I usually stay at the Indigo but was given a lacklustre room last time, so chose the AC as it is near plenty of shops and bars, plus it was near to my conference I was attending.

I had a Queen sized room with view and it didn’t disappoint. All the facilities, toiletries and a Nespresso machine. Great view and plenty of space. Would have just liked a few more hangers and a mirror above the table so it would make doing my hair easier... but that is all. Robes, slippers, iron and ironing board all included and my room was clean and well maintained throughout my stay.

If you pre book breakfast the day before it is a few pound cheaper, and again it was a lovely selection of hot and cold buffet. The fruit is fresh and not out of a tin which was a joy, plus lovely generous glasses for your fruit juices, which makes a change!

You can park at the Mailbox parking and walk through (it’s not far) and you give your parking ticket to reception, upon checkout and they implement a 15% discount. For two days my parking was around £36.

The hotel was great value for money and I will go back there again next year. I should also mention that all the staff are friendly and helpful too.

In February we stayed at the Hyatt Regency which I was not impressed with. This time we stayed at the AC Marriott having stayed at one in Cape Town last December.

This hotel was good being situated at the Canalside situated with so many restaurants around it and with the Mailbox adjacent.

Our room was lovely a good size and the shower in the bathroom was perfect in terms of hot water. Whilst the hotel is described as a 3 star I would say it's more than a 3 star. The room had a hairdryer and an ironing board and iron with delightful smelling toiletries.

The gym was adequate and there is a Starbucks attached to the hotel. I liked this hotel in terms of decor and on the right side of being hip and the staff were friendly.

The only slight gripe I have is our room (208) was located where in the morning (7am) there was alot of noise outside.

But nevertheless, reasonable rates and nice enough room..... definitely worth booking this hotel.

This was the first time coming back to this hotel for a leisure trip since covid started here in the UK. Never failed to impress again, we had a lovely view on the top floor all the way down the canal. During check in Albert was very good and friendly made us feel welcome from the start, leaving luggage here before check in and check out was ideal for us and also our room was ready 1 hour early. Very clean room can tell they’re taking covid seriously, supplied with hand wipes in room too. Recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Birmingham, amazing location, restaurants, bars all on your doorstep.

Stayed here recently after being moved from our planned reservation at an IHG hotel nearby. The welcome was excellent and checked in brilliantly and found our room.

Everything was set up nicely for social distancing and we and other guests used the sanitizer provided and while its a little different was pretty straightforward.

Room was the normal business type thing, they're all the same. Shower though had poor water pressure and we both showered in the evening and morning and it was just appalling.

You get two plastic cups in your room, 2 tea bags, 2 coffee sachets and 2 sachets of milk which meant trying to enjoy a few drinks in your room is pretty hard. Both milks though were out of date so meant either black tea or ringing housekeeping. Felt we were being rashioned!

Room was quite noisy and there was lots of banging around 6-7am which was disappointing.

Our breakfast was OK, but croissants were not edible, we ordered a couple of sausage baps with ketchup and I took all our items back to the room, but again the ketchup sachets were out of date. Felt like they'd just got everything out the store room and not checked dates on things. I know we have to adjust to Corona times but seems some of the basics were missed.

We won't stay here again.

Dear gxm158 Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at AC Hotel Birmingham. I am really pleased to hear that you appreciated the safety measures we have implemented at the hotel. During the reopening process we had reviewed all of our procedures, stock and standards. I am very disappointed to hear that we missed a couple of these basic items, and will be sure to go back and double check these items. I hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back soon to demonstrate that this was a one-off error. Thank you once again, Kind Regards, Simon Barratt General Manager

I stayed here on a Friday night having been travelling with work and was offered to upgrade to a superior room for £5 extra which seemed like a good deal to me. The room was lovely with a massive bed, great bathroom, Sky TV, Nespresso machine, bathrobes and a cracking view of the canals.

I also used the gym in the morning which was small but served its purpose (although I did feel a bit like a goldfish as people walked past!).

Unfortunately I've knocked a couple of stars from this review as the noise that travelled into my room from the various bars below was unacceptably loud. In all honesty I'd rather have had a standard room if it meant I'd have been able to sleep before the bars shut late at night. It seemed like the windows to the room had absolutely no insulation as I could actually hear word for word some of the loud conversations that were being had outside of the bars. If the hotel could sort out the noise then this hotel would have been faultless.

We arrived at this hotel and despite the high cost of the room were extremely disappointed with the amenities in the room. The pillows were blood stained and other dubious stains on the bed linen, but were rectified on our mention ar the front desk on our departure for the evening. Only 2 bottles of water provided for a 2 night stay and a sliver of soap and minimal.

Toiletries provided. Certainly not enough for a double room.. We havve stayed in very many Marriot hotels and this is seriously the worst we have ever stayed in. We were allocated a late checkout with our status with Marriot, but our room was opened and entered by a housekeeping member whilst we were still in the room, without knocking or mentioning an entrance.

