2022 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Fingal opened in January 2019 in the historic Port of Leith as a unique addition to Edinburgh’s hotel scene following a £5 million development. This former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, begins an exciting new chapter offering beautiful cabins, dining and entertaining space. Developed by The Royal Yacht Britannia, Fingal’s 23 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by her rich maritime heritage. Sleek corridors lined with lighthouse images lead to the choice of cabins, from a luxury cabin with access to the deck, a duplex cabin with comfortable living space or the stunning Skerryvore Suite with extensive outdoor space to relax and entertain. Carefully considered design offers the highest specifications of craftmanship and finish, with nautical touches and polished woods. Sumptuous Scottish leathers and the finest linens are in colour palates inspired by Fingal’s journey from land and sea.

Dear B9172EMkirstenl, Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent stay aboard Fingal. We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your time with us. During the 5-year restoration project, only the finest materials sourced locally and from around the world were used. There are a number of nautical touches around the ship, tapping in to the rich history of Fingal as a former Lighthouse Tender. We are extremely proud of our passionate and dedicated crew, it is always a delight to hear how they have impacted our guests stays. Our Galley team use only the best of local ingredients and suppliers, this is reflected in the quality of the dishes they produce. We hope to welcome you back in the near future. Kind Regards, Morven Shaw Guest Relations Manager

A high-end hotel, and a surprisingly fine dining experience, all in a pretty unique setting, a ship converted to a high standard but retaining a lot of character - eg interesting old photos and engineers' logbooks on the old bridge, from its past as a lighthouse tender. Very comfortable bedroom (but you'd probably need to master the aircon system in the warmer months), well appointed bathroom, and a quiet location - although the trams will be nearby when they start running. Easy access to the city on reliable bus routes, plus loads of great eating and drinking options in Leith itself. But above all, the staff deserve the most praise - combining polished professionalism with an easy, approachable style. Complimentary tickets for the Royal Yacht were a nice bonus too. It was a significant anniversary stay for us, and Fingal was as good as we'd hoped.

Where do I begin! From the arrival to departure our stay was truly outstanding. A beautifully luxurious and unique experience, coupled with the most amazing service and care. We stayed in a luxury duplex cabin and enjoyed breakfast, dinner and a trip to Royal Britannia (which is an absolute must). The dinner was exceptional fine dining, nothing was too much trouble and the food was very high standard. The breakfast was delicious and abundant. The cabin was another level of luxury with lovely details such as chocolates, biscuits and a vast array of lovely toiletries. The team make this place, the knowledge and un fussy service made everything and everyone feel valued, important and cared for. I simply could not fault it and will be visiting again in the future....

My husband and I stayed aboard the Fingal as part of a 35th anniversary trip. We also had cocktails and dinner onboard -- at the Lighthouse restaurant. The entire experience was enjoyable and memorable. Every care was taken, when the ship was transformed into a luxury hotel, to create an elegant, upscale environment. The rooms are appointed with everything one could possibly need. Even though space is used efficiently, one never feels cramped. All the materials -- from the polished wood floors to the beautifully tiled bathrooms -- are impressive and visually appealing. The crew -- who are first rate in every regard -- are immensely proud of the ship, and rightly so. I love the fact that those who refurbished the ship left parts of the old engine room open to view behind glass. Those of you who love ships will enjoy this especially. The Alexandra Dock area was quiet and we slept well (the ship does not roll at all). And dinner was a joy: superb service, brilliant cocktails, and and world class wine list. And (just in case you're concerned about it), the Fingal has an elevator to lift you and your luggage up and down from the lobby. It really was a very special time for us, aboard a beautiful ship that is now an amazing hotel-- and located in one of the most stunning, and fascinating cities in the world.

We stayed on the Fingal over the weekend of the 24 March, The staff were unbelievable attentive to detail in all areas from greeting you to, food and drinks and the rooms. The rooms are fantastic and welcoming with all amenities that you need for a stay. The food was to die for it was absolutely fantastic and the attention to detail when serving your food and drink was incredible and have never seen such detail from any restaurants before. I would highly recommend to stay and add the trip to the Royal Yacht Britannia as well. If visiting Edinburgh it is worth spending that but more for a different experience.

Has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. From the moment we were met at the door on the quayside to the time we left, the staff were superb, the facilities were excellent and the food was top class. 5* from us. My wife had the most memorable 60th birthday. The staff went over and above to make it an amazing stay.

Great experience. My partner loves boats so it was treat for his birthday. Food was excellent with extremely friendly and obliging staff. Part of the experience of being on board was the feeling of being on a moving ship due to to curvature of the floor as you walk.
