not fixable, but tv channel options are. Subscribe to get free movies in the room. It won’t cost that much and have free water so an attendant doesn’t have to bring it. Have a welcome bag with a map of the city and perhaps a small gift inside, like .danish chocolate and the bottles of water. The hotel is expensive and with so many other city options, the small hotels need something to generate traffic. Perhaps, since size may not accommodate a gym, partner with one nearby where guests can go? Finally, I would like to see this hotel thrive. If they play their cards right, they could be fantastic, the people are such a delight there, from the bartender to the waitress and the receptionist. All were so friendly and kind. It would be a shame if the best aspect of the Socialist, it’s workers, suffered due to things that can easily be fixed.

We just spent five nights at the Socialist hotel and we’re overall very happy with our experience. They were kind enough to upgrade me to a one bedroom suite based on my titanium elite status with Marriott. Overall the hotel has a great vibe and staff was amazing. Breakfast, which was included free of charged based on my titanium elite status, was outstanding. We had a couple of issues which prevented me from giving this hotel five stars but are easily avoidable and fixable. The safe in our room did not work for the first two days but was eventually fixed. Our bose surround sound did not work and unfortunately was not fixed during our stay. I would respectfully disagree with the person who wrote the previous review. Yes there is a DJ on the weekends but I do not find that the music was too loud or went too late. We did not hear anything from our room. While she is correct that there is no phone in the room, it is incredibly easy to contact the front desk whenever by text on wtsapp (there is a direct link QR code in the room) And staff was usually responding within a few minutes and anything we asked for was delivered to our room within 5 to 10 minutes. The location is outstanding and you can walk to most attractions in under 15 to 20 minutes. Many attractions are within 5 to 10 minutes walk. There is a grocery store just up the street to pick up supplies and there are many restaurants in the area. You’re a five-minute walk to nyhavn. Loved all of the staff. Everyone was courteous and respectful and was always asking how things were going and if they could do anything to make our stay more enjoyable. Overall this was an outstanding hotel but the few small issues we had could have made it 4 1/2 to 5 stars. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The hotel has a regular weekend DJ who plays until after midnight on weekends. We had no idea this was the case or would have stayed elsewhere. We requested a quiet room upon making the reservation, and instead got a room that is so close to the DJ that the walls are shaking from the noise as I type this. Truly nightmarish. There are no phones in the rooms, so to complain you have to actually go downstairs??? Don't stay here if you want a good night's sleep.

I was going to give this hotel a bad review because it is boutique hotel and I have finally decided these boutique hotels are not for me. I could call them pretentious but maybe I am just too old for the hipster style atmosphere that they are trying to get to. Good luck to them. But what really stopped me giving the hotel a bad review was the staff. Every issue I had (and there were many) they met with a professionalism that I would like to see at every hotel but rarely get. Every staff member I talked to (and they all seemed to be from Argentina) really cared about my issues and took action to deal with them immediately. I won't stay here again but, Marriott, these staff members are great and could teach many of your other staff a thing or two.
