Detailed Reviews
Hotel the James is smack in the middle of Rotterdam. Just meters away from de Bijenkorf department store and de Lijnbaan (most importent shopping street of Rotterdam).
The hotel has a nice feel to it. Rooms are a bit small. Even though we got a free upgrade. But the bed is fine, airco works, shower is great and they have a 24hour service were you can pick up a couple of bottles of beer for decent prices.
We had a nice stay and will probably choose the James the next time we need to spend the night in Rottedam.

Hi all,
I got really drunk from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. What a fantastic 3 days. They have extremely well priced wine on the second floor which I ensured they kept topped up to suit my degenerate needs. A staff member was always on hand to ensure I was sufficiently off my nut,
Bed was perfectly comfortable when I couldn’t stand anymore, and kept me going until 11am the next morning when I felt it was socially acceptable to pick up where I left off. Great hotel.

The James hotel is centrally located and has a private parking lot at its disposal for €25/day. The hotel has a very cool and clean vibe. The standard room is big enough, bed is comfy and bathroom everything what you need, incl nice shampoo/shower gel. The staff is friendly and always ready to help out or answer your questions.

This hotel is in a good location, and the room was quite adequate, though nothing out of the ordinary. My room didn't have one of the spectacular views mentioned in the other reviews, and the staff were unwilling to make a room change despite my request.
The fridge didn't work, but staff were at my door with a replacement within a couple of hours. The television's operation was a bit odd, as one needed to tune in the signal through the TV's operating system and find the right menu. Fortunately, I have an LG TV at home, so I was able to navigate the menus with minimal difficulty.
The photos on the website are a bit misleading, as there is no lobby to speak of (just a small, dimly lit space in front of the elevators where a couple of high chaired tables were set up). But, instead, there is a nice large seating area on the second floor which is only accessible by guests. This was a nice quiet place to relax or get some work done, once you find it. Various food items were available for purchase in this area as well.
I might have given 5 stars, but after a 4-night stay, and a bill of nearly $1000, they charged me a 10 euro "late checkout fee" because I checked out at 11:30 AM. The cleaning crew was just arriving on my floor as I walked out, so my 30-minute delay did not prevent them from preparing the room in plenty of time for the next guest at 3 PM. I've never been charged in this way by a hotel, especially after a 4-night stay.

Dear StevenwZ2819, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We appreciate your positive comments on our location, room adequacy, and the prompt replacement of the fridge. We regret to hear that your room did not offer the spectacular views mentioned in other reviews, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the staff's inability to accommodate your room change request. However, we want you to know that we always try to fulfill your requests. If our hotel is fully booked we simply can not provide you with a room upgrade. Regarding the late checkout fee, we'd like to clarify that our standard check-out time is at 11 AM. Late checkouts are subject to availability and can be arranged for a nominal fee. We apologize if there was any misunderstanding, and we appreciate your understanding of the operational needs to prepare rooms for the next guests. We truly value your feedback, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an improved experience in the future. Warm greetings, Chelsea - The James Family

Have stayed there several times. This relatively new hotel is situated in the center of Rotterdam. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated however not all rooms have proper desks to work from. Mixed feelings about staff. Generally nice and helpful however there are a few rude and ignorant ones among them. The fact that they call you at 10.50 AM urging you to check-out before 11 AM and that otherwise 10 Euros per half hour will be charged to your room is not only cheap but also preposterous. All in all if the price is right I would stay again.

Dear Wanderluztig, Thank you for sharing your feedback with our Tripadvisor users. We are happy to receive such compliments about our neat rooms and our decoration. As we have different categories, not every room has enough space to fit a desk, as the building has different corners. We find it however understable if our guests wish to have a desk in their room. If requested, we would have been able to switch you to another room, if there had been availability of course. The official check-out time is 11 am, we normally call our guest around 11:15 to remind them of our official check-out time. afterwards we are obliged to add costs to the booking, if the guest wishes to stay longer in the room. However it does saddens us to hear to you find some of the staff rude and ignorant. I wish you well! Warm greetings, The James Family Dalila Supervisor

What makes this hotel unique, is that even the smallest room, looks bigger than other hotel rooms you might find in Rotterdam. The showers are made for two. You won’t bump into anything. The design of the room gives a warm vibe, where you can have fun or work a few hours. you’ll be amazed by the views. Especially at night. When you come by car. In front of the building there is a black garage door, you drive your car in and they park the car downstairs. Before my departure I call the reception 5 min earlier and they have my car ready and I can leave. They arrange everything perfectly.

