Hotel Ilaria and the Residenza dell'Alba are situated in the center of Lucca, within the renaissance walls. Approaching to a medieval door and overlooking on a secular park, under a majestic plane tree, you will enjoy a spectacular architectonic scenery. Our hotel residenza dell'alba are the ideal place for a moment of charme or for a business meeting in a space of light and green designed by the history.

Hotel Ilaria earns high marks for its prime location, making it a perfect base for city exploration and visiting main attractions, according to guests. The property's cleanliness, especially in the updated, tidy bathrooms, is often highlighted by many travelers. While the rooms are generally commended for their comfort and modern amenities, a few guests note they can be on the smaller side.
The hotel is celebrated for its excellent value, with guests appreciating the competitive pricing and complimentary offerings. The atmosphere of the hotel is described as modern and welcoming, with tasteful updates that contribute to guest comfort, though some features may be deemed impractical. Detailed Reviews
I have stayed at this wonderful hotel before and I will be returning again. It is a smaller hotel, privately owned and it is inside the city wall of Lucca. Staff here are all long serving, so if you stay a second time, you will be recognised and they are all most welcoming.
There is a wide choice of rooms here with some leading onto a terrace, where there is a hot tub.
Larger rooms and suites are in the medieval gatehouse, which is directly opposite the hotel.
Breakfast is very good here, a great choice. The hotel offers complimentary tea and coffee all day long, there are even kettles in the bedrooms, there are snacks available all day and from 5.00pm to 7.00pm the hotel offers complimentary sparkling wine or beer to its guests.
The hotel also has a car park.

We stayed here for one night in January 2023.
The hotel is located right across from one of the main gates into the walled city, so the location is very convenient. It's about a 5-minute walk to shops, restaurants etc. A tip if you're arriving at Lucca train station: we chose the "walk" option on Google maps to guide our way to the hotel. That will lead you across the city wall, which involves a few difficult stairs. It's ok if you have no luggage, but we found it a bit difficult carrying our suitcases up the stairs. On our way back to the train station on the following day, we used the "car/drive" option. That added about five minutes to our walk but it was flat and involved no stairs, and 20 vs 15 minutes was no big deal.
The hotel stands out because of its added extras. We had a complimentary bottle of Chianti in our room (as well as complimentary water) and there is an area in the lobby where in the afternoon they leave out wine, beer, Coke, pastries, chips, peanuts etc - all free! You can sit there and enjoy an afternoon snack. We read in other reviews that there is Prosecco from 5pm, but we weren't there at that time.
The room itself was good with a safe, TV, good wifi etc. The bathroom was very large with a bath, shower over the bath, and with lots of mirrors. In some hotel bathrooms the small mirror fogs up and that makes it hard to shave - no such problems with this hotel!
The breakfast was good in a conservatory room overlooking a garden. There was not a huge choice for hot food, but plenty of bread, cheese, cereal, juices, coffee etc.
Because of its location and the added extras, we will definitely consider staying here if we return to Lucca. For what we paid and for what we received in return, we considered that this hotel was very good value.

Really want to give it 4 1/2 stars for such a perfect location with parking for a small fee right inside the walls. Free bicycles and one block from the ancient walls and ramp access. Delicious breakfast buffet, clean modern rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Close to everything

The hotel is well situated if you have a car as it has parking (you pay extra) and is located immediately outside the city inner walls. The beds are comfortable and the reception staff are friendly. Good to also have use of the hotel bikes.
The breakfast is unimaginative and poor and the breakfast staff were ambivalent so much so that we only took our paid breakfast for one out of three mornings. The rooms are ok if a little tired and in need of decoration.
Also when you are in the superior rooms you are in an annex and not in the main hotel.

Me and my Mum stayed for just one night - the location of this hotel is perfect right in the old city center, they have their own parking space and free bikes to ride around the city. The room was clean and quite spacious.
There was a very pleasant woman at the reception - coincidentally also Ilaria who made some amazing restaurant and sights recommendations. Namely a must for dinner Ristorante all’Olivo which is a very pleasant walk from the hotel.

Really nice hotel, in a perfect location just inside the walled city of Lucca. Stayed in Three others in Lucca with the wife, this our favourite.
Modern rooms , very clean , nice staff
Wouldn’t bother including breakfast though, nothing special, better of going out up the road lots of nice coffee places with croissants and cakes , and soak up the atmosphere in this beautiful town

Dear guest Thanks for your kind review, We are happy for your satisfaction but we're sorry breakfast wasn't to your liking. We also find it difficult to understand because the products chosen come from local ovens, cold cuts and garfagnana cheeses and zero km fruit. We also offer a more savory breakfast, with eggs, bacon, toast, freshly prepared. We hope to see you again in our hotel

