The next time you travel, instead of looking at hotel, would you like to try a Guest house experience? For me, my best hospitality experiences around the world have been in guest houses. There’s nothing like the warm welcome of a Château or an historic establishment, specially designed for travelers with a keen sense for comfort and hospitality. Never have I felt more welcomed than with the smile of a guest house keeper. You don’t have to be lost in the middle of nowhere either, Mas Latour Lavail is situated just 15 min from the Perpignan center. This fully renovated traditional Catalan Mas (farmhouse) places the emphasis on modern comfort & design mixed with traditional materials. Lionel Lavail, director of the great Cazes wine house in Rivesaltes, wanted to restore this Catalan Mas of the 16th century where he’s grown as a child. The 3 rooms and 2 suites proudly bear the name of a Vin Doux Naturel and propose a unique decor integrating the colours of the wines with which they are associated. Clever linked to the historic win industry of the region. The suites offer a panoramic view on the vineyards and the Spa “Le Vieux Pressoir” was created in the old vats of wine. You may take the time to plunge in the private swimming pool or relax on the terrace. Don’t be just a room number, be a guest.

My wife and I stayed there 2 nights back in September for my birthday. We had a great time. The hotel is an old farmhouse from the 16th century that has been remodeled a couple years ago. There are only 5 rooms so if you like boutique hotels Mas Larour Lavail is for you. Vanessa (the host) will take care good care of you and can guide you through the City and the surroundings. There is so much to do! We personally spent half a day wandering in the streets of old Perpignan then we headed to the coast, Collioure and Banyuls. We came back at night then back there again the flowing day. It’s only a 20mns drive from the hotel. The owner of the hotel (Lionel, hope you’re lucky enough to meet him’ he’s a very warm and welcoming person) is also the owner of 2 wineries. Domaine Cazes (down the street) and Clos de Paulilles in Collioure. We are into food and wine so each time we visit a region we always do a little wine tourism/tasting if possible. Anyways, back to the hotel. We stayed in the Muscat room, the yellow one. Rooms are big’ they look like small lofts with the bathroom and a den in the lower part and the bedroom upstairs. Bed, linens...everything is top quality. The location is also ideal because is 5mns from the « centre ville » of Perpignan but the hotel is in a very quiet neighborhood. Quiet nights guaranteed! If you’re in the area do yourself a favor and stay at Mas Latour Lavail, you will not regret it. We are going back to France next year and we will definitely stay there again.

In our trip through France and Spain this was our absolute favorite place to stay. It is beautiful and charming and so peaceful. Vanessa was the perfect hostess, checking us in and letting us know about all the amenities before leaving us to enjoy this beautiful place. We were sorry to be there only one night.

This farmhouse was perfect for our stay. It is very renovated, everything is extremely nice and clean. Rooms are very big and gorgeous. They serve breakfast for you which is very good. Croissants are unbelievable. The place feels like it is your home, as there are only 5 rooms total. The pool and amenities were perfect and the people are very kind and helpful. I do have one tip though. If they offer you the "secret" or handicap room, my advice would be not to take it. It is still nice and catered to handicap needs, but it doesn't smell to great as there are no windows able to open. Other than that this hotel was phenomenal.

Mas Latour Lavail is special. A 17th century mas fully restored with taste and a tendency to humble grandiloquence. The rooms are simply amazing and the kitchen is free for anyone to use. A pit stop at one of the numerous local veggies and fruit makers, and there you are feeling like the owner of the place, gorging on lovely vegetables and wine. Did i mention the owners are wine makers? You will never run out of good things here...