Dear Miumiauh, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and other Tripadvisor users. It is lovely to read all the positive comments in your review. We are happy that our rooms have met your expectations regarding the size and design; one of our aims is to give our guests a warm feeling in the room and to read that we have reached that is just great! And I have to say... the view from our higher floors are indeed breathtaking, especially at night. For us to read that you found that we have arranged everything perfectly during your stay is a great compliment to receive! We hope to see you back in the future. Warm greetings, Ismay - Reservations

Couldn’t be happier with my stay at the hotel. I had 4 weeks booked here and the room is perfect, the staff couldn’t be any more helpful and friendly and the location is great (right in the city centre). There is a food market on the second floor that is slightly pricey but useful for getting snacks. The gym has a great selection of equipment and is fab! Would recommend this hotel to anyone, and will certainly be back!

We opted to stay in Rotterdam and catch the train to Schiphol from there instead of dealing with the crowds and high prices in Amsterdam. Couldn’t have been happier with that choice.
Even though it was a quick two night stay, we enjoyed our time at the James. The front desk was helpful and friendly, and our room was large, with plenty of floor space and a separate seating area. The 24 hour snack area on the second floor is nice too. We were able to pick up a chilled bottle of Prosecco for cheap, which we enjoyed with the Chinese food from the shop across the street.
The only con: I am never a fan of when a hotel charges a deposit to your card instead of just asking for it for incidentals. I had prepaid for the room online. Charging a 100 euro deposit seemed silly.

Our market in the second floor is also available 24/7 for drinks, snacks and of course, breakfast in the mornings. As stated in our terms and conditions, we ask for a security deposit. We will cancel this on the day you leave again! We hope that we can welcome you again in the future. Warm greetings, The James Family

Very nice hotel, cosy and well organised. I was here during the Christmas lockdown , everything in the town was closed. In the hotel I had a large room (they give me an upgrade) with a nice view, very silent and confortable. I appreciated the possibility to have coffee or tea in the room. Also breakfast in the lounge at the "food market" was really great: I could take what I liked and payed just for it. All the receptionists were all kind and helpful.
The hotel is in the middle of the shopping centre, but I couldn't take advantage of it because of the lockdown. Maybe net time!

I have been staying in this Hotel for three night and my general feedback is positive.
The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Noise is not a problem as rooms are well soundproofed. There is no such a Breakfast room but rather a kind of self service corner where you can pick up whatever you need and pay. definitely a great thing to be improved in terms of products offered.
The only low point is that they still ask for a deposit to be paid - it is a quite antique practice that no hotels (at least in Europe) does request anymore - on the other side they only accept cash or credit card (no debit cards) - that is very inconvenient as it will force people to withdrawn money in a possible different currency that they'll not be able to spend. I guess they can work on improve this side of the process
Other than that the hotel is very central close to all amenities and few mins walk from the mail station.

Dear you! Thank you for taking your time to write us a review, we appreciate it very much! Good to hear you like the room and the self service corner in the food market. We understand the struggle with regard to the deposit, we ask our guests a deposit of 100 euros because of the guarantee of furniture and everything that is in the room. We prefer to only accept cash or a credit card because our guests will get the money right back. If they want to pay with a debit card then the they will get the deposit back in two weeks, that's why we prefer to only accept cash or a credit card because on long term it's easier for our guests. Once again thank you for the feedback, we always want to grow as a hotel and your feedback help us a lot. We hope you enjoyed Rotterdam! Warm Greetings, The James Family - Soraya

Dear Herman L,
Thank you for your question!
We do not have a restaurant inside our hotel. Therefore it is allowed to order food from any take away restaurant/website .
Deliveries do not go all the way to your room. It is necesarry to pick your order up at the reception, by the delivery guy itself.
In our Food Market you can take any cutlery, glasses or plates if needed.
Hopefully this answers your question! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them.
Warm greetings,
Chelsea - front office
