We booked two rooms in this hotel for one night. We arrived at a secure carpark just outside the city walls. For €20 you can leave your car there, or you’ll be given details of where you can park your car in the new town. Your bags are taken to your rooms and it is a five minute walk to the hotel. It is worth paying for the parking. The reception area is welcoming and comfortable. There is a nice outdoor courtyard where you can take breakfast. Easy to get breakfast in the city too, which we did. The rooms we had were quiet and comfortable, though a little dated. The beds were comfortable. We took a junior suite which can cater for a family of four, and a second with a queen bed. Nice bathrooms. The staff were all friendly and professional. The location is absolutely fantastic. Last time I stayed in Carcassonne it was in the new town, and it makes a big difference being able to wander around early or late without the crowds. We’d very happily stay here again and recommend it.

We stayed at Hotel Donjon 8-11th March where we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who kindly spoke English with us when our limited French ran out. We arrived early from our flight and they helpfully held onto our suitcases until the rooms were ready, then moved them up for us. The rooms were beautiful with stunning views; comfortable and clean. The hotel bar is in the charming old original building and one of our fondest memories is spending time having an evening drink there after dinner. The hotel porter took us to meet our taxi on our way home and stayed with us until the taxi arrived; the porter was friendly and chatty, telling us about winters in the nearby mountains/hills. You couldn't ask for a better hotel location for the old city and stepping out the front door each day was like being transported back in time. We'd stay again in a heartbeat and hope things settle down so we can travel again and return soon.

Within the centre of La Cite it is ideal for exploring. Best when all the visitors have gone at night, exploring the streets and walls in the moonlight. Rooms warm and comfortable. Restaurant not fully open in low season but you can get Sunday lunch. Some good room deals to be had. Would return.

This is a great place to stay, the staff are very friendly, very helpful & obliging. The rooms are fine & clean. Their porters who drive you to & from the pick up point outside the medieval city are fantastic with a great knowledge of the area, all in all a fabulous experience, but the down side, a minor one, was the breakfast it was below par for a hotel of this standing. The coffee machine was poor, & the breads are not up to what you expect from French bakeries.

A wonderful experience! We were treated like beloved family--royal family--by the staff of the Donjon. We felt so welcome and appreciated. They upgraded our rooms for free even though we waited until the last minute to tell them we were traveling with our disabled mother. They treated her like a queen, gave her a terrific room, and gave us a lovely one with an incredible view of the citadel right next door. Every staff person was extremely warm and professional and speaks perfect English. A special shout out to Aicha and Vincent who went above and beyond. The rooms are lovely, charming; beds very comfortable; bathrooms more than adequate. The location is amazing. Even the parking situation is well-managed. Even though we chose to stay in the free rather than paid lot we were shown the utmost kindness, assistance, and respect in getting to and from. Highly recommend.
