Detailed Reviews
My partner and I spent the four days following Christmas travelling on Eurostar to Paris on a package deal that included this gem.
My first impression on approaching it from the road was simplicity and humble but when I went through the doors into the Foyer, it was the beginning of a classy experience.
As you come in the reception is to your left, it was a simple and straightforward experience with an introduction to the restaurant straight ahead. We did not choose to have breakfast but had we it would have cost €26 each.
The restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious. The Hotel puts on a complimentary afternoon Tea from 1430 to 1700 where one can partake of a selection of teas, coffee and a wide selection of patisserie in quiet and tasteful surroundings.
The Hotel has six floors, I would not say it was wheelchair friendly unless there were rooms I did not see on the first floor.
The elevator whilst charming is totally unsuitable for a wheelchair unless it can be folded up and the occupant stand for the upward and or downward journey.
Our room 202 was on the second floor and faced the road. It was very warm, even with the heating off!
The Hotel is a Clarin's Hotel and all the dispensers in the bathroom were clarins products.
The bathroom was compact, it would not suit a disabled person, the toilet was much too low and set in a tight spot between the lovely shower and the wall. This said it was spotless and contained a hairdryer and ample towels of differing sizes including a face towel each!
The shower is a large walk in variety, with a waterfall head set into the roof and a hand held shower unit for convenience. It is raised off the ground day about five inches and if you are a little unsteady on your feet could be lethal because the shower tray floor is very smooth. I was very careful going in and coming out.
The room sported a large TV wall mounted with ample English programmes. It had a large cupboard which also housed the easy to use safe and glass fronted refrigerator.
The bed was large and comfy, we found it a little too warm for comfort but otherwise well appointed.
Location wise the Hotel was easy access to the main streets and theatres of the Opera area. It took 15 minutes to walk to it from Gare du Nord and about 2 hours to walk back from the Eiffel Tower on account of the strike about pensions there was limited public transport.
There are plenty of places to eat around the Hotel.
The reception and other staff were helpful and efficient.
We enjoyed our stay here and would be happy, subject as above, to recommend it to you.

The Hotel LEchiquier Opera Paris is a very nice and beautiful hotel in a central location close to Montmartre, Louvre, Galleries Lafayette and Garnier Opera. It is very clean and quiet, and staff is very friendly. The rooms are very clean and comfy, and have fridge and kettle. The bathroom’s toiletries are all top range from Clarins that makes you feel very special! We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, but had dinner and room service and food was great! They beautifully decorated the hotel for Christmas and had a live singer and piano player on New Year Day - felt like a perfect first day of the year. A tourist tip - the hotel has a great authentic Parisian bakery nearby called Julhes for croissants and baguettes - highly recommend to try their different pastry and cakes.

You know the agony: should you bring your own hair dryer with you on vacation, or risk using the hotel’s? You could end up trying to style your hair with a dryer that appears to be run by squirrels.
But not at this hotel. And that, my friends, is a metaphor for our experience there.
We bookended a river cruise with stays at this hotel. It is a beautiful space, and the rooms are comfortable and quiet. The bathroom is modern and well-stocked (including the aforementioned hair dryer, a veritable Porsche of hair dryers!). The breakfast, though pricey (26E pp), had an excellent range of choices. My only complaint is that the rooms were both very warm, we couldn’t get the thermostat to cool it down enough and had to sleep with the windows open (it was still quiet btw).
The front end of our trip was awesome: excellent guidance on restaurant choices, professional and helpful front desk staff. I want to call 2 staffers out by name: Hoda and Shawn, who got me through a MasterCard disaster that left us high and dry on cash.
The back end of our trip was not as great as the first— things seemed not as crisp (housekeeping forgot to clean our room, then ignored a written note on the bed (in French) asking for more towels), front desk forgot to order our 6:30 am taxi to the airport, also struggled to print out our bill, the front desk guy who checked us in seemed annoyed by my questions about COVID testing, etc.). But again kudos to Hoda who came through with a reservation for the BEST RESTAURANT of our entire trip.
I wish I could give 5 stars to Hoda and 4.5 for the hotel, because they were near perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at the L'Echiquier Hotel. The staff were very helpful especially when my husband needed assistance after a traumatic experience on the Metro. The staff were able to get us in touch with banks etc and spent a good deal of time helping us to sort out our problem. The room was clean and comfortable with all the amenities we needed. There is a restaurant in the hotel which provided breakfast and dinner at a reasonable cost. We were within walking distance of the Metro and many restaurants and shopping opportunities.
We would happily stay here again!

