Known today as the Hotel Palazzo Alexander, the residence encompasses four floors of rooms and junior suites, all with modern, private bathrooms-some with whirlpool baths. In addition, all rooms contain such conveniences as air conditioning, satellite television, telephones, computer hook-ups, safe, minibar, hairdryers and free of charge wi-fi connection. The décor of the residence reflects the noble Lucchese style with the use of antique wood floors in all the bedrooms and fine marble and other local stones in the bathrooms, lobby and common rooms. Located in the center of Lucca’s historic district, Palazzo Alexander is easily reached from the main highway exits and from local train and bus stations.

We were impressed with how beautiful and impeccable this hotel was. Definitely a little hidden gem in Lucca. We loved the service, so kind and helpful. I would recommend to anyone that wants to do some tourism to come to Lucca and stay in this hotel. The sanitary precautions are taken very seriously and everything is very clean and makes you feel very safe. I encourage everyone to take this time to visit these beautiful places that normally are difficult to enjoy because of all the tourists.

What a fantastic hotel in an amazing location. Rooms well appointed and nicely decorated and maintained. Truly impressed by the hospitality of the staff. Even though we only stayed 1 night, we got to speak to the staff individually and this really left a lasting feeling of welcomeness. Roberto was super friendly and always ready to assist. Mario is likewise attentive to his customers. The woman serving us at breakfast ensured a great start of the day: quick and very good service; a perfect start of the day. All in all, the staff makes an already great place even better. I will surely return and recommend everyone visiting Lucca to stay here.

The hotel is simply delightful. The staff are amazing: they really go the extra mile to be helpful. It’s in a very quiet area and the hotel itself is very peaceful with no loud oikish types in sight. Classical music is played very quietly in reception and at breakfast. The latter, served by the excellent Roberto, is personally served and tailored to one’s exact preferences. Rooms are furnished in the traditional Italian palazzo style and are spotless. Mario, the owner, gladly books evening meals in recommended restaurants; his judgment is faultless. Reception staff (Paolo) are unfailingly pleasant & helpful.

As a seasoned traveler, I cannot say enough good things about my stay at this charming, old world hotel. First of all the staff was amazing, going out of their way to help in any way they can to make your stay memorable. We mistakenly booked an extra room (I had forgotten that I had already booked a room for my traveling companion) and they took it in stride and even gave us a better deal than the internet. We had connecting rooms that were perfect for us. The rooms were large by European standards and the bathrooms were very modern. The breakfast was outstanding, even offering made to order omelets which is very unusual for an Italian breakfast. They recommended we eat at a nearby restaurant for home cooking, Vecchia trattoria Buralli and it was excellent as was Pasquale Gubitissa where reservations are essential. I highly recommend this hotel and the fabulous family that runs it.

Very nice location and decorated with style, this hotel is really deceiving.

Very noisy rooms (you hear your neighbours' bathroom activities and upper floor footsteps...

Breakfast was a shocker, under a Covid disguise (not sure why, because of Covid, one should serve Nescafé to guests who order an Americano... And why eggs should be overcooked and with no bacon!)

And all this at a comparatively high price

Please avoid staying there...

In July, we selected this hotel for a 3-notte stay in September. Their website is apparently wonky, and if memory serves uses a booking.com or other booking service, and it readily accepted our credit card information, but never sent a confirmation via text or email. The following day we called to confirm, no answer, no response. As a result, we booked our stay elsewhere. Come September, we received an email from them the first day of our Lucca visit, which my husband did not see timely so did not respond. When reconciling the credit card statement, we saw that we were charged the one night no show fee. We subsequently contacted them requesting a refund because a confirmation was never received. They did show us a PDF of a confirmation but no proof that it was ever emailed to us (it was not received). They maintain they are in compliance by charging us, as did our bank. Case closed.

A fantastic visit to Lucca, and a very relaxing stay in Hotel Palazzo Alexander. Mario is a charming host and we felt like guests in his home. The room was fabulous, the breakfast delicious and Mario gave us some excellent tips for places to visit during our stay, including the performance of Puccini arias and duets. Also highly recommend restaurant Des Artes.

Really enjoyed our recent stay here. Staff really friendly and professional. Hotel is in a fantastic location. Right in the heart of Lucca but at the same time it’s down a lovely quiet little side road. Breakfast was really good and the train station is about 10 - 15 min walk away

The hotel is in a good position right in the heart of Lucca but tucked away at the end of a quiet street.
It is a traditional, rather old fashioned hotel. The beds are comfortable, the rooms quiet, the water hot and everything is very clean. Breakfast is served (rather than self service) and the selection on offer is good.
Best of all are the fantastic staff who make the hotel a real gem. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They recommended a nearby restaurant that we probably would not have found ourselves and made our reservation. It was a delicious meal. They also booked us a transfer to the airport which was cheaper than we could have booked ourselves. I would be very happy to stay here again.

The hotel is in a very quiet part of a comparatively quiet town, a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Florence and Cinque Terra. Like pretty much every place we stayed in Tuscany, the staff were friendly and welcoming and eager to help. The breakfast service was very good and the gentleman in charge was attentive and responsive. The only issue we had was with the very small amount of space that we had in the room, which was very tight for two people with large bags. But I would still recommend this hotel to travelers keeping in mind the space limitations.
