Came across this hotel thru Booking.com. What a great find! Check in really easy and they held our bags as we were quite early.. allowing us to tour Rotterdam. The hotel is right on a bus line and a few steps to trams. Easy 10 minute bus ride to city centre.
Room was very clean and very comfortable. Continental breakfast was great. Good food to get you out on your morning. A lounge to enjoy an evening nightcap.
Would highly recommend this hotel

We had a 5 night stay in this attractive older hotel, which provides parking for €20 per day [€40-45 on the street!] but it’s easy transport connections and central location meant we parked up and used public transport, including speedy water taxi, and walked to visit a wide range of interesting galleries, museums and architecture.
We visited Den Haag and Delft also using public transport.
All the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, the room was beautifully light and large, the breakfast of five star quality and variety. It was a real pleasure to visit here.

We enjoyed our stay here. It has charm and character. There is also parking - paid at the back of the property which is cheaper than on road parking. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you needed.
There is a lift in the hotel but unfortunately it was not working when we were there. They had sent us an email before our check in, explaining the situation and offered us to cancel free of charge if we didn't want to climb the stairs. We decided to stay and the stairs were steep but the front of office staff did assist us with our bags. The stairs are steep but that seems to be the norm with the older places in The Netherlands. We didn't mind so much. The hotel is located a block away from a street that has many cafes, bars and restaurants.

Hotel is in a good location for transport links, close to the metro and tram stops although we chose to walk most places as the weather was good.
20 minute walk from the main train station.

The hotel was clean, tv, fridge, hairdryer. Our room was at the front of the hotel and was very noisy with traffic and people walking home but it was a weekend. The room was very warm and the windows only opened a small amount and no extractor fan in the bathroom added to the heat. Dispute that, our room was large, with high ceilings and very light. Shower was good but as previously mentioned, not extractor fan made the bathroom very steamed up.

We didn’t make use of the bar or restaurant as we had plans elsewhere.
Hotel staff were friendly and check in and out was easy.

Surrounded by bars and restaurants just a short walk away, plenty of choice. 25 minute walk to the the Euromast and 20 min walk in the opposite direction the shopping centre.

I have stayed a couple of nights in this lovely family run hotel. The bedroom was clean with nature friendly toiletries. There was Illy coffee machine in the room and variety of tees. One had to pay extra for breakfast, but beside that fact the breakfast was quite nice with a variety of choices for all tastes. The wifi was good too. The staff was very polite and helpful.

We stayed at the Hotel Van Walsum for 2 nights and felt very comfortable there. The rooms are well equipped (e.g. with a capsule coffee machine), the breakfast is delicious and the staff is friendly and interested in making you feel comfortable.
The bus and train stops are right at the next intersection, and we managed well with a day ticket (9.50 euros).
We would go there again and again.

We just returned from Holland last night . Our trip included 3 nights at the Van Walsum. As far as hotels go, that was the high point of our trip. Hotel Van Walsum is a family owned hotel and they take good care of you. They speak many languages with ease. When we needed a taxi we had a taxi called for us in minutes. When we needed information it was forthcoming with a smile and a very good explanation. When we needed supper it was provided in actually the finest meals we have ever had anywhere in our travels in both Europe and North America . I was amazed at the quality of the evening meals. It is a very friendly atmosphere and you feel while you are there that you belong. We met a medical researcher from New York who told us he has becoming there to stay while doing research in Rotterdam for 23 years. I can certainly understand why after our three night stay. If big and flashy is your thing than maybe this isnt you place but if you like to KNOW you will be well taken care of and you can get help when you need it and you like the feeling of belonging then this is the place. For me and my wife , we would say without question that of the four trips to Holland we have taken we were cared for better here than anywhere else. I would broaden that to of all our trips we have taken we were cared for here better than anywhere else we have ever stayed and there have been many. (As my wife read this before I submitted it, her comment was. "That is certainly true. It would be hard to top our stay there!" )

I stayed at the hotel van Walsum in early February 2005 while traveling solo for work. The hotel desk staff and chef were helpful and very friendly. The room was like others I had stayed in western Europe: 2 twin beds, comfortable bedding, desk and TV, small bath and shower. There is a small dining room for breakfast (Dutch-style 'buffet' with coffee, tea, juices, cereals, bread, cheese, meats) and dinner (multi-course, delicious, I felt like I had a personal chef with something tasty to surprise me with every night: roast chicken, pork tenderloin, beefsteak, all with soup and salad and interesting local vegetables and a potato dish). The dining room closes at 20:00/8 pm. The cigarette smoke was sometimes overwhelming, but as a non-smoking Californian I know I have low tolerance and this is just a part of traveling in Europe!
I will go back to Rotterdam for work next month, and I will most likely stay at the Van Walsum again. I've stayed at the Tulip Inn near the Erasmusbrug and the Van Walsum rooms are virtually the same, it's on a much quieter street and it's just a smaller more pleasant hotel (and the Van Walsum has wireless internet available!). The only minor drawback for me is it's location, a bus ride, transfer, and tram ride to the hospital where I work at--about an hour commute. The hotel staff suggested taking the bus to Centraal instead of Tram 5, it takes about 20-30 minutes in the morning (lots of school kids on the bus, lots of stops) and evening. Since I was working during the day and didn't have anyone to go out with at night I didn't get out around the hotel, but the staff said it's an easy walk to the Museumplein and there were pleasant parks and walkways around the nearest canals.

Stopped here a couple of times but this my first review. Hotel was pretty decent. we were given a nice room with balcony looking out the front. Was brilliant because we could sit on the balcony and have a cigarette if we wanted. I also thought we had free parking booking through trip advisor but the voucher had actually ran out. The really nice guy who was working let us still have the parking for free which was very helpful and really kind of him as we were on a budget. We were there for the carnival and then off to party at Tomorrowland so it was really busy and couldn't park anywhere. The breakfast was brilliant also. All in all it was a great stay. Oh yeah the wifi wasn't that bad either which worked fine in my room.