Dear Chika52, We would like to thank you for leaving us such a nice comment. We are very glad that we lived up to your memories, as this is always quite challenging. We are perfectly located to enjoy a great trip in Paris. Our 38 Bar Lounge serves you very good refined dishes for reasonable cost but we also have quite a few very good restaurants in walking distance of the hotel. We are really sorry for your bad experience in the metro. Our team is obviously there for any help, our goal is always to make sure you have the best stay. We are available any time to book your next stay with us. Warmest regards, Hoda - Guest relation

Stayed for four nights over New Year’s. We arrived early after an overnight flight from New York and even though I requested early check in, we were told the room wouldn’t be ready until 2 pm. Had drinks, an early lunch and hit the Rodin Museum. Came back after 2 and the room still wasn’t ready. But they offered us two free drinks while we waited longer which was really only a couple of minutes. The hotel concierge was very responsive to my incessant questions around COVID testing, arranging an amenity for a friend’s birthday (which I had to retract since they canceled last minute), as well as holding a gift that a friend left at reception for our arrival. We stayed in a junior suite which was quite spacious with a separate deep soaking tub and rainfall shower. The only quirk with the room was that the bathroom door wouldn’t stay open on its own, so we used the slippers as a makeshift door stopper. We also couldn’t figure out how to turn the heat off in the room, but luckily it was quiet outside (we faced the courtyard) so we could sleep with the window open. Loved the Clarins products and the fact that they were not in individual bottles so more eco friendly.
We used the fitness room each morning which only had other guests the first morning. Protocol said only two people in the room at time, but there were four of us for a total of about 15 minutes. The other three mornings, we were the only ones. Small gym but there was chilled water and towels. Though no sanitizing products to clean the machines.
The location was pretty central to reach a lot of sites by walking including Musee d’Orsay and Musee de l’Orangerie as well as some great restaurants.
All of the staff that we interacted with were friendly and accommodating of my poor French. Even putting up with my angry husband when he couldn’t figure out how to type the reception email correctly in order to print out our negative COVID tests.
I would highly recommend the hotel and look forward to another stay.

Dear Michelle, We are thrilled to read your review! I cannot thank you enough for these wonderful words about the hotel and its staff. Our team at the reception is always at your disposal to offer you the best addresses as well as help on the realization of PCR test. Indeed, AccorHotels is committed to helping preserve the environment with the Planet21 program. At l'Echiquier, we focus on reducing waste and are proud for choosing Eco-Pump for Clarins Products. I take note of the lack of disinfecting wipes in our gym and the cleaning service will be more aware of this. All the team and i thank you sincerely for having the time to leave this fantastic comment. We hope to welcome you back very soon!! Warm regards, Hoda - Guest Experience Manager

Perfect stay for our family of 4 with two children. The location is ideal, only a couple of minutes walk from the metro with good quick connections to most of the tourist areas. We were also able to walk to the hotel easily from arriving in Paris at the Gare du Nord and found lots of good restaurants and cafés on the main road nearby. We were upgraded to two interconnected rooms which were ideal, with comfortable beds, and they were very quiet. The breakfast was superb, lots of choice and everything of very high quality. The staff were all welcoming and helpful, and very family friendly, eg. making our two children hot chocolate with straws at breakfast time. We'd love to stay here again next time we are in Paris.

