Hello everybody! I am the owner of Hotel Ristorante Villa Cheli and my name is Vincent. Today I decided to write a review to tell a little bit of our house .. Villa Cheli is a colonial villa built in 1700 , formerly owned by the family Cheli . The last owner was a sculptor , a sculptor of chalk. During the restoration , in fact , we found some of his works in the attic .. And we thought .. Why not share it with our guests ? Coming to visit us in fact you can admire them within the walls (internal and external ) of the Villa .. A bit ' as we were in a museum. The hotel rooms are located on three floors .. The first floor, the main floor of the Villa, are situated the suite and two rooms overlooking the balcony .. The second floor rooms with large windows and high ceilings on the third floor .. Instead there are the most romantic rooms with sloping roof with exposed beams and small skylights in the ceiling. On the ground floor, in addition to the reception, we have our own restaurant, open for the summer season , from March to November , that in addition to the typical dishes of Italian cuisine in general , it also offers some taste of the Tuscan tradition and Lucca. And for relaxation ? Do not miss our pool and our wellness area! All the staff and me we will be happy to welcome you in the warmest way possible and help you with all your needs

I came back to Villa Cheli after 3 years and it still is a first class experience. The villa is beautiful, the swimming pool is huge, there is a good buffet breakfast and their Camelia restaurant for dinner is absolutely amazing. However, what really stands out is the staff, always so kind and willing to go out of their way to help you, especially Silvia, but all the staff members are top notch.
The location is 10 minutes drive from Lucca city center, so you can enjoy the beautiful city and relax in the afternoon.
Highly recommended!

When you arrive to the place and see this nice mansion at the very end of cypress alley, you are very impressed - kind of typical Tuscany picture.
Once in your room, the dream quickly fades away. rooms would definitely require a massive refurbishing as clearly outdated and bathrooms are really average.
We did not try the restaurant but only the breakfast and was so-so.
Good point is the big swimming pool on the back of the house but keep in mind that it is in the shade quite early in the afternoon (because of the big hill nearby).

Beautiful location and building. Friendly staff. Great swimming pool. Good breakfast selection.
We stayed for 5 nights in one of the 'dependencies', effectively a separate annex to the main house. Our accommodation comprised a small sitting room (which had sofa bed and a tiny fridge), the bedroom and an ensuite bathroom. The place was pretty dark with not much natural daylight. The double bed was comfortable and the bedroom a good size.
The bathroom was ok but the shower was tiny and you could hardly take a shower without bumping into the sides or the tap. If you are a bigger person, you'd have a real problem taking a shower in that tiny cubicle. The bathroom itself was big enough to have a proper-sized shower. Honestly, for the price we were charged for the accommodation, we would have expected better facilities.
The main house had a large dining area (including a nice outdoor section) but could do with a lounge/sitting area. (If there was one, we didn't see it).
We ate at the restaurant on a few occasions. The waitress we usually saw was lovely (unfortunately we didn't get her name). The menu and food was mostly very good. However, the last dinner we had was on a Sunday evening and the chef (Marko) must have been off because my wife's seafood pasta (which I'd had previously and was very good) seemed to lack the seafood. We think whoever prepared it forgot to add the main ingredient!
All in all, we did enjoy our stay, but for the price we paid (on average 269 euro per night), the overall accommodation could have been better.

I was part of a group of people from France , Wales , the US and the UK who stayed at Hotel Villa Cheli for a weeklong class . The location and facility is so beautiful -and convenient to the town of Lucca so it makes going to Lucca easy from the Villa. And the grounds and building were perfect for a weeklong workshop . The owners of the company sponsoring our workshop had communicated closely with the management of the Villa team about our need for rooms , our schedules and our meals.
Despite all of their efforts the food was some of the worst I have ever eaten in any country —dry hard chicken, French fries , ketchup in packets , tough lamb , runny crème beulee and flans . They have a chef whose name is on the sign as you drive to the Villa but he did not try to work with the sponsoring company leaders. Rarely was there anyone available at the front desk to assist guests or at the bar for coffee or wine . We would have to stand and wait , stick our head in kitchen or leave and return hoping to catch someone .
The air conditioner in our room broke -the maintenance man looked at it and made no communication re what to do nor did the front desk call to explain. Eventually we moved to another bc there were issues with a bad smell in our bathroom plus no air and the next room they moved us to which they assured us had functioning air wasn’t working .
Breakfasts were good with coffee , cakes , breads and cheese. Often times the employees cigarette smoke would blow from the Kitchen areas into general rooms where we were or in dining areas
. It was a disappointment that the staff and chef were so disinterested because this Villa is lovely and has so much potential . But the dismissive attitude of chef and managers will keep me from returning there or from recommending it to anyone .

