The Botleigh Grange Hote & Spa is a country house with the charm and character one would expect from a 17th century building. The property is set within 14 acres of mature grounds with its own lake. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with ensuites and a range of amenities. We are located on the edge of the historic village of Botley and only 15 miles from Winchester, with easy access to the M27 and M3 Motorways, a 15-minute drive to Southampton Airport, and a short journey to Southampton and Portsmouth. (Enquire about our long-term parking for cruise guests.) Our restaurant offers a range of traditional British fare, pub and grill classics, and our two bars are equipped with popular draft selections. The property’s various function rooms are fully equipped to cater to weddings, conferences, other celebrations and corporate events. Business clients can take advantage of our board room for meetings. Our indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and fitness room are currently accessible.

Looking at the reviews, we thought this might be a good place to stay the night before our cruise ship left the port of Southampton so we booked a room. It was a very warm day (for the UK) and we weren't surprised that there was no air-conditioning, but we were given a fan that made things work well enough. Our first room we were given had a window view that looked out over a roof that was littered with beer cans and cigarette butts ~ not too attractive. We were given another room that was better as far as the view was concerned but still looked out over a roof. It was not a view of the grounds at all (back of the hotel). The rooms were big but the furniture was very threadbare and needing to be replaced, as well as the carpeting. The halls had the feel of days of glory with a lot of woodwork, stairwells that had the mysterious creaking sounds and giving your imagination some great food for thought.
The staff were all very helpful, and we were able to get a light snack from the bar even though the dining room was closed for the day. The breakfast the following morning was excellent with lots of choices.
It could be a beautiful place with its wealth of history but would need a lot of love, time, and money to restore it to a really wonderful place. The grounds also had a well worn look to them, unfortunately. I think we would try a different spot to stay on our next trip.

Group of 8 stayed on a Saturday night. This Hotel Group is obviously trying to bring the Botley Grange back to what it once was and have invested in renovating the rooms and guest areas. Two of our group used the pool etc and gave positive feedback. I booked rooms only as the reviews on here did not speak highly of the breakfast but two of our party had breakfast and no complaints. Staff are helpful and openly admitted the quality of the food depends on which of the two chefs were on duty. It’s an old building so don’t expect air conditioning and do expect the odd noise in the night from the building. Rooms and hotel were very clean overall but needs attention to detail as cobwebs festooned the light fittings. Whoever does their laundry work is to be commended they definitely deserve praise. The hotel is used as a base for the cruise ships so car parking can be busy. Overall I would recommend staying here. Only major negative was they nearly charged us double for one of the rooms as two of our party stayed over on the Sunday night. Oh and rumour has it the ponds in the grounds are being cleaned and fishing may be possible soon

Dear Guest, Thank you for your detailed review and for choosing to stay with us at Botley Grange. We're thrilled that you and your group had an overall positive experience and appreciated the recent renovations, cleanliness, and the feedback from those who enjoyed our pool facilities. It's great to hear that our staff were helpful and transparent about the food quality, and we're glad that the breakfast met expectations despite initial concerns. We apologize for the oversight with the room charges and appreciate your understanding. Rest assured, we're addressing the issue to ensure smoother billing processes in the future. Your comments about the charm and quirks of our historic building are much appreciated, and we'll certainly take note of the need for more attention to detail, such as the light fittings. Thank you for the kind words about our laundry service—we'll pass on the praise to the team. Kind Regards, The Reception Team

Restaurant visit only

The staff were welcoming and friendly.
The food delicious and the wine tasty.
However, the Merot ordered was not in stock, and alternatives presented. We asked if the price was the same as the Merlot, and were told that it was.

When the bill came, we discovered that our wine was £7 more than the £22 we ordered. Added to that, the tap water ordered came in a bottle, at £3.50.

We had enjoyed the meal, and didn't want to make a fuss, but we didn't think it was completely fair. We pointed out the discrepancy, and expected some compromise. This was denied by the well hidden, Nick (assumed) to be the manager, who left his staff to implement his unyielding edict. What a shame! He did his staff out of a decent tip, and the restaurant out of another visit.

This hotel looks great and is well brochured from the outside, but inside its whole different story. All the rooms are in terrible disrepair with broken fittings, stains, no hot water, mould everwhere and the staff are cold, unfriendly, and hardly smile. Food was terrible and under cooked, bar was over priced and the spar/changing rooms and showers was disgusting. I was booked for 3 days, but I went elsewhere after one night - paid the bill, walked out and did some research. The poor food is explained by the fact that the kitchen was recently awarded a food hygene rating of 1 out of 5. Staff employement reviews are alarming! where it receives an extremely high turnover of staff and 'Indeed' rates the hotel as an employer 1.5 out of 5. And finally to top it all, I then discovered through the Gazette that the Hotel and Spar is under administration, however the same owners and management is in control - simply transferred the assetts to a different company name. This Hotel is in its death throes and really needs to be put out of its misery by the public, who's best advice is not to book any room or spend a single penny at this place.

I attended the same charity ball in November. We were a group of over 180 people all there to enjoy a fun night and raise funds for two local charities. The tickets were not cheap and covered the cost of the food and drinks package. The service provided on the night when things started to go wrong is certainly not worthy of 4 stars. After much prompting and questioning we found out there was a problem with the ovens - this followed starters taking over an hour to be served and still after a further 2 hours no mains and no apology. The response on the night was to extend the bar opening where we could purchase more drinks and a couple of pizzas were supplied. How can a hotel not have a back up plan for when things go wrong? Disappointment is an understatement. Added to which even after the event the follow up and aftercare has been completely unprofessional and to date no refund has been offered. Definitely a case of not caring and not supporting your local community.

