Nestled within the Alhambra's embrace, Parador de Granada has captivated guests with its prime location and breathtaking views, though some argue that its amenities don't quite live up to the premium price tag. While the hotel's proximity to the historic site wins hearts, the trek into the city and the disturbance from nearby noise can detract from the experience.
Travelers report a spectrum of service quality, from attentive to neglectful, and room experiences that range from cozy but overpriced to disappointingly noisy. Despite the clean and well-maintained premises, the hotel's value proposition remains a point of contention among guests.

Amazing city and coastal views with large and clean rooms, a rooftop pool, friendly staff and fabulous food. This parador has it all with an affordable price. Free parking is another plus! We had a 4th floor room with a balcony and it was great. Ate Twice in the hotel restaurant because the food is so good.

Our visit at the beginning of July was shortly after the hotel reopened following the pandemic and we were impressed with the high level of hygiene standards in place and how quickly the staff had adapted to the new protocol. Understandably, compromises had to be made and that included literature being removed from the rooms and a reduced selection at breakfast but these are minor points. Unfortunately, some areas of the hotel were closed as well, so we were unable to fully appreciate the history of the building.
On arrival we were personally guided into a parking slot followed by a seamless check in. We had a room on the second floor with a small Juliet balcony above the restaurant terrace and overlooking the gardens. Everything in the room had been sanitised and hand sanitiser was available in the bathroom and throughout the hotel. All meals were taken on the terrace of the cafeteria, a delightful location next to the garden and with views of the jardín de paradis. Access to the restaurant and its terrace was cordoned off but the full restaurant menu, together with the cafeteria menu were available. We found all members of staff extremely friendly and attentive and would like to mention Hugo on reception and our waiter Jose Antonio who gave us service over and above the excellent service provided by the other staff.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable two day break and would love to return when the hotel is fully open to appreciate the building itself but I suspect that would only be possible as a resident. The hotel tariff reflects the history of the convent and its location within the Alhambra complex but the precautionary measures in place denied us the opportunity to fully appreciate the hotel’s history.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We have just spent three nights here and were very impressed with the way in which the hotel has dealt with the current situation.Everything was spotlessly clean, all staff wore masks and rooms were thoroughly disinfected between guests .We were impressed by the industrious manner in which staff disinfected tables and chairs once customers left the café/restaurant .
The location is idyllic and consequently we didn't leave the Parador except to visit the Generalife and the Alhambra for which it is ideally located.
On arrival we were asked if we would like an upgrade but we declined as we had selected our room preference on booking. We read from previous reviews that this was expensive so it was helpful to know what to expect. In many countries upgrades are complimentary or a nominal amount but this is not the case here .We appreciated the offer however as it is clearly Parador policy to offer guests the opportunity.
We were on a half board basis but for convenience we had a light lunch here too every day. The restaurant setting on the outdoor terrace is delightful with its view of the Palace of the Generalife opposite .In fact it is quite mesmerising!
Breakfast had been carefully adapted to fit the new normal.Guests are given their own serving tongs and they must wear masks.Wherever possible, as with fruit juices and fresh fruit small bottles or jars are ready filled so you have your individual portion to take to your table.Breakfast and dinner times must be pre-booked for your whole stay on arrival as this will prevent over crowding.
We had light lunches of sandwiches washed down with a glass of wine.Food was nicely presented and cheerfully and efficiently served.
The three dinners were had here were very good, service was attentive and the dishes were very well presented.
Our started included, goats cheese,pâté, salmonejo ,fried aubergines, beef and all were tasty .
Each evening we were given an appetizer from the chef and these were delicious and a very nice touch.
Mains included lamb stew with almonds, suckling pig ,steamed hake, roasted sea bass and they were all delicious. The fish could have been hotter for my palette on one evening but it is a small point given the conditions staff are working under.
Desserts were tasted and included the selection of Parador desserts which my wife loved as there were several small desserts to enjoy.I opted for sorbet and fruit as I was usually too full for anything more!
It was our first venture in the new normal and it is hard to know what more staff could have done to make us feel safe .We certainly enjoyed every moment!

