Sardinero is the best area of Santander with beautiful beaches, local bars and restaurants.
You can wander into Santander along the lovely promenade and catch the bus back. Miles of cycle lanes and electric bikes can be hired at the reception.
Our room was a good size with modern shower room and had large balcony which had sun most of the day.
Recommend booking the restaurant which has amazing quality set 3 course menu including wine and coffee for €26! (As well as a La carte).
Staff are extremely helpful.
We booked via Brittany Ferries and their deal included a very good breakfast (and a discount on the ferry fare).
Parking in the underground car park is expensive but we found plenty of spaces in the surrounding streets at the time of our visit.
However, as it turns out, the locations is excellent, the hotel (and our room) was exceptional and the staff are very friendly.
For very little money at all - we got a massive double room with the biggest bed I have ever seen.
Everything was spotlessly clean and provided everything you would want from a hotel.
If there was one downside, it is that the parking seems to be quite expensive. However, it is underground and very secure and safe.
Further research indicated however that the cost of the parking is less than the average for the area.
We thoroughly recommend this hotel.
But two very important things this hotel needs to get right…
(1) The dinner service.
They had one (very hard working) waiter doing everything, the result was a v long way even for a menu. We couldn’t blame him as he was doing his best but just couldn’t keep up.
To add, the restaurant is outside in a temporary building which may be lovely in the summer but was not quite so glamorous in the rain. We were amazed the waiter had to keep going in and out (in the rain) to get drinks and food, utter madness…. Especially when there are large areas inside the main hotel not being used. We felt really sorry for this guy and as a result didn’t order starters, more drinks or desserts as it was just too painful to watch.
(2) The hot water.
We had none, just not good enough.
We wouldn’t stay here again for the above two reasons, limited time and travelling require decent service and hot water as standard.
"Madam Director of the Victoria Hotel.,
I am writing to you in order to express our deep displeasure, discomfort and indignation, regarding a recent experience during our meal on October 7, at your establishment.
Unfortunately, the evening was marred by the presence of a group of football fans who behaved in an absolutely inappropriate, disrespectful and disruptive manner.
Throughout the meal, this group of individuals (10) demonstrated a total lack of respect for other diners by having insulting conversations, bad words, profanities, shouts, all out of tone and out of place, without any of their employees calling them on. order or change space. Their unpresentable soccer behavior has prevented us from having our quiet meal from the first minute, creating an uncomfortable and completely unacceptable atmosphere for us who, having reserved a table for 3 people in a quiet area by us and our mother, a 91-year-old lady For years, we have had to put up with people for an hour and a half without being able to talk to each other, because the tone was such that it was impossible to communicate.
It is important to note that we chose the Victoria Hotel with the expectation of enjoying a pleasant dining experience, which we have been accustomed to every time we have come.
And the most striking of all: I reiterate that at no time did the Maitre or Head of the Room draw attention to this group, so that this behavior would stop. Tranquility and respect and civil behavior towards clients and on the part of clients must be a priority in your establishment.
We appreciate your attention and take note of this complaint, hoping, both for the clients and the hotel's image, that they take appropriate measures to prevent such uncomfortable and counterproductive events from being repeated.
Sincerely,"
