Beautiful boutique hotel with secure off road parking (that needs to be booked in advance, a must if travelling by car!) less than 10 minutes walk into the heart of Verona. Room was amazing, great size and really comfortable, also surprisingly quiet as it was at the front of the hotel! Breakfast was typically Continental but ample! Service throughout was excellent!!

The hotel stood out as one of the most stylish and classy places we’ve ever stayed. Art decorations were filling all walls while all furniture was carefully picked. It gave us the impression that it was an old house renovated to a hotel. Our room had a rustic style and was very comfortable.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Great location, just 10 minute walk to Arena and Piazza Bra. Bus services to all other areas and main train station within 5 minutes walking distance. The Hotel staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The hotel doesn't have a lift as rooms are on one floor only, but the staff happily helped us with our baggage. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice to suit everyone. A comfortable area for relaxing with books and tea making facilities.

Although the staff at Hotel Scalzi were incredibly nice and helpful, our stay was just okay. We had a very cute room off the garden but the air conditioning never worked and it was extremely hot in our room. The bed was also on a loft upstairs which was not a problem except there was no curtain on the middle top window. The light stayed on inside the building across the garden all night shining directly into the room. The breakfast in the morning was nice but is directly outside the room. The location is okay as well. You are walking distance from the arena and historical area of town but it is about a 15-20 minute walk.

Perfectly located between the center and the train station, a clean and peaceful hotel, authentic and rustic interiors, kind and accomodating staff and a reliable base if you want to explore the many scenic nearby areas too.

We were away in Italy and planning to stay in our favourite city for our wedding anniversary. This hotel cancelled us four days before we were due in Verona this was quite stressful as although they offered to find us another hotel the rooms were considerably more expensive and just basic rooms. I feel they should have honoured the same price we had paid for their hotel room. Hence we ended up booking independently but Verona had limited choice by then and just was not the same. I don’t just think they realised or cared about the inconvenience it caused to the customer. I wouldn’t risk booking this hotel again.

Dear I8379, we are truly disappointed to read this comment as we think to have done our best for you in this case. We informed you as soon as we realized that the room couldn't be occupied due to the considerable damage it got after the storm. We found two alternative hotels, based on the choice that Verona offered by that day and you got two proposals for the same room type as the one you booked with us. The first option was a cheaper place than ours and another one more expensive but with more services, to let you choose the most suitable for you. We renovate our apologies and best wishes.

I too like many other recent reviewers was surprised at the great reviews the hotel had received. However I do believe that the positive reviews are very dependent on in which room you stay. We were initially allocates Room 4 on the first floor. To say it was a little shabby would be an understatement. There were scuff marks on the walls, the fabric on the small chair in the room was worn, the radiator in the bathroom was rusting, the size of the TV screen was smaller than my laptop and to crown it all the hand held shower head did not fit securely in the cradle so the minute you turned the water on to have a shower the shower flew out of the cradle and water went everywhere. And then the shower doors were broken. We complained to the lady on reception who immediately apologised and said she would change our room. And this comes back to my point about your view of the hotel being determined by the room you are allocated. We were moved to room 2 and unbelievable as it may seem that it was only the room next door, it was like being in a different hotel. The walls were nicely painted, the TV looked like a TV not a PC monitor, the shower was great and the furniture in good condition. The only downside was the mattress which was hard but that is just a personal preference. Overall I think you need to recognise that you are paying for a very well located hotel in a very popular tourist city that is only 2 star so you cannot expect much more than you get. Overall if you don't want to pay the prices you pay for similar hotels in the heart of the Old Town but want to be located within walking distance of all the main sights and very convenient for the train station then Hotel Scalzi is perfectly fine, just don't expect the Ritz!

Thank you for the honest and polite review, Cendboy17. We are renovating the hotel little by little so we know that some rooms need some changes which we are trying to fix when the occupancy gives the chance. If something goes wrong, we always do our best to sort it out and let guests fully enjoy the time in our lovely Verona.

This is a well located hotel between the train station and the Arena. The staff are helpful and the location in an old Palazzo has so much potential. Our room in the garden required a walk through the breakfast space which is cluttered and full of junk. The room while comfortable with good services and a good bed was tired and could be modernised. The breakfast needs to be updated. Fresh juice, more choice and better coffee. At €250 per night I don't propose to pay €3 for a second coffee at breakfast.

Nice hotel in old building, good location. rooms were average/adequate. Short walk to Arena and centre of Verona, although even in mid June it was very busy. Breakfast was OK but cups/saucers were chipped - however service was good.