Suggest not to buy the olive oil, its a scam. We had dinner this summer at the restaurant with a group of friends and they opened a fanatic bottle of olive oil for us. We were so impressed that we all bought one or two bottles to take back home. When we opened it back home we all discovered its not the same. Colour is very light green and tastes like sunflower oil. Disgusting and so disappointed from this place. We had a fantastic meal, very friendly owner and family, we were not expecting such a scam. Especially since I’ve brought several clients in the past to this hotel.
The owner reassured me that it was the same oil, this is the most disappointing part, we spent some time talk about the oil. I’m keeping the open bottle and taking it back to him when I return to Lucca. I’ll make sure he enjoys it.

Goodmorning, we're really sad to read your words and we're sorry about that but the maintenance of the oil also depends on the temperatures to which they have been exposed, such as exposure to the sun or heat sources. Our olive oil is always made with our olive trees that you find in the property. We have no intention of scamming our customers, especcially those like you. We kindly ask you to send us your address where we will be able to send others olive oil bottles. We want assure you that the oil served at the restaurant is the same that we sell in our cellar. Hope to receive your reply as soon as you can. Best Regards Hotel Villa Cheli

Really a 3.5 . This hotel is in a lovely setting and has a fabulous pool . The staff are lovely too . Much needed after the madness of Florence
Rooms must be improved to improve rating and also there is limited food options during the day .
The hotel is a few KM from a town and you can feel a tad stranded when you want a snack after travelling

Good size room, the pool is very clean, however you have to pay 3 euro to use a towel !! Which I find very poor! The bathroom was dated and the light worked me as electric cables were showing.
Air conditioning a bit old fashioned and not great, could do with a refurbishment of the rooms. Breakfast was a mess, it was like being in a canteen, had to struggle to get anything, the coffee was awful. the buffet was set up in a very small room with no space to get anything. The location is OK for Lucca if you drive in but very expensive by taxi.
Staff were OK not over friendly.
In general I think the hotel is a good location if you drive but does need an update. We didn't eat in the hotel

Impressive outside, and has a nice pool surrounded by AstroTurf and wasps.
Inside, the rooms have plastic shelves and rusty fittings. The housekeeper is really loud, and wakes everyone up at 6.45am by slamming doors and cupboards and dragging things around. As for breakfast, not quite sure how you can get toast and cereal wrong, but they managed it. There was no milk, a complete refusal to make the bread even slightly brown. Very friendly receptionist though, which is why the score isn’t lower. There’s no bar. Dinner is worth it, should you choose not to go into town.

The Villa is beautiful, the pool area good, on the drive up to the Villa it looked great. Unfortunately almost everything about the place could be better. The room was ok, but dull. A great view for sure, but a tiny bathroom with an elbow bashing shower and sad thin towels.
The aircon was noisy and not a match for the morning sun.
Breakfast was lamentable. Self served either on a terrace that was not well shaded, or in a dull windowless dining room. Tables were not laid up at all, everything had to be carried out on a tray.
A toaster that took an age and only toasted one side. Cheap produce, plastic cheese. The fruit selection varied from day today, if you were lucky there might be a ripe peach. Bread rolls that were a little stale, as if had if they had been frozen.
Eggs were rubbery and not refilled if you got down towards the end of service.
It was more like a cheap motel breakfast than a good hotel.
We had dinner at the Hotel restaurant one evening. It was not good either.
The main courses were only ok, the accompanying vegetables were dull.
I sent back my starter as the melon was not ripe, an essential if the plate is only melon and ham, it came back with the same melon, but the rind had been removed. Unbelievable! No apologies were offered when I sent it back again.
When we came to pay the bill at the end of our stay it was still on it.
We felt that customer care was lacking at this Hotel. That corners were cut at almost every opportunity.
It could have been great, but it really wasn’t.
Oh and check out was at 10 am, really, so last century.

Our stay here was perfect. Kind and welcoming staff, excellent food and service and a beautiful, spacious room. We stayed here for Christmas with our two young children, who were made to feel very welcome and they enjoyed the garden and space around the villa to play in. We will certainly be back in the summer months to enjoy the swimming pool and eat outside on the terraces. I would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you.