Dear Customer: Thank you for placing your confidence by choosing us during your stay in Granada, and for your review about our Parador staff, restaurant, service and specialy the preventive measures implemented against Covid19. The experience at the Parador is unforgettable not only because of its location in the heart of the Alhambra, with wonderful views of the Generalife, but because it´s located in the Convent of San Francisco of the XV century founded by Queen Elizabeth - Franciscana Tertiary - after the reconquest. Its walls protect the old Nasrid Palace of the Infants and was also the first place chosen by Queen Elizabeth as the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs. Lovely to hear your stay met your expectations and we will be happy to welcome you in the future. Best wishes. Marian Montero - Manager - Best wishes. Marian Montero - Manager -

Overall our experience was extremely poor for this apparently prestigious hotel!
From arrival to departure the staff were arrogant, unfriendly and very uncooperative. We felt very uncomfortable as they attempted to persuade us to take a very expensive upgrade.
We booked a "Gastronomy" package for two nights which was very disappointing and did not meet our expectations. The restaurant menu is very limited an does not vary. On the first night we had to complain, as the quality and portion sizes we extremely small. We were promised the charge for the meal would be cancelled, however on check out we were advised this would not be happening because we were on the "Gastronomy package",,, beware of this potential ocon if you are not happy about the food!
Overall the experience left a bitter taste in our mouths. The location is good for the Alhambra, the car parking is limited and no liability is accepted for damage,to cars they move Better hotels in the local area!

Dear Customer: Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to respond to our survey in relation to your stay at the Parador de Granada . It is important for us to learn from your experience so we can improve the quality of our services for guests. On behalf of the team at the Parador as well as on my own behalf, I would like to apologise for the disruption that you experienced during your stay and we deeply regret the inconvenience that this caused you. Wonderful stay at the Parador with our family of 3 (2 adults, 1 baby). Our first time staying at a Parador, so signed up on their website before booking as an Amigo to get free breakfast, welcome drink, and reduced parking rate. Location can’t be beat as you are literally in the Alhambra compound. As this hotel is an old monastery there are some artifacts and plaques, including the location in the courtyard where Queen Isabella was originally buried. Our room was small (like all of Europe) but shower had great pressure and massage jets. Breakfast was average but filling. One eventful event that occurred is we were riding the hotel elevator on the way to check out and it broke! They had to help us out (a few feet off the floor) as they couldn’t get it fixed while we were in the lift. Made for a funny/memorable experience I guess… haha. Also HIGHLY recommend the Hamman Al Andalus spa, just down the hill from the hotel. Pricey but worth it for the traditional water hammam massages. Our highlight from Granada (along with Alhambra, of course). Would stay in this hotel again just for the unique and quiet location.

We had booked here for one night as a treat to visit the Alhambra next day. When we checked in we were offered an upgrade to a better room - no not complimentary but an additional 150euros on top of the 350 euros already paid! Having read other reviews it seems this is a common tactic and although it had an amazing view it was a small room with a rather poor bathroom and wasn't worth the price.
We booked dinner as arrived late and didn't want to go down to town- the menu was really sounded lovely but the service and staff not 5+ standard. We waited ages to be asked if we wanted a drink, then my husband had to send his cold and undercooked fish back without an apology or acknowledgement from anybody. Otherwise it was very nice and in summer I am sure the dining room is stunning on the terrace. Breakfast was also just ok but nothing really to be excited about.
The hotel is beautiful and in a magical setting and could be outstanding and worth the cost if just the staff cared a little more - they were friendly and pleasant but you didn't feel special for the price paid and when we checked out nobody on reception asked us if we had had a lovely stay or how was it!
However we did go back for lunch and sat outside (its open to non residents) and it was fabulous, lovely friendly service and delicious tapas and sandwiches!

