This hotel was not as close to the train station as we had planned. However a $5 cab ride took us to the front door! this is a very charming hotel in walking distance to the wall around the city in which all the city and tourists walk all day! It's also in walking distance to their beautiful city center. We sat and had wine and dinner while listening to live music and watching children play. Breakfast at the hotel was very nice. We sat on their patio out front and drank Prosecco one evening. The room we had was so charming. wood beams on the ceiling, spacious and large bathroom.

We stayed here 3 nights in September 2022 and really enjoyed Lucca and this hotel was a great location and wonderful staff. It was less than 10” walk from train station and only 5” walk from our favorite piazza - Piazza Napoleon. We were in the Soldina room, one level up (no elevator). No real view but had good A/C and comfortable king size bed. Armoire had no drawers but a couple of shelves (and safe was in here), there was a small desk. First night I was bothered by the amount of ambient light that came in around the curtains but then discovered there were shutters behind the curtains which did the trick. The bathroom and shower were very small, but the great rate for this hotel made up for that. Breakfast options were fairly limited but sufficient. There were inside tables and then a lovely outdoor seating area too. Best thing was the friendly and helpful staff! The day we left for Cinque Terre, we had gotten all the way there when we realized we had left a small travel bag with our passports, couple of credit cards, and some cash in the safe. We called the hotel and they found it still in the safe and they held it in their safe until we were able to arrange a courier to pick it up to ship to us. Claudia was so helpful during that very stressful time! Highly recommend Albergo San Martino!

Very much in the old part of Lucca, near the important sites, however quiet as it is in a narrow alley. The room was small (especially the toilet) but comfortable, though may not suit those who are claustrophobic. The staff are very nice. You might hear Claudia doing a Whitney Houston impersonation. We were cordially invited to a coffee when we were leaving. Lucca is wonderful place to walk around. Although expensive due to the touristic presence, the old sights are really marvellous.

Great hotel! The staff are all wonderful - so friendly and real “people people”. They were so helpful when had issues getting into the car park ( due to a concert, not a fault of the hotel), and sorted it for us. Quirky hotel. Love the fun pictures and bits around. Love the fact it was an old brothel. Photos make it look tired but the rooms are much better in real life.

First time in Lucca and we loved it... and I completely agree with the other reviewers who said that this charming hotel is the perfect home base! Our "Family Room" for four was spacious, clean, great bathroom, and so pretty! Breakfast buffet was wonderful and can be eaten at cute tables inside or outside on a small terrace in the front of the hotel. Staff was so friendly and helpful, and the hotel is walkable to everything you'd want to do while in Lucca (and it's only a 5-minute walk from the train station). Opera concerts are performed nightly from 7-8pm at a church very close to the hotel, so that was a nice thing to do one night before dinner while you're in town. I hope to return to Lucca, and if so, I would definitely want to stay at the San Martino again.

Suberb Hotel with a family feel, the staff are very friendly and customer focused. If you want to feel at home wether at breakfast or having aperativo's in the cosy garden area, this is the place for you. Bedrooms clean and comfortable, occasionally a little noise from the neighbours but you are in a bustling old city with narrow streets. Lucca is a lovely city, walk the walls, enjoy the restaurants and the friendly inhabitants. The Albergo San Martino is 10/15 minutes from the station. A great little find, visit and enjoy.

Excellent little hotel in Lucca. Very handy for the station and the city centre. Staff were simply brilliant, couldn't do enough for you. Small terrace outisde for drinks or breakfast, which is excellent as well. Rooms aren't big but they are perfectly adequate with AC and large comfortable beds. Very clean and not too expensive for the area. Highly recommended

The location is very nice, near the best places in Lucca and also close enough to the walls. The outdoors and indoors are beautifully decorated. But the positives end there! We stayed in a very small room with the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Two single beds pushed together, only two really thin pillows that have me back and neck pain, and a tiny blanket. No extra towels, blankets or pillows anywhere to be found. We spent 155 euros for one night with no breakfast and it felt like such a rip off. Sorry but never again.
