The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the beach and a short walk from bars and restaurants. We stayed in a mini suite on the 5th floor it was spacious with a big balcony with sea views, it was fully air conditioned. Some rooms have a bath with shower and some have just a shower. Some of the family stayed in a standard room on the 2nd floor, this too had a nice balcony. The rooms all have a coffee maker, we preferred tea so the reception sent a kettle for us to use. The only minor criticism of the standard room was that there was very little drawer storage space. There is a very nice outside terrace which is ideal for socialising, it is a large area with ample seating and sun shade, great for when the weather is good. We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel as there was not a lot of choice for €15 each. There are plenty of places to eat nearby at very reasonable prices. We found the other meals and drinks at the hotel were very good value especially the fixed price evening meal at €26 each, this was 5 course and was delicious. All the staff in the hotel are very nice, they will get a taxi for you within minutes, we paid €25 to the airport & €7-8 to Santander centre. This will be our go to hotel if we return to Santander. The reception staff do speak enough English to get by with but there is very few English speaking staff in bars and restaurants.

What a great hotel and location.
Sardinero is the best area of Santander with beautiful beaches, local bars and restaurants.
You can wander into Santander along the lovely promenade and catch the bus back. Miles of cycle lanes and electric bikes can be hired at the reception.
Our room was a good size with modern shower room and had large balcony which had sun most of the day.
Recommend booking the restaurant which has amazing quality set 3 course menu including wine and coffee for €26! (As well as a La carte).
Staff are extremely helpful.
We booked via Brittany Ferries and their deal included a very good breakfast (and a discount on the ferry fare).
Parking in the underground car park is expensive but we found plenty of spaces in the surrounding streets at the time of our visit.

There was no logic to us choosing the Gran Hotel Victoria due to an enforced overnight stay in Santander (thanks Brittany Ferries).
However, as it turns out, the locations is excellent, the hotel (and our room) was exceptional and the staff are very friendly.
For very little money at all - we got a massive double room with the biggest bed I have ever seen.
Everything was spotlessly clean and provided everything you would want from a hotel.
If there was one downside, it is that the parking seems to be quite expensive. However, it is underground and very secure and safe.
Further research indicated however that the cost of the parking is less than the average for the area.
We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We were impressed with this hotel on arrival, nice common areas, parking onsite (albeit a tad expensive), good location/setting, easy checkin, clean room.

But two very important things this hotel needs to get right…

(1) The dinner service.
They had one (very hard working) waiter doing everything, the result was a v long way even for a menu. We couldn’t blame him as he was doing his best but just couldn’t keep up.
To add, the restaurant is outside in a temporary building which may be lovely in the summer but was not quite so glamorous in the rain. We were amazed the waiter had to keep going in and out (in the rain) to get drinks and food, utter madness…. Especially when there are large areas inside the main hotel not being used. We felt really sorry for this guy and as a result didn’t order starters, more drinks or desserts as it was just too painful to watch.
(2) The hot water.
We had none, just not good enough.

We wouldn’t stay here again for the above two reasons, limited time and travelling require decent service and hot water as standard.

This hotel is wonderful and is conveniently situated a short walk from the beautiful Sardinero beaches, restaurants and bars. The reception and bar/restaurant staff are friendly, professional and extremely helpful, they spoke English very well. The room was very clean and extremely comfortable with great views of the sea and the housekeeping service was second to none. The breakfast buffet is delicious, fresh and ample with something to suit all tastes and the evening meals are very varied with excellent service, although we only chose to eat here once due to the many other options to try in Santander/Sardinero! This is our second stay at this hotel and I’ve no doubt it won’t be our last!

Email sent on October 7 to the Director of the Gran Hotel Victoria de Santander, and I am still waiting for a minimum response from the management:

"Madam Director of the Victoria Hotel.,

I am writing to you in order to express our deep displeasure, discomfort and indignation, regarding a recent experience during our meal on October 7, at your establishment.
Unfortunately, the evening was marred by the presence of a group of football fans who behaved in an absolutely inappropriate, disrespectful and disruptive manner.

Throughout the meal, this group of individuals (10) demonstrated a total lack of respect for other diners by having insulting conversations, bad words, profanities, shouts, all out of tone and out of place, without any of their employees calling them on. order or change space. Their unpresentable soccer behavior has prevented us from having our quiet meal from the first minute, creating an uncomfortable and completely unacceptable atmosphere for us who, having reserved a table for 3 people in a quiet area by us and our mother, a 91-year-old lady For years, we have had to put up with people for an hour and a half without being able to talk to each other, because the tone was such that it was impossible to communicate.

It is important to note that we chose the Victoria Hotel with the expectation of enjoying a pleasant dining experience, which we have been accustomed to every time we have come.

And the most striking of all: I reiterate that at no time did the Maitre or Head of the Room draw attention to this group, so that this behavior would stop. Tranquility and respect and civil behavior towards clients and on the part of clients must be a priority in your establishment.

We appreciate your attention and take note of this complaint, hoping, both for the clients and the hotel's image, that they take appropriate measures to prevent such uncomfortable and counterproductive events from being repeated.

Sincerely,"

Cleaning leaves much to be desired. The bathtub leaks water from the corners and goes to the floor. The bathtub is very old. The parking lot is very dirty and smells bad. The very small room. It is very hot in the common rooms of the hotel. They only turn on the air conditioning occasionally and you get very hot. You have to adapt to the time.

Company food. For 35 euros brothed rice, fishery, meat and dessert. Good service. Very quiet on the terrace. I recommend it for family events or company meals. And then you can take a walk in the Sardinero...that is not like the whole world

Very nice hotel with beautiful grounds and back yard. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Good bathroom with shower and adequate space. Location another plus, walk two blocks down the hill and you are at the beach by the casino and plenty of restaurants.

The hotel is on a bit of a hill, so it might be challenging to go back and forth to the beach front. There are some vegetarian dishes on the hotel menu but limited.
