There is a reason this is the cheapest place in Schwarzwald with the wellness packages. Take your money, spend a little more and go elsewhere. I gave it 2 stars only because it technically delivered what was in our "Wir beiden am See" package, otherwise only 1. After reading the reviews here, we thought we had made a great choice, now I would really like to know what these people were on when they wrote them. Good things: - sauna area is nice. Salzgrotte and Finnish sauna are lovely. - food was as expected, good old fashioned German food, nothing special or gourmet but what I expected from a hotel like this. - bathroom in our room was new and clean. Everything else: - our room (52) is in desperate need of an upgrade. Incredibly old (not in a charming way) and stunk of cigarettes (absolute no-go for me). It was clearly a smoking room once upon a time for a LONG time and nothing gets rid of that small without a renovation. Mattresses were thin and anyone taller than me (I'm 177cm) will kick the bed frame. - "vital" Frühstück was a basic Buffet. Don't expect anything more. Also most things had run out an hour before it closed and wasn't replenished. - massage was WOEFUL. Both my partner and I had different therapists and both were so light that there was really no point. And his came with unwanted babble about dogs from the therapist. Only order if you want to be moisturised. - service is pretty basic (with the exception to the Hungarian waiter who was personable and lovely). I had the feeling none of the others wanted to be there. - the "lake" is a glorified muddy hole with 2 swans that are unable to leave. - sauna isn't open until 2pm!! The entire hotel is then trying to have a sauna in the 5 hours that's its open. So many people came down expecting to have a morning sauna, we saw this because we did the same after our crappy massage at 9.30am. Also meant on our last day we couldn't use the spa after we checked out. - came back to our room after breakfast on checkout day and all our towels and robes were gone. Even though all our stuff was still there and we had an hour qto go. - our bottle of red wine came to the table from the fridge, very cold. - the whole place is run like a moneymaker, there is ABSOLUTELY none of the charm of a family owned, cute black forest hotel. It's big, impersonal, clearly understaffed and overpopulated. This hotel is not the wellness retreat that we expected and felt less relaxed after our trip than we were before. We had the feeling we were always expecting the next thing to be bad, and it almost always was. We wish we had gone elsewhere and cannot recommend.

Service: ++ Rooms: ++ Cleanliness: ++ Location: + Price: -/+ Wifi: available My boyfriend and I needed a break from work and this was the perfect gateway for us. We had a lovely room with a beautiful view on the lake. The room was very big and clean. You don’t hear any sound, this hotel is in “the middle of the forest” and therefore we could enjoy the silence and get some rest. Too bad that we did not have one duvet but two, for us this was not really convenient. We also enjoyed the breakfast every morning. Overall the service is good. We only had difficulties with the parking space. Even though there is enough space it is unclear where to park your car or you need to park a bit further in the dark.

We stayed a couple of nights and really enjoyed the hotel and its location. staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast excellent. We didn't use any of the wellness facilities. Parking is good. Family who own the hotel much in evidence and openly proud of their business. One slight disadvantage no bar as such but nice casual seating in hotel reception area.

The people are friendly and the location very nice with a little lake. However, the comfort in the room was very poor. It was warm outside and without airconditioning even warmer in the room, without any possibility to let wind go through the room. When the neighbours were on their balcony, we could hear every word they said even though they were not talking loud, as we had to leave the door open in the evening, which was very inconvenient late in the evening when we were trying to sleep. For the price (187,50 per night), the room was not very special. The wellness was nice but small.

This hotel is set within the Black Forest overlooking a lake. Our room, at the back of the hotel, had an incredible balcony where we sat and watched the resident swans and ducks. Very tranquil. The staff could not do enough for us and were incredibly helpful and friendly. The spa, which is complimentary to guests, is a great bonus. Most guests arrived by car, we arrived by train and the hotel arranged for a taxi to pick us up. We walked everyday through the forest into the town, which took about half an hour. Fantastic walking and cycling area. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Take the SBahn from offenbourg for amazing views of the area.

Very quiet in the forest, okay the ducks kept talking. Nice pool, just could be a little bit hotter to our taste, separate sauna area but the clothing rules where not very clear . The meals are average, but a very friendly dog to welcome you very gentle

This place is as beautiful as it is in the brochures. We took one of the more expensive rooms with a veranda facing the lake. We hiked into the little town of Freudenstadt which is less than a couple of miles through the mountain paths but did get lost on the way back and were fortunately aided by a number of locals riding their bikes and hiking along the way as well as locals who reviewed the map we had and told us where we were. But we made it back in time for a dinner that was again a realization of a dream situation as the outside setting was absolutely beautiful and complimented. by a wonderful dinner served by a full complement of waiters that assured satisfaction. This the resort in the mountains that you dream about but actually exists.

Stopped overnight before starting Black Forest walk. Staff very efficient and friendly, food OK, large portions. Outside space excellent - eating on balcony and strolling in grounds including walking around the large lake with enormous fish. Room great, dog friendly with good view over lake.

This was our third visit and hopefully not our last. It was as good as ever. The room was excellent, the service very good happy and friendly, the help translating the menu was particularly welcomed, and was the prequel to a lovely meal. It’s difficult to see how anything could be improved.

Our welcome to the hotel was a guy on reception who was just so rude. We were given no info on hotel or breakfast etc. This information was on a sheet in our room written in German which we don't understand. The room was a good size but that was the only positive. The rooms are old and need updating. Bathrooms are tiny. No refrigerators in the rooms. Also no air conditioner. It was really hot so could not sleep. This was also due to the crap mattress on bed & tiny pillows. The sheets on the bed had holes. When you sat outside on the balcony the smell from the lake smelt like sewage. The balcony also was not very private. Hotel is situated so far from town. Nothing around to do. The grounds are untidy and unkept. There is no mobile phone service in this hotel. Their free internet drops in & out. The breakfast was very basis. This hotel is so overpriced. The restaurant is a big waste of money. Not much of a variety and what they do serve is crap. Both my meals were so full of salt. They should cook a meal and let the customer had their own salt. Would never stay here again and couldn't wait to get out of the place. If Germany want tourists they need to step it up. Being rude to customers is not the way to go. Would not give this hotel a 1 star. So proud to be Australian where being happy is just the done thing. Staff and guests at this hotel are just so unhappy. Actually would never go back to Germany. The land of rude people.
