Monchique Resort & Spa is often praised for its excellent service, with staff members providing a friendly and attentive experience. Guests enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and spacious rooms set against a backdrop of majestic mountains, though some feel the additional charges for spa access and room service detract from the hotel's overall value.
While the cleanliness and amenities generally earn rave reviews, there are suggestions for improvements in maintenance and updates in decor. The hotel's secluded location offers both a peaceful retreat and a challenge for those wishing to explore local shops.

Detailed Reviews
From the moment we arrived at Monchique Resort Spa & Hotel we were very impressed with the location up in the mountains. As our car arrived we were greeted by Paulo who was very warm welcoming. When we stepped into the hotel we were blown away with the modern & clean interior. It was apparent that even through this really difficult time they were doing all they can to ensure that all customers felt safe. The staff were wearing facial masks & you could see hand sanitizers located in strategic points, The suite was generous size , spacious with a kitchen & two bathrooms. The restaurant was beautifully decorated & the patio had great views of the mountains. The food was prepared well & will definitely return when things get back to normal. As I write this review on my last day l will never forget this experience. The staff were all helpful, friendly & would do absolutely everything within their powers to ensure that any request could be met. I would genuinely recommend Monchique Resort & Spa Hotel for that break to get away from the stresses of city life. I would have to rate this whole experience as Excellent.

We are just returned from a long weekend at this hotel and it was pure bliss! The hotel is so clean, the staff so friendly, especially Paulo at reception and the restaurant staff. We had treatments in the spa which were top quality and really enjoyed the spa circuit too. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel, salads highly recommended and my friend really enjoyed the steak. I had fish which was OK.
We did yoga and walking with Gustavo which were excellent -each activity lasted longer than the time allocated, so bear this in mind if planning your day! IT wasn't a big issue for us.
We were pleasantly surprised with the large rooms - separate living room/kitchen and two bathrooms! I would recommend getting a panoramic terrace as there would be more breeze on the terrace than the smallish balconies. On a hot day the rooms facing the sun can get hot and the A/C is not particularly effective. It didn't impact our stay, but worth bearing in mind.
We were very appreciative of the early checkin and late checkout time of 8pm (special consideration due to Covid), we felt we got maximum value out of our stay.

We stayed at Monchique Resort and Spa for a week in May 2019 in a panoramic room, I will start by saying the room was amazing, a huge suite with separate lounge (turned sofa bed for our 3 year old) full kitchen facilities, massive balcony with sun loungers, 2 bathrooms and a separate bedroom. Really modern, beautiful facilities. Hugely impressed. The nearest supermarket is just 10 minutes away in Monchique. The views from our room were incredible, we were blown away by the scenery and the weather was amazing, we enjoyed long lazy days sunbathing on our balcony in the afternoon sun whilst our son napped inside. The hotel is really large and does feel a little impersonal, its also very easy to get lost in (as we found many times!) it has 2 pools, a heated family pool (we literally never saw another person the whole time we were at this pool) its located under some large glass (like a big dome) you can pull the doors back but they are stiff and on our first visit there was a frog in the pool (shows how many people were using it) there is also another pool which was unfortunately freezing cold, this was used much more and had a bar next to it but for us with a toddler it was way too cold (no one was actually in it, just sunbathing around it).
There is a playground near the family pool and there is a kids club but by appointment only (we never saw it open) and it was just in a conference room, not very enticing for children. There is a pizza restaurant onsite, it wasn't open every day but we did manage to go and the food and wine was superb. The breakfast offering was amazing, fresh fruits, eggs, pastries and even free Prosecco, loved loved loved the breakfasts! Lunch and dinner was a simple offering but incredible service and food on a lovely outside decked area over the pool. We parked for free in the hotel carpark and enjoyed visiting nearby beaches and towns. The hotel offered an inclusive exercise program with yoga and walks, we didn't actually do any of them as we had our 3 year old but said when we return we would like to partake. We have actually booked our return visit for this year however Covid 19 put a stop to those plans, but we will return in the next year and can't wait. it was super relaxing and incredible value for money.

