This hotel was recommended to us, and booked through, a travel company. We were not disappointed! It is the fourth hotel we have stayed at in Interlaken over the years, and by far the best for us so far.
All the staff we had contact with were pleasant and very helpful. On arrival, we asked about our luggage, which had been sent in advance by courier. We were reassured it has arrived and was waiting for us in our room.
We had booked a deluxe room. This was a large corner room on the second floor, with three windows (room 202). Although there was no air conditioning, we kept the room acceptably cool by closing the blinds before going out each day. The beds were comfortable and we slept quite well considering the daytime temperatures were in the high 20s. There were plenty of electrical sockets, including two USB points (all sockets the new recessed 3 pin variety). There was a large counter with tea and coffee making facilities, with supplies topped up each day. There was a curved screen TV with a remote that took a bit of getting used to - fortunately a little knowledge of German helped, but we we would suggest an English version of the instruction card would be useful. The large bathroom had two basins, a bathtub and separate shower, WC and bidet. Towelling robes and slippers were provided.
Although the hotel does not have a restaurant, there is a wide choice of restaurants nearby. There is a large breakfast area with a good choice of cold food, and also some hot dishes. All food and drink was frequently replenished so everything was available.
The location is convenient for the main railway station at Interlaken Ost, which is less than 10 minutes' walk away. From there, there are trains to all parts of Switzerland, including the Jungfrau region, and boat trips on Brienzersee. It is an ideal base for exploring the region. We would certainly recommend this hotel.
To answer some of the other Trip Advisor critics, yes there is loud music from an adjacent bar but this stops between 2100 and 2130, so did not affect our ability to sleep. There is a clock which chimes throughout the night, but it is not very loud and should not disturb your sleep. It is much quieter than some clocks in other European cities! The traffic noise did not disturb us either, but it is worth pointing out that the Swiss day starts before that of the UK, e.g. banking hours are 08.00 to 15.30 and some restaurants close as early as 21.00. We would say just go with the flow, get up early and go to bed early like the Swiss. On the rare occasions the reception desk is unstaffed, there is a bell you can use to attract attention.
We had a wonderful stay with no problems. Thank you Hotel du Nord.

Nice hotel on the main street of Interlaken, close to the railway station, the shops and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean. However, we paid extra to get a Deluxe room with a view of Jungfrau mountain but our view has been blocked by the renovation. The reception staff was not helpful and they did not offer to compensation for the difference between Standard and Deluxe room.
We liked the breakfast, especially the wide selection of cheese.

Dear Hotel du Nord guests, Thank you for your feedback concerning your stay with us. Our renovation work is over for now so guests are no longer disturbed. We would like to point out that all construction work done was clearly communicated on our Homepage and all other booking platforms that is why you received no compensation from the front desk. We are pleased you enjoyed breakfast. We look forward to you returning now our renovation has been completed. Kind regards Your Hotel du Nord Team

The staff at this hotel generally tried to provide good service and generally succeeded. We rented 3 rooms in July and one of the rooms had a non-functioning refrigerator. The staff said the unit would be repaired or replaced the next day - but nothing happened. The location is good, close enough to the OST train station to walk and also generally close to downtown Interlaken. A big negative to this hotel was the lack of air conditioning. We had to keep the windows open for any cooling, but there was a church nearby that rang its bells late into the night - so sleep was a problem. The breakfast was good but lacked an omelet station.
Had I realized this hotel did not have AC, I would have found an alternative.

I booked this hotel [ 2 rooms ] through my travel agent for 4 nights during my 3 weeks holiday in Switzerland. I chose this place mainly due to its close proximity to the Interlarken OST Train Station which is only 600m away. I have not read any review of this hotel before making my booking. I was pleasantly surprise by the fantastic services provided by the staff at Du Nord. The receptionists were really helpful, patience and informative when addressing all our questions and queries. Breakfast menu served at the hotel was great too and the staff were all pleasant and never fail to give you a warm smile.
The hotel provides free access to the minibar and our room came with 2 fans in case the days get too hot - how thoughtful. The rooms were comfortable and cosy. We stayed in rooms 120 and 220 which face the carpark but there are some nice views too. It was not noisy at all. Our sleeps were peaceful and uninterrupted.
There are many eateries, shops...etc within walking distance from the hotel. There are lots of restaurant serving halal middle-eastern and Indian food too.
Me and my family had a really wonderful experience staying in this hotel. Thanks a million Du Nord Hotel.

I don't know what it is with hotels in Interlaken as the two I saw were both of poor quality but this hotel was well, just disgusting. No restaurant, no bar, awful looking reception, not welcoming at all, and purports to be a four star. A 3 star at best but maybe a 2 star. The first room we were given didn't meet the description of the brief, "Deluxe Double Room inc breakfast double occupancy". Walked into the room with two single beds that I couldn't like in as my arms by my side wouldn't actually be on the bed. Complained, told there was nothing else available and that the "interpretation" of our brief was the equivalent room we had been offered. Utter rubbish. We were told there was a room with a double bed available for just one night which we reluctantly accepted, which, to be fair was rather nice but would have cost significantly more than the price we paid. Breakfast next morning was OK, nothing to write home about but had a look and feel of a works canteen. Nothing special, And on check out we were offered the room we had been given for an additional night, but by this time to be honest we just wanted to get out of the place and in any event, our travel agent had found somewhere else. I told the receptionist that I will be writing to the Swiss tourist board and something I will follow up on in the coming days. This hotel hasn't improved on iota reading the previous comments, the place is horrible and for the price we paid, we expect something a little more up market and certainly a room that met the brief.

