We went to meet up with an old work colleague of mine who moved up here, to which we got a bus into the city centre and there was a bus stop a 5 minute walk away from the hotel.
The hotel had a Toby Carvery right outside which was fantastic and got used a lot on our stay. Or if you don’t fancy a roast, there is a Dominoes pizza or McDonald’s 2 minutes drive down the road on a retail park estate.
We found the staff so welcoming and friendly. Hotel was lovely and clean. Car park had plenty of spaces.
We are already speaking about coming up in the latter part of 2020 but for longer than a long weekend.
Would definitely recommend this hotel if your after the MetroCentre or good public transport links to the city centre.
While some of the rooms could do with updating I have always found them clean and comfortable, and the Newcastle Airport TL branch has the added advantage of a Toby Carvery next door 👍
When we parked at the back of the hotel Stella Artois cans were scattered around the grass embankment which didn't leave a good impression, but receptionist was friendly and polite and our room was fine except for the carpet which was dusty around the skirting boards and needed a good clean.
After eating at Toby's we went back to our room and went to sleep around 10pm, after midnight we were woken by loud voices in the corridor with doors opening and closing then heard people in the room next to ours put on the tv at high volume and continued to be very loud, this went on to about 4.30am where we had no sleep whatsoever.
We had to be up at 6am and on leaving we complaint to the receptionist who didn't seem surprised by our experience, we stayed in room 6 and disruption was from room 5, both rooms are at end of ground floor corridor. The people in room 5 sounded intoxicated and had no respect for other guests, don't know if they had been there for for days or weeks but the receptionist knew who was booked in the room explaining they were a couple without looking at the guest log.
Receptionist said she would pass on our complaint to the manager and we left the property tired and stressed by our experience, this wasn't ideal as my wife had a long day ahead of her having hospital treatment.
Very disappointed with Travelodge for putting guests up in a room adjacent to disruptive people who have no consideration for others, this is our first bad experience of staying with the hotel chain and not one that we would like to repeat again.
The lovely Alison on reception was so efficient and welcoming I was checked in and directed to my room with ease. She made sure both myself and my dog were given a very warm welcome.
I’ve stayed in several travelodge hotels lately and I have to say the welcome I received at this one was the best.
I am on a road trip north to see family , just me and the dog so just a one night stay.
The room was as expected clean and warm.
The carpets and furniture a little tired but perfectly adequate for my needs.
Although the decor in some areas needs refreshing it was clean and smelled fresh.
I would definitely stay again.
It's location is handy being just off the A1, a metro station 10 mins walk away for access to the city / St James' Park. Rugby ground (Newcastle Falcons) 15 mins walk away. There's a lovely Toby Carvery /pub attached to the building, so all on all it's a great handy Travelodge
The rooms are clean but incredibly old fashioned and basic. The room was cold for the time we were in there and the heater in the room made us Ill, with both of us speeding the night coughing from the dust and leaving the trip with sore throats.
Would recommend spending the extra few pounds to stay at another budget friendly hotel, there are much nicer budget friendly travelodges/premier inns for the price of this place
Carpet in my room was not of an acceptable standard for guests! It’s actually insulting that they think it’s acceptable! A disgusting washed out grey carpet was actually a beautiful blue colour once upon a time, from the look of it, a VERY long time ago! Room furniture had been moved so there were several areas of beautiful blue carpet in the predominantly filthy grey rotten-ness! It was disgusting!
In my opinion the room is worth no more than £29 a night - it’s not like anyone was ever on reception and the ‘entrance’ was as visually appealing as the carpet! No kerb appeal whatsoever.
How they have the nerve to charge £149.99 for a Saturday night, is beyond me. I’ll be honest, even £49.99 a night would be a rip off!
I would not use this Travelodge again and to be honest, it’s put me off staying in any other Travelodge as well
Only pluses we’re that room was clean, staff were friendly and it’s location was ideal.