We are travelling through Portugal starting in Porto, however we have got stuck here and keep adding extra days.
It’s a very modern hotel with superb level of service from the young team. We spent a little extra and took a suite which has huge bed two bathrooms and large lounge with a kitchenette. Also large balcony with a couple of sun loungers and table and chairs. There are lots of classes to take we did a local walk in the morning and a well being class in the afternoon.
Also used the spa euro 25 extra which was nice for a bit but we have one down the road at home.
The hotel is about 35 mins from the coast by car so not far really for the quality of the room it’s no sacrifice.
The restaurant is also excellent and not too expensive I thought it would be more it’s e10 for a starter and Mains e22
We booked for 2 nights extended to 3 looks like 4 tomorrow
We will be back assuming we ever leave

We particularly appreciated the kindness of the staff as well as the comfort and soundproofing of the rooms. We also appreciated the outdoor swimming pool.
The breakfast is complete but it can be improved with more quality products: less industriel, more natural and regional.. It can be due to the covid 19 situation as it is safer to have products packaged individually, we will have to come back another year to check this :-)

Second time staying at this hotel. And first time staying at a hotel with the new rules because of the pandemic. Everything was great! I loved the new style of the breakfast, and I felt pretty safe (we have plates, fork, knife and spoons at the table, and we use our own utensils to get our food). I still miss the dinner at Mon-chic restaurant, but I understand why they serve only lunch now. Room was great as usual, though I think that the pillows are huge (gave me pain neck). The service was great too, and they took out the temperature. My only complain is the elevators, the push buttons don't always work and we had to take the stairs several times a day.

I have visited this hotel on two previous occasions and everything was excellent - which is why I returned. However, this time there were many issues with the restaurant facilities which was really disappointing. Theses were two fold. Firstly that the restaurant itself was not open due to ‘staff shortages’, and the only option to me was the buffet. This especially was disappointing as the food for the evening meal was of very low quality and also had to be eaten in the same location as the breakfast. This felt very much like a canteen with absolutely no atmosphere and not pleasant at all. They could have at least enabled people to eat at the restaurant tables, which would have been a little better. I hope this is temporary, but I would not return if the only option to me was the buffet. In every other way the hotel is excellent with fabulous rooms, excellent spa facilities, great pool area and pool bar, and very efficient, helpful and friendly staff. It’s a shame the food and restaurant facilities badly let it down this time.

We spent two nights at Monchique hotel. On arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in and carried our luggage to the room, where we were given some tips about the hotel, as well as the whatsapp number which was very useful for getting quick answers.
The rooms are very spacious and well equipped, with the bedroom + a large bed and ensuite, a large lounge with a kitchen, a second bathroom and a small balcony. There was also a nice welcome pack. We were lucky enough to enjoy panoramic views from the large windows. We highlighted an issue with the bathroom window, as it faced onto a public area and had no blinds. The maintenance staff were quick to respond, adding a frosted film to the window the next morning. It was very windy during our stay, so the doors were banging slightly which woke us up, but I was able to wedge a piece of paper in the door to stop the noise.
The hotel had a lot of activities (for adults & children), but it's probably worth booking some of these before your stay to ensure there are spaces available. We were contacted to let us know a space had become available on the walking trip, but while we couldn't make it in the end, we really appreciated the offer (another example of how attentive the staff were)!
The breakfast was very good, with lots of variety and all very tasty. We were able to get a table outside both days, offering spectacular views.
We will definitely be back again!

Looking for an escape from our daily routine, we came across with Monchique Resort & SPA. And the choice was flawless. Spot On! Upon arrival we were surprised and absorbed by the tranquility, bird singing, clear tones, smells, and well treated gardens. Check in was efficient and courteous, with personalized guidance who made us feel entirely welcomed, recommending also amazing places to visit.
The suite is simply outstanding. Definitely surprising! Very well maintained and presented, decorated with refinement, quality and comfort in all areas. If there are statements like “A Hotel should be as good as or better than our home", this is a perfect example. But what really exceeded our expectations was the amazing surroundings and its nature. Simply stunning which hardly leaves us out of the balcony. Automatically make us feel calm, relaxed and overwhelmed.
An authentic postcard! The valley is just beatiful!
Without fuss or overcrowded even in high season, it makes us feel that we are not in the Algarve.
No doubt an excellent choice either for families once the food (presentation and flavour) and service were extremelly good and local..
An idyllic place where we cannot wait to return. We became fans!
Thank you and Congratulations

The contemporary design of this hotel makes it a very pleasant and spacious place to stay in a beautiful environment. The staff are friendly and helpful, particularly at the spa. The bedroom decor lacks inspiration however, while the pillows have synthetic filling which I hate and which clashes with the eco-responsible claims of this hotel. The same can be said for the breakfast which felt very industrial and loaded with sugar. The eggs served are category 3 which is the worst kind both in terms of nutritional value and respect for the quality of life for the poor hens producing them. The main restaurant to eat for dinner is vastly overpriced, while the overall atmosphere is distinctly bland and insipid. Perhaps as a result of the hotel changing owners so many times, it has not yet been able to establish a clear cut identity and set of values. Huge potential is there.under the right guidance.

Monchique town is not far but you need a car the hotel is set in its own grounds on the side of a large hill. There is a very good restaurant on site
I don't know about the organised activities but there are lots of hiking possibilities around you can do on your own. Walk to the Monchique village and taste the amazing chicken in the local restaurant by the main road