The staff at the front desk were totally unconcerned at our issuers and there was no cocairge or e luggage room to leave our cases. The person on the front desk drugginly put them behind her, which was not at all secure.

We also guaranteed the stay with my husbands credit card, which we were disgusting which to use and the amount was taken from his card without his secondary authority . This is illegal and I will report it to the credit card issuers as has never been done before. This was actually sn offence and illegal and has never been accepted before and we will report to th relevant authorities

You are a complete sub standard and less than second rate hotel and a complete disgrace to the Marriot brand.

Please also train your front house staff in customer care and manners.

Dear Janet M Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback. May I initially apologise for the experience you have described, this is far below the usual level of hospitality we endeavour to deliver for our guests. Whilst Marriott has many brands, varying from luxury to lifestyle, you may experience differing standards through these brands, such as concierge. That said, we pride ourselves on delivering outstanding customer service and a clean, welcoming & relaxing environment. I am very sorry to learn that we have failed on this occasion, which is greatly disappointing, will be investigated & actions implemented to resolve this urgently. With regards to the payment, after investigating, the receipt shows the bill was verified by pin code. There was no pre-authorisation applied, so no secondary authority required. I would very much like to resolve this matter for you, and am extremely disappointed that the standard you experienced was not to the usually high level delivered here at the AC Hotel by Marriott in Birmingham. If you would like to email me directly so that we may discuss the matters further, on simon.barratt@acbirmingham.com Many Kind Regards, Simon Barratt General Manager

This hotel is perfect! The interior and facilities are modern and contemporary. The entire public area and bedroom was spotlessly clean and sanitised, and the hotel had great safety measures in place against covid-19. The location could not be any more perfect... right in the centre on the Mailbox, next door to all of the bars and restaurants. But what makes the hotel is the AMAZING STAFF! they made us feel like we were at home. I have to give a special mention to Beatrix from breakfast, and Jayne and Albert from reception. These team members are an asset to the hotel - the best in the business at their jobs :) thank you to the entire Hotel team for making our stay amazing, and making us feel safe against the virus. We will definitely be back soon!

Chose to visit the AC Marriott at the Mailbox in Birmingham because they had positive review regarding gluten free. Being coeliac and dairy free means I have to be super careful so I checked by calling the hotel before booking to check they could accommodate a GF/DF breakfast. They assured me they could so I booked and stated the need for GF/DF breakfast on the reservation. Just to be save I also rang a couple of days before arriving and spoke with Daniel at length about whether they had GF/DF bread that could be toasted in a separate toaster or toaster bag to avoid cross contamination and what options I could eat, he assured me I could eat all these things. When I arrived and checked in, the young man at reception tried to sell me breakfast even though it was already ordered and paid for. I repeated that I had dietary requirements and had spoke at length with Daniel about it. We went to our room and had a very poor nights sleep on thin lumpy mattresses. The linen was clean but was marked and mine had holes. The room was clean but a bit scruffy. I was disappointed as the reviews led me to believe this would be excellent, it wasn't. Came down to breakfast and they had fruit and one 30g bag of corn flakes that I could eat. They said nothing else was safe for even though I had called twice before check in and included the requirement on the reservation. What really grated was that it was the same person Daniel who had assured me that I could eat toast and bacon and eggs etc safely who told this lovely young girl to tell me I couldn't safely eat anything. I am furious and will be writing to head office. If they had been honest, I'd have just booked elsewhere. This isn't cheap and it's not worth it!

This hotel is situated in a great location along the Docks in Birminham City Centre right next to the BBC and few restaurants. On arrival, staff were very warm, welcoming and friendly, so important, I barely even remember check in process but I know it was quick. I travelled with my partner on a business / personal trip and we booked a Deluxe room without view of Docks, didnt really need the view as it was only for 1 night. Room was modern and clean. Only issue was lamp on desk was not working...I like lamps so wasnt happy as I dont like bright lights, 1 bulb in bathroom mirror wasnt working and lastly the Cast facility on TV was not working despite multiple tries for over an hour so couldnt cast from my tablet on TV even though I followed instructions exactly how it was displayed on screen. Couldnt be bothered to call anyone for help as I didnt want any staff in my room as I was relaxed. Bed was ok comfort, not the best but still had a good sleep. Breakfast was ok, fair selection, could have been alot quicker though with making omlette, by the time my omelette came, the rest of the food on my plate got cold. All in all, if you need to stay somewhere for a weekend or night or 2, this hotel is definately a good option, I would stay again.

I gave 3 stars, 1 for location as it's excellent 1 for cleanliness and 1 for friendly staff...A credit to the hotel
Where I think it lets itself down
Lack of water in room, had to go down to reception at 4 am and was given warm water
Didn't sleep a wink all night with the noise from the street below, it was at the back of the hotel
And finally the drink prices
£6.10 for a pint of lager... Seriously???
Breakfast was nice
Probably wouldn't stay here again as it was quite expensive for one night