The hotel is in a great location. The reception staff are very attentive and pleasant. The bar/ restaurant staff are equally pleasant too. We stayed in a superior double room which was spacious and very clean, over looking the street, which was ok, after all we are in a city. This can be a little noisy if the window is open at night. The only one disappointing thing for me, was that I’d have liked a drawer in the room to place underwear/socks. The breakfast is nice and lots of choice but the hot buffer was limited to scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon.
The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed the use of the Clarins products. There is tea/coffee available in the room which is of a very good quality.
There is a safe in the room which is one of the easiest ones I’ve ever used.
More hangers in the wardrobe, would be a bonus!!
I couldn’t fault the hotel.
Be very careful when travelling on the Metropolitan, make sure you don’t have your phone out on show and don’t be flashing any expensive jewellery.. keep your watch covered up or don’t where one at all. This is a great way to get around in Paris and a day ticket only costs €7.50.
The hop on/hop off river cruise is a great way to get around Paris too. This is around €19 for a day ticket.. we made use of this and it stops at all the popular attractions.
Have your wits about you whilst in Paris, as many cities across the world, there are pickpockets/opportunists around.
Fabulous place to shop, there is a nice part of Paris which is around 1.5miles from the hotel, here you’ll find lots of very nice expensive shops (bring your credit card with you!). This part is also home to the French Prime Minister!
There’s plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Dear Citychic007, It warmed my heart to find your lovely review of our establishment. Thank you for sharing it with TripAdvisor. Thank you for highlighting our prime location. We are definitely in a great area for restaurants, bars, public transport, shopping and much more. Guest satisfaction is our number one priority here at l'Echiquier Opéra Paris and it is a true pleasure to know we have made your time in Paris an enjoyable one. We took a note of the preference for more hangers in the room. We will do this in all our rooms in the future. There is no doubt that your beautiful tips will help many future travellers in the capital. We hope to welcome you again in the future and thank you for your recommendation. I am afraid I do not agree with all the glorious reviews of this hotel. It is very average for the price you pay and the service is poor. The rooms (even the superior ones) are very small (ok, ok, it is Paris), you pay the price tag for it and there are many other hotels in the same location. The big let down is actually the service: okish breakfast but nothing special, no coffee machines in the room, just cheap kettle, no towels (we had to ask them every single day to bring towels - I am sorry but is it so difficult?!), no ironing board (again you need to ask for it), no bottle opener, room not done by 5pm despite the sign on the door since 10am in the morning and I has even to ask for toilet paper (ridiculous). The bar downstairs has a nice Art Deco but again very pricey for what you get. I am not sure I would stay here again at all and not at the same price. As written in other reviews, they also tried to charge us some additional taxes and they got very unpleasant when I challenged them. Finally, they realized the mistake (as I already paid them) and refunded. The staff at the reception has no clue in how to run a hotel (also written in other reviews). Look for better options as the service is very poor.

Dear Giovanni S, First of all, please let me thank you for taking the time to share your comments on TripAdvisor further to your stay among us. Thank you for highlighting different aspects of l'Echiquier decoration and unique Belle Epoque architecture and of course the unbeatable location. I am deeply sorry that your stay has not been entirely up to your expectations. Let me just remind you that we dispose of larger rooms, such as in the Deluxe or Junior Suite category, where you can benefit of a very large bathroom, which often combines a shower and a bathtub and of course a large mini bar and a coffee machine. Rest assured that the issues outlined will be carefully reviewed and I hope to have the chance to meet you and make you change your mind upon one of your next trip to Paris. In the meantime, I remain at your disposal for any further information, Warmest regards, Hoda - Front Office Manager

I was very excited to go as it was a present from my friend. Hotel located in a district with plenty entertainment and food options. The room is of a good size, but nothing compared to asian 4* hotels. The biggest problem was the stuff however, they showed a really poor attitude. There was a special arrangement booked for the room and they kept on giggling about it which didnt give any relaxing welcoming feeling. Also when I ordered a wine opener from the bar the guy came extremely annoyed. Wouldnt stay there again.

As Brits, we don’t mind a walk, so this was in a great spot, as we were in our room within twenty minutes of clambering off the Eurostar. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room wasn’t small, the bed was very comfortable and I’m in love with Clarins so thoroughly enjoyed their products. Breakfast was excellent and varied and we loved the free afternoon tea and cake too. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel which we booked as part of our Eurostar package.
