We travelled from Scotland for a golfing break at the Close House Resort and it was well worth the journey.

The Court House accommodation was very comfortable with both the bedroom and bathroom furnished to a high standard. The food in the clubhouse was very tasty and provided good value for money. The service by the young team of servers was friendly and efficient.

The Colt course is right up there with the best and provides a stiff but fair challenge. It was in fantastic condition and the large undulating greens were smooth and true. There is a good variety of holes which hold your interest throughout the round. The views from the higher holes down the Tyne valley are stunning.

All in all a very enjoyable golf break and one we would certainly recommend.

We have stayed in some beautiful hotels but the room we had at close house was the nicest by far. The door opens to a large lounge with huge corner sofa, this leads to a big bedroom with super king size bed. An en-suite leads from the bedroom which must be the size of my lounge at home!! It had a large walk in shower and a massive free standing bath. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable and lovely touches like three options for lighting which you can control from the lounge or bedroom. The restaurant is in the club house which is 5 minutes walk away in a lovely setting with views of the golf course. The food was delicious and plentiful.

We’ve been blown away that a hotel on our doorstep can be so nice and will definitely look to come back soon.

We have just returned from a stay and play at this venue.
Turning up at a stunning golf shop/bar upstairs was a pleasent surprise. We were greeted by brilliant staff who did everything to accommodate us as we were late coming down from Scotland.
We played the colt first. The course has held up well considering all the rain we have had. Loved most of the holes apart from 1 par 3 which had a terrible matt. Don't let that put you off as the rest of the course is stunning. After the round we went back to check into our room, again the staff who had changed were brilliant explaining everything in detail.
Entering the room we were amazed how big the room was for what we payed, it was big and very very clean. Beds were comfy and bathroom was huge.
Went for a meal at the 19th and had a nice selection off the select menu both having different meals and both saying how good the meals were.
Next day we went down for breakfast and had a lovley choice again and it too was tasty well cooked and looked good.
Playing the filly course today which was flatter we didn't know what to expect after the pleasure of the colt. We were pleasantly surprised, the first 5 or 6 holes you had to shape the ball as they were all doglegs. If they were a straight hole bunkers protected them.

All in all we had a great experience and that was due to the staff and the courses. Would like to thank th all and we will be back next year.

I stayed here on the 4th of July with my boyfriend for one night. There was a sign at reception saying check in time had changed from 3 to 4 and check out from 11 to 10. A 2 hour reduction in a 1 night stay without prior notice was not acceptable. The room was gorgeous and exactly how it was presented online. We had an issue with the hot water as it wasnt working, the phone in the room was disconnected so I phoned reception from my mobile (the rooms are in a seperate building to the reception) They said they would send someone to check. Rather than coming to my room they phoned me back on my mobile and said the water must be working as it was working in the room below. When I checked again it was working immediately (I had run the hot tap for 20 minutes prior and was ice cold in the bath, sink and shower) I would rather they just admitted they had forgot to switch something on after being closed for months rather than lying and would appreciate them coming to my room to check. This is a luxury hotel so was a little dismayed to discover the uht milk in the fridge was out of date so hadnt been changed since they closed in March. Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent.

First of all the positives…a fabulous courtyard room..very spacious and luxurious, with everything we could wish for supplied, although we were surprised that there was no USB port to charge phones and iPads. Luckily the lovely receptionist let us borrow her plug with a port. Thank you to her!
All was going well and we were looking forward to an enjoyable breakfast, when to our horror we discovered we could choose only one item from the breakfast menu. One! As someone who likes cereal, toast and juice for breakfast, I was not happy that I could have toast, but had to pay extra for the granola cereal.. no other choice of cereal by the way! The waitress had a word with someone senior who very kindly agreed that I could have the granola AND the toast at no extra charge! There was no juice on offer..we had to ask for it and while my husband was happy with his cooked breakfast, he too would have liked extra toast and cereal. On principle we were not prepared to pay for items we felt should be included in a bed and breakfast deal. The poor breakfast actually spoilt our stay as it is 50% of what you pay for on a break away.
I notice that another reviewer has also expressed their dissatisfaction at the breakfast, and no one on senior management has had the good manners to respond, which is appalling for a place such as Close House. It would be nice if I could get a response from them but feel they’re too busy catering for the golfers to respond to a couple who thought they’d enjoy a luxurious night away. A response would be appreciated!! I won’t hold my breath!

Had a 1 night pre christmas break with my wife here. Beautiful grounds as you drive in.
Reception is a little bit oddly placed in the golf shop, it should really be a bit more grand given the image of the club.
We are not golfers so didn't use the facilities but plenty of others were.
Huge rooms with amazing beds and bathrooms - absolutely could not fault that side of things.
Breakfast was great and the staff so helpful. Didn't appear to be any limit on what we could order, and all was incuded in the B&B rate.

Booking a golf stay package we got a good deal. The golf is excellent, the bedrooms showing age, ripped head board, dirty grout in the shower and the odd cobweb and the restaurant food lovely and reasonably priced but the service sadly lacking, the staff appeared to be kids, little knowledge and ‘thumbs on plates’ and girls twirling their hair then touching cutlery! Not what you would expect from a prestigious venue.

For the deal price fine but wouldn’t pay full price.

A rather lovely place. Of course expensive but, hey, if you want a quality cup of coffee in splendid surroundings when you're birdwatching in the Tynedale valley, then this is really quite special. It also appears that it has a quite magnificent golf course!

Myself and my friend has lunch here and what made the experience fabulous were the staff. I didn’t get his name unfortunately but one man put a parasol up for us as the sun was getting unexpectedly warm. He was so charming, helpful and kind that it really did make this place stand out as an outstanding place to be. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely lunch.

I gifted a little overnighter to my husband on Christmas morning as we had decided to not give thoughtless gifts of more stuff.
This hotel is only 25 minutes from our house but because its a golf hotel, I never really thought about staying.
The drive is pleasant and once you arrive on property and see how vast and well kept the golf course is, you can understand why its a golfing dream.

The rooms are located in the stable conversion and are large, it's a tiny bit corporate for me but they are definitely clean and well maintained. The bed was huge the most comfortable we have stayed in for a while and the bathroom was the size of a small apartment.
We were booked on a dbb deal and it was such good value.

We ate at No19 for both dinner and breakfast from the set menu and every item was amazing. No complaints at all, the restaurant is beautiful and the location perfect. Our waitress Kim on the evening was the loveliest lady, polite and natural, obviously loves her job and definitely put the effort in to make us feel welcome. The breakfast girls were so happy and smiley for a Sunday morning shift.

The grounds are understandably gorgeous, so beautifully manicured and a walking brochure is available if you fancy a stroll. My only disappointment was that you can not actually visit Close house its self as it is a private residence. Its understandable, I would not want tourists wandering about my back garden but its a nice use of the vast land to have it a golf course. I would like to point out that neiter of us play golf but had the nicest time regardless and the staff are so polite and friendly.

I would definitely recomend a lovely relaxing stay at Close House!
