My room had a bath and a shower but no plug for the drain in either the bath or sink. It did not make our stay any less without but may need to think about that in the future for other families staying.
It was basic, and just what we imagined it to be which fitted perfectly for our trip. All staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble for us.
All in all the hotel was good and kept clean at all times. If I was to visit Toulouse again I would more than likely book here as its location was perfect, no issues with hotel, local to all transport routes.
Apart from its location , we found this hotel very nice , the welcome was very nice , clean rooms and full breakfasts
Price was an important factor in our choice and we did not regret
We asked if there’s parking available, they said yes there was. But then when we arrived they then said there wasn’t.
I also payed €8 each for the break fast to then come down and see it was a choice of 3 different types of ham, uncooked eggs and bread.
The room was dusty upon arrival, and had a very unpleasant feeling about it.
We did manage to get parking but as mentioned on Booking.com “There will be no extra charge for this request.”
By no surprise we had to pay for the parking on top of the room.
1/5 terrible. Asking way too much, for the standards given.
They have a sign on the door trumpeting how much they care about the environment, asking us to turn off lights, etc. But they don't even have recycling bins in the room. Clearly they only "care about the environment" if it pads their profit margin. Very dishonest.
It was difficult to sleep at times due to noise in the hallway. The heater kept making annoying noises so I just turned it off and slept in the cold.
Probably wouldn't stay here again as I prefer a hotel room with at least some water pressure and a decent sleep quality. This place is not it.
Breakfast could be better, although there are plenty of good places in town to check out anyway, so this is not that much of a biggie.
Otherwise I would happily stay for a third time. We probably will, as my girlfriend is a French citizen from Bordeaux, so we have started a bit of a tradition of visiting Toulouse before going to Bordeaux.
Just a ½ block down a street from the Toulouse Matabiau (TGV) train station. You just need to cross the canal and go down rue Bayard and it is on your left.
I saw a bunch of other reviews stating that there were guys just hanging out in front of the hotel. I did see this as they were always hanging around at the café or brasserie right next to the hotel, smoking, talking on the phone, or drinking (café or alcohol) and just hanging out. I did feel a bit uncomfortable but they left me alone. I can see how for a single woman this might be a problem. Compared to other parts of Toulouse you might see this as a ‘bad’ neighborhood but it changes pretty quickly as you go towards the center of town.
There is a Carrefour City that is open until 10 pm (but I usually arrive 30 minutes before as French stores tend to close early). You can get basic groceries and drinks at Carrefour City.
As of May 2016, there is a bunch of construction going on in front of the hotel and on that street all the way down.
City itself is pretty small and walkable. There is also a rental bike system that came in handy to get out further and to cut down on walking.
Lobby
This is odd but the lobby is located on the 2nd floor (French first floor). So you enter the front doors and you have to walk up steps to get to the lobby. Lobby really does not have anywhere to sit or meet someone. There is a room for breakfast and it seems to double as the luggage holding area (I did not have them hold luggage as I arrived at night and left at checkout because my train left at 12:20 pm).
There is no elevator. The hotel is 3 stories (I think, my room was on the 2nd floor, or US 3rd floor). I did have to carry my luggage up two flights of stairs (and down after checkout) but it was fine.
Staff
Staff seemed to be nice. They did seem to speak English but I only conversed with them in French. Sometimes they would response in English.
Daily maid service was done properly.
Room
I was in a room on the second floor. I room was actually pretty big as far as French standards. The bathroom however was standard size which meant it was small. Did not have enough room to wipe myself, so had to open door. Shower/Tub (yes there is a bathtub) was situation so that there was a place to get out but it was really narrow and I could not get in/out without scraping the wall.
There is a soap dispenser and they did provide one packet of shampoo and one small bar of soap for my stay but housekeeping did not replenish this so I did not have any shampoo after the first night (the soap lasted the whole stay). I had my own shampoo so this was not a problem. I assume I could have asked for more.
The layout of the room was weird. The door to the room opens and you have to go in, then close the room to access the room.
The bed was unusual in that it was lower to the floor. I don’t think there was a boxspring.
There is a desk but it was really small. About wide enough for a laptop. There is a little stool to sit on.
There is also a place for hanging clothes and luggage by the window. It had three shelves that came in handy.
The window was large and opened up to the street corner. You could open up the window fully and maybe even hang out things to dry on the rail. Because of the construction I did not hear much traffic noise (street was mostly blocked off to through traffic). During the day I did hear a lot of construction noise. The windows were double windowed (outer was an older style and inside was newer).
Walls were pretty thin. I could hear neighbors coughing or TV from other rooms. It was full but everyone was pretty quiet.
Room was pretty clean and furnishing was functional and working.
The room was a bit warm when I got there. The AC was a bit hard to figure out but once working it cooled the room really well.
Breakfast
I did not take. Normally I just get something from a bakery nearby.
Restaurants
There are non but there are many in the area. Nothing really nice here. You should head to old town area such as Wilson, Capitole area to eat something nice. Otherwise you have many fast food like, Subway, Shwarma places (usually cheaper than your chains and have many fast food offerings but quality can be anywhere), Pizza Hut, Quick (in train station), as well as many café’s and brasserie in the area. Many of the fast food places are open late. There is a bakery two doors down to the right, as you come out of the hotel.
Pool
Of course not.
Workout facilities
Of course not. I usually run/walk and you are located only ½ block to the canal, which has a bike/pedestrian path that is nice to run on. You are also pretty close to rest of the city and withink walking/running distance.
Wifi
Wifi actually did not work well on my first night. Meaning I could not even check email, or at least it took 20 minutes to download one message. I ended up using my cell phone for data. I did not complain but then found that the wifi worked great from the 2nd night forward. So it must have been a glitch that it did not work well.
TV
The TV had only one English channel, BBC World News. They did have two Canal+ stations and you had the ability to change the audio. So many shows and movies on regular French TV channels and the movie channel allows you to watch English movies/shows in English. The TV was small and mounted on the wall.
Me
I stayed here for four nights. I also speak French (fairly advanced but not fluent in my opinion). I’m Japanese by birth. I’m your average American size (a bit overweight). I personally wanted to get a hotel within walking distance from the Toulouse Matabiau (TGV) station. I was going to a conference in Toulouse and while this was not close to the conference venue, I figured it was easier to be close to the TGV station Traveled alone.
The positives are that it is close to the bus station where you can get a fast bus direct to the airport. The staff were really helpful and happy to help, the place also felt clean.
The negatives far outweighed the positives though. The rooms are really small and the 3 of us barely had any room to move. When we did move the floorboards were so squeaky you were waking one anther up. We were directly above reception and could hear pretty much every thing that was going on. Also there is a door bell that goes off every time the door opens, this was heard clearly from our room every time it opened. Annoying when you're asleep and will wake you up when you are asleep. The beds were far too soft.
Wouldn't stay here again as far to noisy and I had a terrible night's sleep. There is an Ibis around the corner, which I assume would be about the same price, I'd probably check that out instead.
