Breakfast was a bit pricey compared to what you could get if you wondered around the local environs, but that is to be expected. There were no problems encountered and even though the hotel is adjacent to a nightclub, the sound proofing was good enough to not notice any noise.
Good size room with a balcony (looking nito courtyard) and decent bathroom. If Ihad one slight concern, the latter was a bit cramped and there was no shampoo/soap, but as we carried our own, this was not a problem.
I would go again, and in fact have just booked for another 2 night stay in August.
Well-run, clean, close to the centre of town and very good value for money.
It's not very centrally located, but we chose it because they have parking (in a garage across the street, and it was close enough to the old city, about a 10 minute walk, that we did our sightseeing on foot.
The extension has no lift (elevator). Walking up narrow stairs with baggage is not fun.
The bath rooms in the extension rooms are the size, and style, of those in an airplane! All plastic. Tiny shower you can't get out from under the water to put on soap. Tiny toilet just next to sink. The whole room is less than a metre wide and less than a half a metre deep!
They had a problem when they built the extension and the, wonderful triple-glazed, windows do not shut. We travelled in August and not being able to properly use the air-conditioner, as the window would not shut, was unbearable. The noise from the street, the local bars and clubs, was also quite loud because the window would not shut.
Breakfast at 8.50 € is not worth it as there are excellent cafés with coffee and croissants all nearby.
Positive: Excellent location right in the centre of town. Friendly staff. Covered and secure parking across the street (10 € per night).
Probably a relatively nice hotel - if you avoid the extension rooms!
The rooms were basic, its a 2 star probably should be a 3 star. It was very clean, fresh crisp bed linen and white towels with lots of hot running water at any time. There was a showerloop added to the bath taps, so not a proper shower but it had a good flow of water through it.
The bathroom also had a hairdryer attached to the wall plus razor sockets.
The TV was french only but it had a film and music channel.
The air conditioing controls looked old but it was 29 degrees outside and it worked well :-)
The hotel is well placed for sightseeing being a very short walk to Place Wilson and then onto the Victor Hugo maret, churches and shopping. It is 2 minutes from the Metro
Sweeping, and mopping bathrooms, is pretty basic cleaning practice. Besides making beds, changing towels and emptying garbage, cleaning floors is pretty much what cleaning a hotel room is, isn't it?! Guests walk around barefoot and in street shoes, possibly tracking in the doggy doo that France is infamous for. How a cleaner could neglect to clean floors even after a guest has pointed out that they're dirty amazes me, especially when the dirt is as obvious as cigarette ashes and toothpicks. For that I really have to give this place poor marks.
Potential guests should also know that rooms facing the street are very very noise at weekends as there are two clubs right below the windows.
There was no shower in my room, just a tub with a hose to sit-shower. Another thing I can't stand. Who sits to "shower" in this century? Especially in a tub that no doubt wasn't washed.
Otherwise, it's a pretty standard French 2-star in a good location.
The room itself was small, but clean. There were twin beds, and there wouldn't have been much room to move around for two people. The pillows were of the small square kind. The bed was comfortable though.
Many reviews have mentioned noise from the street, and when I got to the room it was noisy, but when I closed the outer windows that lowered the noise levels considerably and I heard very little after that and gad a good night's sleep.
The bathroom was clean, but the shower was the over-bath type and there was neither a shower curtain/screen nor anywhere to fix the shower head, so you gad to hold it over your head to shower. Not a very comfortable way of showering and it could easily have been solved. I didn't have breakfast, which cost around €8, I think.
The night I stayed there was a group of about 30 schoolchildren staying in the hotel, so I guess that means it's safe.
There are plenty bars and restaurants in the area,
I paid €60 for the room, which I think was very good value, considering its location in a quite touristy city. I wouldn't recommend it for long stays or for anyone who spends much time in the room. But, for a short stay, a good hotel.
But across the road are two bars which even on Thursday seemed to go all night with people spilling out onto the road. The mess in the morning was evidence of the party that occurred.
We mentioned this on checkout and the Receptionist did offer coffee to make up and suggested next time we ask for a room overlooking the courtyard! Our room had double double glazing, which shows how noisy it was!
Just as you breathe a sigh of relief, the binmen will turn-up to empty all the bottle recycling bins, forget sleep.
Should've followed my own advice and read the reviews!