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in March 2023, booking via Easyjet Holidays. Travel to the hotel from Pisa Airport is easy enough, taxis are readily available however we opted for public transport and it took about 50 minutes (EUR8.70pp) from door to door.
The hotel is well located, 10 min walk from Lucca Station and with several restaurants, cafes and bars close by. The area is great for walking, cycling and was much quieter and less crowded than neighbouring Pisa.
Upon check-in we were kindly upgraded from a Superior Annexe room to a Suite, located in their "Rezidencia" property, a 2 min walk from reception across the street. We were taken there by a member of staff which was a nice touch too. The room (21) was beautiful, a mixture of old and new and on two levels. There were 2 bathrooms, a jacuzzi bath, minibar, TV (with international channels), sofa area and dressing room.
There were a couple of things that stopped us giving the room 5 stars - firstly the heat in the room. Air conditioning didnt seem to work and although the windows opened wide, the room particularly at night didn't cool down. In summer, this might be more of an issue. Secondly there was one small bottle of water in the room which wasn't replenished, and no milk with the coffee making facilities (even though there was a minibar). For a 4* hotel, I would expect this.
There were some lovely touches, the hotel offers a "happy hour" from 5-7pm with complimentary beer, prosecco, soft drinks and snacks. Always popular and a nice way to meet other people staying at the hotel. The breakfast was also included and a great offering with plenty of fresh items which kept us full.
If we were to revisit Lucca, we would certainly come back to this hotel and would recommend the property as a great base to explore Lucca and the wider Tuscan area.

Excellent hotel, would highly recommend it. We would definitely be happy to book the Hotel Ilaria on further visits. Great staff, friendly, helpful and full of smiles , also happy to speak english to language challenged guests! Lovely clean bedrooms, made up freshly daily, lots of fresh towels daily. Comfortable air conditioned rooms.
Great bed. Nice bathroom, plenty of hot water and a good shower. Nice soap and toiletries supplied. TV in the room, fun watching the italian tv! Good wardrobe space. Nice lighting. Electronic Black out blinds. Mini bar in the bedroom.
Every evening between 5pm - 7pm there is a mini reception area where guests are invited to enjoy a beer or a glass of prosceco or tea/coffee, and nice snacks like chocolate wafers, and to meet other guests - this was a lovely touch and the prosceco was actually really nice so i hope they continue to use that brand!! We enjoyed a beer and a prosecco outside on the little moat/viaduct while listening to a marvellous musician playing outside (busking if you can describe a concert pianist as 'busking'!!!) it was lovely.
Carparking available (though there is free also parking about 15min walk outside the old walls). We didn't bring our car this time as we knew we were staying within the old town where there is no need for one. We travelled to Florence twice by train (1hr 20mins) for daytrips. A rental car would be handy if you want to travel further afield. Great Breakfast at the Hotel Ilaria served on their gorgeous balcony overlooking an old villa - my husband appreciated rashers and eggs, while my vegetarian preferences were also amply met with fresh fruit, cereals, toast, various italian pizza slices, cheese, honey and lovely pasteries also. We enjoyed a nice drink on this balcony (with little birds singing) in the evenings before heading out.
Next door there was open air Italian cinema playing in the beautiful old villa gardens. Anyway we really miss Lucca already and hope to return to the Hotel Ilaria near Christmas. Highly Recomend this hotel and it is in the perfect location in the old town, close to the botanic gardens, quiet, peaceful and leafy but a short stroll to all the restaurants and shops galore. Wonderful!!!

The hotel is situated within the walls in a quiet street and within walking distance of the centre of Lucca. The hotel is modern, spacious and scrupulously clean. Rooms are large with well equipped bathrooms and air conditioning. The staff are a credit to the hotel - welcoming, helpful and friendly.

This is a beautiful hotel and I would definitely recommend it for a city break in Lucca or as a base for Tuscany. This was my 5th visit so that says everything. I stayed 6 nights. I love Lucca, and I love this hotel. It is in the ideal location near to the walls and to the ‘centro storico.’ I cycled the walls on my Ilaria bike (complimentary) every day and this saves you hiring one which can be quite pricey. The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you need and the AC is very effective especially when the temperature reaches 35 like last week! Breakfast is very good and the breakfast staff go out of their way to ensure your breakfast is as pleasant as possible. There is an array of tasty Italian cold cuts, cheeses, bread, eggs, fruit & yogurts as well as the best thing about Italian breakfast - torta! My personal favourite was the ricotta and chocolate - I know, but I was on holiday - so?! There is a cafeteria downstairs open all day with complimentary snacks and drinks and then at 5pm - the highlight of the afternoon - Happy Hour, which is actually 2 hours with complimentary Prosecco!
There is a hot tub (not too hot in July/August!) on the sun terrace which was very pleasant.
Everything I’ve mentioned above makes this hotel a special place but the reason my husband and I keep going back is because the staff on reception, and all around the hotel, are just so wonderful. Helpful, courteous and very kind, they really go above and beyond to make your stay there very special indeed.