Dear Customer: Thank you for placing your trust in choosing us during your stay in Granada, and for your rview about your recent experience at our Parador, a 4* hotel. Regarding your comments on the aditional sales process, I inform your the day you arrived, we exceptionaly could offer a room with a better view over Generalife Palace (usually full booked), more expensive than your reservation, for a small fee, not the official rate. We always try to propose the best option to our customers to enjoy an unforgettable stay in a 15th century Convent founded by Queen Elizabeth - The Catholic. Sorry if in this case we didn´t get it. About the dinner restaurant service I have managed your opinion with our Headwaiter in order to know what happened and improve it. In summer months, we offer dinner service on the outdoor terrace, un unforgetrable experience. Yours sincerely. Marian Montero - Manager -

As Amigos members we had reserved a twin room at the price of 272 Euros. This was confirmed by the hotel. When we checked in we got a small double room with one bed. When we contacted the reseption they had no information about what kind of room they themselves had confirmed! We managed by our own documentation to get an OK twin room. But at check in the man at the reception desk also tried to convince us that we should accept a better room at an normal additional cost of 300 Euros, but for a price of 150 Euros extra - or even better - a suite at an normal extra cost of 500 Euros, but for a price of 300 Euros extra! I would advice everybody to stay at a normal hotel down town as Alhambra is just a short walk uphill.

I love staying in the Paradores but there does seem to be a large range in terms of what they deliver and the price you pay. This is a very exclusive little Parador located within the grounds of the Alhambra Palace. Just 40 bedrooms of various grades. Great views of the Alhambra Genral Life gardens. The property was a convent in the 15th century and the moorish and christian influences on the property are evident. Mixed with this history are some more modern furnishings which bring the property up to the standard required for the 21st century traveller. However all of this is at a premium price- But it is the old adage of supply and demand and plenty of overseas tourists seem prepared to pay this pemium price for sleeping in a historic building in the grounds of the Alhambra Palace! The newly refurbished 5 star Washington Irvine is within walking
distance and can be half the price ! The
Paradore is beautiful and an air of
serenity pervades. Staff are charming. If
more superior rooms are available when
you check in they will offer to upgrade you
but make no mistake it will be at ur
additional expense. This can take cost of
room to more than €500 per night. Their
restaurant is excellent. Top quality food
and a wonderful ambience. I can only give an mid range rating overall because of their pricing policy.

The location of the Parador in the interior of the Alhambra and tourist circuit allow tourists to enjoy an unforgettable experience. Regarding your comments about our pricing policy, I inform you there is a considerable difference between a modern hotel located outside the wall of the Alhambra and a Convent from 15th centry, founded by Queen Elizabeth the Catholic located within the wall of the Alhambra, in a pedestrian zone that occupies part of the tourist circuit. the granada parador is located within the grounds of the alhambra complex in the old monastery sandwiched between the church and the gardens. the building itself is interesting with open areas of archeological excavation next to the restaurant, and informative commentaries dotted around to relay the historical points of note.
the room was very comfortable and well thought out, with a lovely view over the generalife, and the restaurant had a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere in the evening. the staff were courteous and helpful but without being intrusive. breakfast in the restaurant was also delightful and we think that it was a model for how to maintain hygiene with a buffet breakfast. not the biggest hotel room, but we feel it was a privilege to be able to stay within the grounds of the alhambra. having dinner and breakfast looking over the generalife - this is a luxury in itself.

It was a treat to stay in the Alhambra complex and I would love to do it again sometime in the future. I would stay in this Parador again but would chose a better room. This time we selected a standard room and it was not so charming compared to other rooms we stayed in on our trip. Of course I realize that the rooms are located in a former convent and thus the historical character has to be preserved. As a historian myself, I very much appreciate that. Nevertheless, perhaps a bit of charm could be added to the furnishings in the standard rooms so that they would match a bit more closely the supreme beauty of the rest of these grounds. Of course at 300 euros per night one does expect a bit of charm.
Breakfast was also rather average. Front desk staff were amazing and super helpful - they really could not have been better.

The parador was part of the Alhambra, and has It's own garden. Not sure you can access any of the other parts of the Alhambra.
No I don’t think so. You can buy them from the ticket office when you are there, but if you go online you can buy them and you’ll have more choice than on the day!
You must first inform the hotel of you car’s registration details so that you can enter the Alhambra complex. Once at the hotel car park there is an intercom to contact reception and gain access.
Just to clarify, what I meant by Alhambra Palace is the Alhambra site, not the Alhambra Palace hotel, in case it it's a bit confusing.
Dear Christian,
We confirm that pets are not allowed.
Best regards.
