You cannot tell from the outside how your experience will be at any establishment providing accommodations, just like you cannot judge a book by its cover. On the outside, it looked old and dank, because when we went there, it was raining, but still, it held a palpable air of sophistication that we felt by instinct but could not pinpoint exactly where nor why. Once inside, we felt instantly welcomed and were awed by the display of wealth and elegance in the furniture. The reception was opposite the entrance to the bar and dining room, so it was almost always manned. The staff was very courteous, helpful, well-spoken, informative, efficient, concise, professional and pleasant to interact with, whether in English or German. The rooms are straight up the stairs and were very clean and spacious and kept their original furnishings. The bathroom was renovated very tastefully, and it did not clash with the surroundings. An elegant mirror stood opposite the porcelain bath tub and sinks. The wall had aqua and dark blue drawings of a tropical landscape reminiscent of a foggy swamp. The outlines of many pieces of furniture and decoration were gilded. The chandeliers cast a golden glow over the rooms and the windows were easily opened and allowed proper ventilation and let in sunlight and oxygen inside. The fireplace was carved in red marble and the furniture style was that of circa the 1900's. The carpets were in fact exquisite Persian rugs. All in all, the inside decor was very impressive and lent a feeling of grandeur. I felt as though I was residing inside a vast museum of ethnography, art, religion, and history. I also felt at times that I was on the film set of Agatha Christie's Poirot, for those who know the reference and know of the splendour of the settings in which the main character investigated, as an anecdote. Furthermore, the people working here are the ones who brought this former manor-turned-hotel alive. The people enhanced the soul of Park Villa Hotel, the soul which we felt during our brief stay here. Through the people we felt its history, and we were emotionally touched. The owner is especially committed in maintaining the vivacity and prestige of this century-old manor. The owner plays an active role in providing not only outstanding service to their guests, but also an active role in making us all feel like we belong together in a family, even though we met for the first time. The owner and his staff members, or should I say, rather, his team, his children, his friends and close confidants, personally served us a most generous portion and a most diverse selection of fresh breakfast foods every morning, personally poured us and other guests drinks, personally recommended us their favourite dishes and courses for the day or evening, and did everything to meet our requests and satisfy our needs. They also invited us into entertaining, enlightening and insightful conversations about a broad range of topics. They treated us marvellously. We felt at ease and replete the whole time we were here. Moreover, you cannot ask for a better location. It is within walking distance from the old historic town of Schaffhausen, and all you have to do to reach it, is to cross a pedestrian overpass or bridge over the SBB rail tracks, and it leads you directly into the old city, where you can navigate on foot very easily. From Park Villa Hotel, you can also walk, jog or run to the upper hills where you will find the Munot old fortress, a beautiful rose garden and a park. In sum, I absolutely recommend that you give this place a try. If not for lodging, then at least book a diner or supper here, and savour the educated, well-mannered and kind owner and his team's hospitality, joie de vivre, and mouth-watering home-made delicacies. Every second here is worth the time and money, and much more. Even if German is not your first language, the owner and the staff here will still make sure that you feel good, valued and worthy of a bespoke experience in residing in a hearth of Haute Hôtellerie with an air of tailored refinement, vintage high quality and impeccable taste that puts many other ultramodern, sterile, clinical, soulless, industrially-fashioned and mass-consumption boutique hotels to shame in comparison. This abode of tranquility and opulence will leave its beautiful mark on you, and your memories here will be etched in your brain forever. It is truly a three-stars hotel, limited only at three stars by its physical dimensions. The service and accommodations however elevate its real rating beyond five stars. Its rating pulverizes all ceilings and ascends through to outer space. Personally, I will always fondly look back on my time here and describe it with one word : heavenly.…
The infrastructure in this hotel is largely outdated and needs a serious make-over. However it has its charm and the location is perfect to visit the old town. The suite we had gives to the rail tracks in front. It's ok as long you don't want to sleep with open windows. And the view is nothing to write home about. The true gem is the restaurant and its staff. A generous serving at breakfast, very personalized. An interesting menue and fantastic wine card with lots of local wines. The personnel is totally dedicated to please the patrons. We truly appreciated our stay.
My husband and I stayed here 3 nights in September on our honeymoon trip. This building in magnificent. Take note though no elevators and breakfast is okay! There is parking, so spacious almost a whole house! Its well located to get to the train station and around town.
We stayed one night at Hotel Park Vila, and were pleasantly surprised with the grandeur of this lovely hotel. The hotel is ideally located, not too far from Old Town. The owner is heavily involved in running this hotel, and appears to take great pride in the service offered. The room we were provided was quite spacious, and clean & tidy. We dined in, and found the food and wine selection to be very good/extensive. Breakfast was a la’carte (not buffet). We’d probably stay here again if/when we visit Shaffhausen again.