Dear Hotel du Nord guests. Thank you for your feedback concerning your stay with us. Why di you bother travelling to Interlaken at all if you did not like look of them? You are correct in saying that we do not have a restaurant the hotel is classified accordingly as a hotel Garni. The hotel bar is opposite the reception. The ground floor area has just been rebuilt and we are sorry if you did not like the Italien marble but we guess that is a matter of taste. All of the room types are published with photos, ammeneties and type of bed. Be it a double bed or a twin is very clearly written. We offer a continental breakfast buffet with 6 warm dishes. If this did not appeal to your taste then we apologise for that. Kind regads Your Hotel du Nord Team

Before writing this I reread the reviews for the last 6 months on TA. I really don’t get the ones which were so negative. We spent 3 weeks traveling thru Germany, Austria and Switzerland in Sept/Oct. Hotel DuNord was recommended by friends who have lived in Germany for 25 years as one of their favorites in Switzerland. And we, 2 couples traveling together , agree!! This is a beautiful hotel in the perfect spot to explore Interlaken. Our rooms had balconys and were spacious and super clean. The beds, as in all the hotels we stayed in, are 2 twins pushed together to make what we call a King. They were very comfortable. The bathroom is new and modern. All of the people who worked the front desk were so friendly and helpful. They let us store our large suitcase for 3 days while we visited Lauterbrunnen/Murren. They were always ready to make suggestions about things to do and places to eat. And there is a very nice bar across from the reception…not sure why one reviewer said there was not. We had before dinner drinks there each night with the very entertaining bartender Steve. The breakfast was very good with eggs to order and the usual buffet style items you find in most nice hotels in this area. I accidentally left something behind and the front desk ladies have been so helpful in getting that item back to me. All 4 of us traveling together highly recommend this hotel. It was a wonderful stay.
As for the comment from one reviewer that the rooms were hot and stuffy, even though all rooms have large oscillating fans…..we are from Texas, USA and know what a hot climate is and use our AC almost year round…that is why we went in October!! Only one of the hotels out of 10 where we stayed had AC. This is very typical of this part of Europe. You can’t predict the weather and we were told that this last summer was unseasonably warm. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Plan wisely. Also, don’t just look at the ratings..read the actual review. If there are a lot more positive reviews and just a couple of negative ones, then maybe someone was just having a bad day. Or there was an issue that was out of the norm. I have used TA for travels through out Europe and all of the US. Reading carefully the reviews is a must if you want a good experience.

Stayed 5 nights here and have no regrets!! Room 321 is the prize as it overlooks jaw dropping mountain peaks coupled with a birdseye view of the wide open tree lined park. Breakfast was top notch with a myriad selection of cured meats, cheeses of every description, fresh baked goodies along with fried bacon, scambled eggs, sausage and fruits and pastrys...and the coffee and cappucino were spot on ( made by this really awesome machine that can whip out any kind of coffee drink you have in mind in just seconds..made by FRANKE is all I could see on the machine trying to look for a brand name)> Special thanks to Tania for her perpetual smile whether at the front desk or breakfast buffett. Monica and Petra are some of the kindest souls you will ever meet !! We Will be back God Willing ....

The place is a construction site. Windows open onto scaffolding.
Receptionist was curt about it all. Bedroom on the main road and with no aircon you need windows open and you hear all the heavy goods vehicles.
Ripoff price consistent with all things Swiss but at least you get the quality normally. Not here.
Bathroom is for small people.
Brand new mattresses sag in the middle as lack any support. Woke with back pain.

Dear hotel guest Thank you for your booking and your feedback. We regret that you did not hear about our construction site. On every booking platform, we point out the construction work and the scaffolding, as open and honest communication is important to us. For your next booking, we recommend a room on the south side (Deluxe Superior), there you can no longer hear the street noise. We are convinced that our prices are very fair at the moment because we include the construction site in the calculation. It is a shame that you did not report to reception. We would have had a solution so that you could wake up in the morning without back pain. We would be happy if you could give us a second chance Your Hotel Du Nord Team

The location of this hotel is fine and the staff were friendly however I have just reviewed the 6 hotels we stayed in while on holidays in Switzerland and this is the only one I havent given 5 stars to. It was so very hot and stuffy ( and we are from a hot part of Australia) which really impacted on my sleep quality. We stayed there for 4 days, I got tired and I didnt enjoy this hotel. I realise the hotel management will probably write another terse, defensive response telling me to stay somewhere else in future and that is their prerogative. Or they could invest in some room air conditioning units as other older hotels we stayed in had and stop these reviews commenting on the uncomfortable humidity and temperature.

Dear Hotel du Nord guests, Thank you for your review concerning your stay with us. We are delighted you found the location fine and team members friendly. A/C was a point of discussion before building and the decision was taken not to have the installation done. Despite global warming we thought it better not to push even more CO2 into the atmosphere. We nevertheless hope you might consider returning during Spring or Autumn when the temperature is more bearable. Kind regards Your Hotel du Nord Team

Dear Mr Mudgee,
Thank you very much for your interest in our hotel.
We are going to have a renovated lounge area, bar and reception on the ground floor. As there are no rooms on this floor, the rooms are not affected with the work.
There is a scaffolding around the building because they are building a 5th floor on the top.
We are expecting to finish the constraction beginning of the Summer 2020 around May/June.
We would be pleased to welcome you in our beautiful renovated hotel soon.
For any more inquires we stay at your disposal.
Best regards,
