A grand house with contemporary style, a leafy setting near the heart of the city. Jesmond Dene House is neither a townhouse nor a country house hotel. It's simply 40 well-designed bedrooms and suites in a richly historic building offering understated luxury and rather good food. Overlooking the wooded valley of Jesmond Dene, the privately owned hotel guarantees peace, escapism and a refreshing change. Newcastle's city centre, however, is only a five-minute drive. The hotel recently received 4 red stars and the AA Hotel of the Year 2008-2009. Our restaurant Fern is an upmarket neighbourhood Dining Room and Bar, with generosity and the highest standard of produce at its core. Our food is; contemporary, non-fussy, and prepared with love, care and attention. We offer relaxed, informal Geordie hospitality, and memorable dining experiences. Ferns uncompromising approach to the finer details of hospitality makes Fern the ideal place to, meet, eat, drink & celebrate.

The hotel is outside of the central city surrounded by a lot of vegetation and is an old manor. We have stayed in downtown New Castle before but really enjoy environment at the old Tutor mansion. They have a wonderful dining room and bar area to sit in. We spent A number of nights having drinks in the bar area. When our family came over we would sit around and discuss the events of the day and want to do the next day. One special thing to do was the high tea in the restaurant area which was one of the best that we have had in our travels. Our room was in the new section and was extremely comfortable. The bed had a down comforter that was extremely cozy. The bathroom had heated floors, walk-in shower and a tub. The facility is an old is an old estate. The rooms have been redone and are very modern. The room overlooked the garden and the patio where they would have weddings. The property is attached to a beautiful walking path next to a small stream. The eating area also has a enclosed glass area which overlooks the gardens. The staff for breakfast and high tea were excellent. If you get a chance ask for Linda and Deb (Bev?). We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

The hotel is nestled in a historic location a short walk from Jesmond Dene. The venue is welcoming and well appointed with a number of dining areas and a terrace overlooking the gardens. We called in for afternoon tea and although a little on the expensive side the location made the perfect setting. However the food was disappointing. The savoury plate was lacklustre with simple fillings in sandwiches and a sausage role- but it has to be said a very good tarte and scones. However, the cake selection was unimaginative, not a slice of cake in sight, more an eclectic mix of smaller bite sized pieces. Most of which was packed into a box to take home for family.

Had a delightful time at the Jesmond Dene House. I took my elderly father, and we were very well looked after. The Junior Suite was superb, and perfectly accessible for his wheelchair (the only thing he found difficult was the low toilet). The staff even reserved us a parking space close to the Suite to make transfer easier. The restaurant was great - large portions and superb food. Breakfast in particular was delicious - I had a superb poached eggs and smashed avocado on sourdough toast (very on trend, I know, but delicious!) We were very well looked after by all staff - housekeeping, reception, bar staff, waiting staff, everybody was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it, and we'll definitely be going back again (next time I might take my wife instead of my father !)

Just had our meal and it was beautiful......not only was the food excellent it was made even better by the service. The guy who took our orders, the guy who ran the restaurant and the charming young lady who served our table....all exemplary!! I don't think it could be improved. Thank you so much and we will be staying and eating again very soon.
