This was our third time staying at the Hotel Du Vin Stratford in the last couple of years. We had to rearrange our stay due to Covid and we were slightly apprehensive about staying in a hotel during the pandemic, but HDV Stratford has made a lot of effort to make the hotel Covid secure. We stayed in the Taittinger suite for the first time and it was incredible. As well as the large bedroom (with roll top bath tub) and bathroom, the room has a lounge and dining area. The room also has its own private entrance from the lobby and is situated in the attic of the main townhouse. It’s beautiful. Due to Covid, we asked if our afternoon tea could be served in our room. This was no problem at all and was delivered and left outside the room. Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious, had lots of choice and served with champagne. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was great as always. Due to Covid your continental breakfast order is now taken at the table, as well as your hot choice from the menu. I can’t recommend HDV Stratford enough, the staff are fantastic and make you feel really welcome and it’s just a wonderful place to stay.…
On the whole we had an enjoyable visit; the room was good with a large comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. The food in the restaurant was excellent with a good choice but having booked dinner, bed and breakfast it wasn’t at all clear what was included in our deal. The ‘Specials’ had to be paid in full with no allowance for the fact we had paid for dinner; this was disappointing. Covid measures in place were not the best we’ve experienced. On the second evening a couple came into the restaurant without masks and they were shown to a table right next to us even though there were plenty of unoccupied places. They then walked close to our table, unmasked, to go out for a smoke. We felt so uncomfortable we asked to move table and did receive an apology but it did somewhat spoil our meal. At checkout I queried the bill and was told it was not correct and amended. At home I checked again and still thought I had paid too much (this was due to having booked DB&B) and received another refund. In my opinion it was totally unacceptable to get an incorrect bill twice. This was our first trip since February as we had been shielding and the incident in the restaurant, as well as problems with the bill spoilt what otherwise was a pleasant stay. I have stayed in many hotels and eaten in many restaurants and it is normal practice to offer some form of compensation when things go wrong but this company clearly doesn’t adopt this policy. …
We stayed here for 1 night a couple of weeks go and really enjoyed our stay. We had upgraded to a deluxe room, would definitely recommend this- there was so much space and there was even a bath in the room. Our food in the restaurant was lovely, would recommend the steak hache and burger. We had used a gift voucher to book the stay however I noticed this was not taken off the bill. I asked at reception who weren’t sure about this so advised me to ring the bookings helpline. I rang up and this was solved promptly and the money refunded. Overall a great stay, will definitely be returning to Hotel du vin.
A long weekend away before Lockdown 2.0 - excellent location, very comfortable and spacious room (worth paying a little extra for a deluxe room), polite and friendly staff, prompt service and delicious food. Just one criticism - lighting in the entrance to the room was inadequate with just one small ceiling light.
We had the Taittinger Suite. A bit of a climb, which my husband who has arthritis in his knees and who smokes, so had to go downstairs to do so might have appreciated knowing on booking Fabulous suite, but really poor lighting. It really was so dark. I assume they had removed lamps due to Covid They were really Covid responsible, the bar was great, I recommend the la pasion cocktail if you like chilli heat, but the kitchen wasnt brilliant for room service or breakfast. I think they were too over worked. I would love to try them again after this is all over
