The very clean bathroom was small but adequate with a shower but no tub. The only odd thing was loud turquoise colour tiles on the floor that seemed to have no relationship to the rest of the room’s decoration.
I struggled a bit with the wifi with a non-password protected login that didn’t work well at all. When I complained the receptionist helped connect me to a password protected version that worked fine. Then, just before check-out, I discovered a small piece of paper in the key envelope that included login credentials and a password. The person who checked me in had not mentioned that it was included with the key. The hotel was very quiet, in fact I never saw or heard another guest. It was also very well priced which may have been due to a lack of guests because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Overall, the Roma e Rocco worked well for me and I would be happy to return.
We were quickly checked in by unsmiling female staff. I appreciate it is impossible to smile 24 hours a day and English is not their first language.
Room 446 was at one end and apparently one of 15 of the 90 rooms that have not been airconditioned. It was too warm, so I hate to think what it would be like in summer. The aircon for the 75 rooms that have this was switched off according to a staff member. I would prefer to be able to control it myself.
The room was attractively appointed with a good desk. Its lamp did not work.
There was a heritage chest of drawers and pleasingly a shelf on which to place a suitcase.
Another plus was that the quality Queen bed had a top sheet, not just a doona.
The room had lovely green carpet and bedside tables with lamps.
On two of our four nights, there were noise problems from the 5th floor. The first time this occurred, we thought it was a large rat but worked out it was a dog as in the morning, it barked. It is a cultural thing but I am anti pets in hotels or on public transport. The second time, it sounded like a woman's stilletto heels, lasting until 2200 hours.
The bathroom was great as the shower worked without fault. Individual shampoo bottles were supplied. Towels were of excellent quality.
The first floor breakfast was very good even though there was only Greek yoghurt.
Pastries were fresh and plentiful and four types of juice were on offer. There were coffee machines.
The ground floor had a PC for guests' use. Good.
One thing I forgot above was that the welcome drink was for one person not two, though it included pistachios, chips and two other snack items. Penny pinching.
Was not disappointed with the hotel at all. An older style hotel the facilities were good. Even though it is located in a busy part of town and there many guests staying the room was very quiet in fact I heard not a sound over three nights I was there.
Breakfast which was complimentary was very pleasant particularly if a table was free in the open air section.
From 6pm they have a balcony bar open for drinks and aperitifs which was very relaxing.
The staff were friendly and helpful despite my very poor Italian! I also thought it very good value.
There are some rooms with a balcony, which is not furnished. My room did not have one and faced the street. Thanks to the good windows, I did not hear any street noise during the night and could sleep well. There is a minibar in the room. It is empty and can be filled with your own drinks. Aircondition worked well. From April to October there is a garden terrace on the second floor where you can have drinks and snacks.
The breakfast is above average for an Italian 3-star hotel and there is something for everyone.
I can really recommend the Hotel Roma e Rocca Cavour and it is perfect for visitors to beautiful Turin thanks to its ideal location.
To flee ! A cold welcome, a rustic hotel in poor condition. The hotel is only looking for profitability but absolutely not for customer satisfaction.
- The rooms are bathrooms, the carpet does not make you want to walk on it. When it comes to showers, the shower head shoots anywhere, with no ability to adjust it.
- For the breakfast part, the choice is limited, industrial juices and nothing is returned once finished.
- For people who love noise, don't hesitate, this is the place. The walls are as thin as paper. To add, during the two nights we spent here, work just above our room started at 8am, impossible to sleep with so many hammer blows! We had warned of this before the first night (the hotel being fully aware of this work as it is on their premises) and the hotel did not offer us a room change. The same thing happened the second night. When we ask for a gesture for these unbearable noises, the manager absolutely refused to make any gesture.
Usual in hotels, we rarely post reviews but these two days were a disaster from start to finish, so we wanted to be alerted, other hotels in Turin deserve better attention!
If they had just refunded me or waived the room fee due to the poor condition of the room, I would have been inclined to give them a second chance. Instead, they have dug in and refused to take responsibility for a situation that is clearly their fault, promising a facility that they did not deliver. This hotel should be absolutely avoided by anyone looking for a good night’s sleep. Moreover, anyone looking for good customer service that has the interest of the customer at heart should also avoid it. My experience has been one of frustration and disappointment. It not only ruined this trip, it also ruined the memories of a trip I took years ago also. Never again.
