We had a comfortable suite which was really quiet. The area is quiet as well. You have to walk for about 15 minutes to get to the city centre but that's just nice because you get the chance to see local genuine streets with bars...More
We stayed for 5 nights at the well appointed Porta San Mamolo hotel. It lies just within the city ring road and is 10 minutes walk from the Porta San Mamolo bus stop (Bus 32 and 33). These buses operate a frequent circular route from...More

This hotel should please all but the upscale tourist. Rooms are good looking and bath facilities above average but a bit small. The morning breakfast is nicely laid out and tasty. The small garden on the way to breakfast is delightful. The service was way...More

If you don't have heavy luggage it is also possible to walk, crossing the center it takes 35 minutes. By taxi it takes around 10 minutes for 10/12,00 euro.

No, the Porta San Mamolo is not just in the center; it is just at the edge of where the old city wall passed (that's why it is called "Porta" (Gate)). To get to the Piazza Maggiore, you have to walk four long blocks. The area is very nice, however, and there is a good restaurant at the corner called Sangiovese.

We had a hire car to get to the hotel and then walked everywhere. There is a bus map at people.reed.edu/~reyn/BolognaMap.pdf which is a bit complicated but the A bus looks like it goes within a few 100 yards of the hotel.
