Wonderful boutique hotel near the museums. We will come back on our next trip! The day/evening bar/snacks creates a community atmosphere in the hotel. That’s all we wanted to say - hope it’s enough TripAdvisor!

We’d stayed here before pre-Covid, and it lived up to our memory. Aside from the obvious benefits of a brilliant location, the staff are unfailingly friendly and professional. As a couple of people have noted, you need to take note of room size when booking. Our room was compact but comfortable and well-equipped. Let’s face it - when you’re in Amsterdam you want to be out and about, so we didn’t need a spacious room. There’s also a comfortable lounge by Reception, so if you want a relaxing sit down with a drink the option is there.

Response from Jan Luyken, Guest Services / Front Office at Jan Luyken Amsterdam

Dear Mr Kemp, Thank you for choosing our hotel for your stay in Amsterdam, and for taking the time to leave us a feedback. We greatly appreciate the five star review. Firstly, we would like to thank you for your kind words towards the staff. We go to great lengths to lend a hand to our guests whenever possible, and we deeply appreciate that our efforts are recognized. It it is wonderful you could take advantage of our location. Many guests choose to stay with us because of our proximity to some of the most well-know cultural attractions in the city. Nonetheless, the closeness to such an important tourist area does not affect how peaceful the neighborhood is. It is a pleasure to read you enjoyed the quiet aspect of this area as well. Once again, thank you for your kind words. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back at Jan Luyken Hotel. Kind regards, Maarten Benschop General Manager

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. We just had two nights, but it only took two minutes before the staff made us feel like family. The breakfast was delicious and they even hav an enjoyable snack everyday at 16:00. So close to the museums! I’ll be back every time I return to Amsterdam.

Beautiful hotel. Excellent location to visit museums nearby. Breakfast is sumptuous with lots of healthy choices like museli, yoghurt and many kinds of fruits. Staff also very helpful and friendly. The only problem is with housekeeping. Although it looked very clean in the room, the toilet was obviously not cleaned (and in fact looking quite gross) when we checked into the room. Luckily (I wonder why!) they did provide a toilet cleaning brush by the side. I remember seeing the same comment in another review before, so hopefully the hotel can make some serious improvement in this department in the future!

Two of us were in a Snug room for five nights. The staff, breakfast, and early evening snack are all wonderful. The self-serve kitchen offers a nice coffee machine & tea options. The common area/library is just as lovely as the pictures show. If you’re interested in the Museum District, the location is perfect. Many guests seemed to be staying only a night or two, and we could hear every single late arrival and early departure. The street noise is virtually nonexistent (it’s a very quiet area) but the room needed soundproofing or a noise machine. The room also desperately needed a deep cleaning.

A special gem in the heart of the Museum District We were in visiting our daughter who is at the University of Amsterdam for the semester. The location of the Jan Luyken is amazing, a mere steps from the Van Gogh Museum and the Rikjmuseum and high end shopping, with easy access to trains and trams. They also have bikes available gratis if you want to try your hand. (We are experienced riders but it’s a whole different level in Amsterdam). We arrived on an overnight flight and got here at 7:30am. Sophie at the front desk stored our bags, offered us breakfast, and told us they’d make every effort to allow us to to check in before the 3p time. After some exploring of the nearby park, where the birds were incredible, and the Van Gogh Museum (buy tix in advance !) -- we checked in to our room. It’s rare that the room is bigger than the picture - but room 102 is so terrific and charming with beautiful windows, a table and chairs, two sink bathroom and a VERY comfortable king size bed. The included breakfast is lovely - fresh Greek yogurt bar, gorgeous pastries and breads with a number of spreads (including avocado and cheeses), overnight oats, juices and a fab coffee machine. I genuinely appreciate their greenness - no plastic bottles, only glass and washable cups/plates/cutlery. I mention this because almost everywhere you go they charge for water that comes in plastic. Here they have filtered (bubbly and reg) in the sinks on the main level. And there was a happy hour snack of cheeses, meats, crackers in the late afternoon, with other treats throughout the day. Here’s the best part - there’s a fridge full of bottles of cold drinks, beer, wine and there’s liquor - self serve all day and night (maybe this is custom in Amsterdam but I was thrilled)! We took some evening drinks in the library where we met some colorful travelers and sweet dogs (there were a few dogs there during our stay). If I have any complaints, and this is so minor, it’s that there’s no drawers to unpack in, just some hanging space and a couple cubbies. For those with mobility issues, there are some stairs, even if you get a room on the elevator level, and the bathtub/shower is a very high step. This boutique hotel is a real find. And the staff, particularly Sophie and Dugmar were very attentive and friendly. Recommend very highly!

Very convenient location for the museums and window shopping. The hotel is excellent - from the self serve bar to the afternoon snacks to the nice little touches like the coffee in the rooms. It was very nice that the staff was so international - I only have English and it was no problem.

Great location & access to the trams to many parts of the city. We stayed in a small room 107 very well equipped, super comfy bed with a view of the garden. Only complaint would be the shower/tub ackward to use. Nice breakfast & cocktails, coffee tea available & nice common areas to relax.

So glad I stayed here for my one night in Amsterdam on this trip. The staff is welcoming and hekpful, the quiet rooms are delightfully appointed with very comfortable beds and pillows, water pressure in strong, the location is excellent (short, safe walk to great restaurants like The Seafood Bar), and it was just 20ish minutes to the airport. The breakfast spread was so tasty, with fresh breads and croissants, salmon, cheeses, fresh fruit and juices, and more. Can’t wait to return and stay for more days!
