Detailed Reviews
Very quiet when we arrived with the main gift shop being shut. This was disappointing as it is, in my opinion, the Jewel in the crown for this service area. It did eventually open up at 10:15 – a tad late IMHO but did get some business from us..
The place didn’t have any of the normal vibes I have come to expect from this location and like most other service areas, the ‘High St’ big brands abound - with exception of the excellent gift shop, of course.
Clean and bright however.

I stay here frequently. The rooms are basic and in need of a refurbishment, especially the bathrooms.
But they have enough room and are always scrupulously clean - even the dog friendly rooms. The beds are really comfortable and the water pressure is good.
The staff are really friendly.
I have an electric car, so it’s perfect for me as there are loads of chargers at the service station.
A good budget option.

Called in for a mid journey snack.
It was very busy so we decided on the KFC.
Tables were left uncleared/unwired and generally untidy etc
Our food was cold when we got it and I had to use a hand full of napkins to wipe the table.
Sorry, but not happy

Didn’t say here but they offered assistance when I glanced a high kerb in the services carpark ripping the front skirt of my car. I tried about 20 motorist to see if they had a screw driver to remove the broken skirt nobody had one. My friend approached the lodge to see if the maintenance man (Garry) had a screw driver.
A few minutes later he turned up at my car. Looking at the damage he immediately got down and removed ghe offending skirt without hesitation. He then refused any recompense for his trouble. I cant thank him enough. He was such a hero he waited till I tested the car before he left. Thank you Garry youve renewed my faith in human nature. Thank you again

As aging adults who used to be able to drive for eighteen hours with 2 hourly 20 minute breaks, we could drive from our home to London or to our daughter in Mikton Keynes in one overnight drive, Now we are in our seventies, we find a 6 hour drive is the most ee can do in one day. Days Inn Gretna is tge udeal half way overnight stop over to sleep and revitalise for a simikar drive the next day.
We can take our dog with us.
A pleasant stay, but not of the exquite variety - value for money

No real meals, over priced chain franchises such as KFC, Starbucks etc, food to ridiculously expensive (cheapest sandwich in W H Smiths £3.90 and a Lunchable £2.35). Fuel 25pence per litre more than the local village station and untidy approach roads. Advice regarding food but not fuel is use Cairn Lodge further north.

The service station has a Starbucks, burger king, kfc, Harry ramsdens, wh smith, toilets, showers.
We ate at Harry ramsdens, kfc and burger king.
Harry ramsdens is expensive and the food is hot, it is quieter to sit here than to sit outside in the main area. However, the staff are grumpy, particularly the older woman with brown hair.
KFC is a massive wait, 25 minutes I waited for a chicken fillet box meal, 4 people were in front of me and it was not busy at all.
Burger king is much more efficient and value for money. The service is faster and the food good.

One day I will find a motorway service station, somewhere, that doesn't rip me off in pricing (even though its situated in a position that makes replenishment easier than anywhere else). One day. If I live that long. Meantime they are all of an average, of which Gretna is slightly above bar. Clean enough in general, toilet facilities very good. 2 cups of coffee and two (dry) cakes in Starbucks - that'll be £12.00 please. The Scots gift shop is a pleasing diversion.

We went for a KFC and were told they don't accept the app, because it's owned by Welcome break....as we planned our overnight stop there and wanted to use up our special deals , this was very disappointing. .
The food hall was very clean and tidy