We attended a charity event here of which we paid a small fortune for the 'meal'. The starter eventually arrived which consisted of a slither of smoked salmon and wilting rocket. After a wait of over an hour the mains arrived for some of us, again rubber chicken, which was cold and inedible, not sure what accompanied it as we just left it all. Others didnt get any food at all. Apparently the ovens had broken! The management did not handle the situation at all, and we have never received an apology or an offer of our money back. I am going to ask directly. The charities have also lost out on a substantial amount of money, due to the mis- management of the Botley Grange. I'm not surprised they are under investigation.

Absolutely fabulous!
From the booking, to the service, and food quality, EVERYTHING was 5 star.
Our server Nick was professional, but adaptable to light humour towards our group of four. An absolute gentleman. Thank you.
The afternoon tea was delicious and plentiful. Really impressed by the volume of clotted cream for the scones, no stingy portions!
The table was decorated with flowers cut from the garden, a white tablecloth and perfectly clean cutlery, glasses and crockery.
I would highly recommend the venue for afternoon tea, and made even sweeter by the purchase of a Groupon voucher that made the visit totally affordable as a treat for those who like to lunch out.

We booked the Foord Room for a very special Afternoon Tea for 18 ladies, to celebrate an 80th Birthday. Prior to the event, we received excellent service from Chelsea, who answered all our emails promptly and accommodated all our requests. On the day, the long table in the Foord Room was laid with crisp white tablecloths, which we decorated with floral arrangements and confetti. Our guests were made to feel very welcome by the attentive waitresses, who worked very hard to ensure everyone was happy. The sandwiches were very fresh and tasty, the scones were warm and the cakes and pastries were very pretty and tasty. We were offered numerous cups of tea as well as still, sparkling and flavoured water. We also enjoyed Prosecco and Nosecco to toast the birthday girl. Two of our guests were coeliacs and the chef really treated them to a fabulous tea, they said it was one of the best they had ever had! It was a very successful afternoon, all thanks to the excellent organisation by Chelsea and her team and also the chef. We are very grateful to everyone at the hotel - we have made some fabulous memories. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that the 80th birthday celebration in our Foord Room was such a special occasion for you and your guests. It's fantastic to know that Chelsea and the team provided excellent service from start to finish, ensuring all your requests were met and making the day memorable. We're glad you enjoyed the fresh sandwiches, warm scones, and beautiful cakes, and that your guests were well taken care of, especially those with dietary needs. It’s heartwarming to hear that the coeliac guests had such a positive experience with their afternoon tea. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we’re so pleased that you left with wonderful memories. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Thank you for choosing us to be part of this special day!

We booked the hotel for my 60th birthday party with 40 guests. With most of the guests being local, the hotel offered the perfect venue plus a great value room rate for those travelling from further afield.

In the run up to the party all of our queries and requests were handled quickly and professionally by Tracey. Her willingness to meet us on site; usually at a moment’s notice, was really helpful.

Nick and his team who were on duty for the party were fantastic and couldn’t have done anything else to make our guests feel more welcome and looked after throughout the evening.

The buffet was superb. Without exception, everybody loved it. The boxing up of the food later in the evening was a lovely touch and, given the lack of any leftovers, certainly went down well.

The impromptu ghost tour for the “kids” (and a few adult interlopers!) was really appreciated. I’m only sorry I missed it!

Our guests who stayed at the hotel were very complimentary about the rooms and the included breakfast.

It’s still relatively early days for the hotel’s much-anticipated relaunch, but based on our experience, they are well on their way and deserve every success as they open up more of the rooms and facilities in 2024.

If you’re looking for a venue with bags of character and a team who will look after your every need, then look no further than The Botleigh Grange.

We had travelled down from Cumbria to meet family on the South Coast, so location and value for money were the chief considerations.

If we had gone on the reviews we might not have booked!

It has very recently been taken over by the Excelsior Hotel group who have immediately invested in the hotel.

Got to meet some of the new management team and new cook. They shared their insights for exciting plans for the hotel.

Can only say we have high standards as we are B& B hosts ourselves...our room, facing the front of the hotel was immaculate. The decor was in keeping with the style of a country house.

It was fresh, bed extreemly comfortable, shower was powerful and responsive.

Room was spacious.

The bar was well stocked and very characterful.

We met our Grandson and family out in the garden. It was tidy.

All of the services are not up and running yet, I gave the 5 stars because the staff were very helpful, attentive and the atmosphere was very relaxing.

I shall be returning and will be looking to hold future events from here.

I'm happy to recommend for travellers and corporates, cruise ship passengers. So much better value for money than the chain hotels in Southampton.

..........Update from last answer, the hotel has finally been closed down by the administrators and not taking bookings. In the meantime a new buyer is being sought. One potential buyer has proposed to honour all wedding bookings, but will not honour the rooms booked for guests. I've no doubt the hotel will be bought, but it'll take a brave soul to try it under new ownership.

This hotel is not as it was in 1969 . It’s had the life sucked out of it by best western. Then sold on in the last year. It makes money by holding proms hence chairs in the lake and crowd control barriers laying around the front of hotel. Not even put away between events. There were bottles laying around the gardens glasses and rubbish. The place is a tip. The grounds are a disgrace. The beds a stained old and worn out. Room furnishings, old faded tiered and broken. The food served st breakfast was shocking. Tea kept hot in flask . This is not a cheap night away. Shut it down
