The room overall was very good, but it was the check-inn I was most impressed with, as the lovely receptionist (Natalie) was delightful and every time I saw her she had the most gorgeous smile which lit up her eyes. The wee break we had was for my husband's birthday, and it didn't disappoint as we were welcomed with a card and vouchers for a drink and snack each. This hotel is fabulous and great value for money, but again it is Natalie who made our stay special. Keep up the good work as it was faultless.
Beds were comfortable and the room was clean! The bathroom was also clean. We gave a 5, but one negative thing was the size of the room. We were 4 people, with medium size luggage. We had a double and a sofa bed and there was very little room to walk. The location is great! Walking distance from stores, restaurants and historic sites. Breakfast was good with many choices. The staff was friendly. At check out, the taxi we had reserved to take us to the airport took another passenger and the young lady at the front desk immediately made sure another taxi was on the way, thank you!!
Another pleasant stay at this centrally located hotel. Friendly staff on reception and we were able to get into our room at 930am. We asked for a room on higher floor which we got in new annex 4th floor but unfortunately just looked into side of original hotel should have mentioned a view on top floor. Room very clean and cosy. Lots of usb points and sockets. Clean bathroom and good sized shower. Very comfy bed had great sleeps during our 3night stay. Enough tea and coffee to do but can get more at reception. We knew breakfast got busy but we always managed to be down before 8 when a bit quieter. Plenty to choose from hot and cold buffet but please please could we maybe have veggie sausages or hash browns for non meat eaters amongst us.
Great Hotel for a reasonable cost , very friendly staff , clean rooms with comfortable beds , fabulous location for the Edinburgh Playhouse , great bar service and very good breakfast which is included in the room rate. You won’t bet a better hotel if your going to the theatre for the price .
We enjoyed a childfree night our stay was lovely. The hotel is spotless and smells so clean throughout. We had a nice spacious room. Thank you for making us feel welcome. We will stay again next time we are in Edinburgh:)
Very disappointed with the room we were allocated (117). Small and cold. Felt like it was an ‘after thought’ room, a sort of “quick, we have extra guests, where can we squeeze in two beds”. The heating was through the air con unit and eventually blew warm air into the room but it didn’t make that much difference and was noisy. Breakfast is functional and filled a hole but is busy - sit downstairs it’s quieter. Get your coffee from upstairs though. They will provide gluten free cereal and toast, you have to ask for it. Good location for Playhouse, Princes St, St Andrew Square for the tram stop (York Place is currently closed) and the Red Bus Tour buses.
Three very weary and disoriented travellers, diverted from Gatwick by snow, arrived here at 0100 this morning. We had tried to book online once we realised that we'd be stuck until the morning. Chris, the overnight supervisor, was on his own. The phone was ringing off the hook and he was dealing with superlative calm with an abusive and somewhat inebriated guest. He told us that the hotel was full and my booking was for the next day. We must have looked completely bereft. The phone was ringing off the hook, as other stranded travellers looked for rooms. He somehow made it happen. I have no idea how, but we were given a room with sofa bed and enjoyed a great breakfast the next morning before getting our train back down south. Thank you Chris: I hope you're valued by your colleagues.…
Nice hotel very clean, rooms are spotless and big. We were in 421 and 419 nice view and very quiet. Same as other HI express hotels, but has everything you need. Good breakfast not vast but enough, fresh and plentiful. Staff all excellent nothing was a bother to them. Prices in the bar not cheap for what we bought but it was nice and peaceful so happy to use it. We were able to keep our bags in the bag store before we got into our rooms and after we checked out very handy. For a city centre hotel the price wasn't too bad. Good location and even better if you are at the playhouse. The only concerns I had was anyone could walk in at anytime and go to any floor without confrontation. For a busy area like this I would think hotel key cards should be used to get past reception area. Plus they didn't check our tickets matched the bags we removed from the bag store. But its a great central hotel with very helpful staff I would recommend and definately stay again.…
Reasonable priced, service was good, room was good. Apart from being facing a stairwell we could hear people walking up and down constantly, the other bad point is that the pillows are really not nice to sleep on, Location very good. Lots to go. Easy to walk straight into old town without being in the chaos. Breakfast busy and you do not have to book, fast turn around so you end up getting a seat, overall I would recommend staying here
Booked for 2 nights last weekend but due to rain and flooded tracks, we ended up in Newcastle for the first night due to no trains heading any further. The hotel acknowledged our email quickly when we let them know our issues and didnt charge us for the first night. We arrived at noon on Saturday. Bora on reception recommended places for tea and places to visit and is an asset to the hotel. Positive attitude, helpful and interested in our plans.
