My wife and I, every year about a month before Christmas we go away somewhere primarily for a Christmas shopping weekend. The first 2 years we got together we went to Lakeside in Essex, then 2018 we went to Southampton and Winchester. In November 2019 we decided to research where the biggest shopping centre in the uk was, and one of the biggest was the MetroCentre. This hotel was ideally located in regards to the MetroCentre at a fraction of the price to hotels nearer. This hotel was a 10 minute drive to the MetroCentre.
We went to meet up with an old work colleague of mine who moved up here, to which we got a bus into the city centre and there was a bus stop a 5 minute walk away from the hotel.
The hotel had a Toby Carvery right outside which was fantastic and got used a lot on our stay. Or if you don’t fancy a roast, there is a Dominoes pizza or McDonald’s 2 minutes drive down the road on a retail park estate.
We found the staff so welcoming and friendly. Hotel was lovely and clean. Car park had plenty of spaces.
We are already speaking about coming up in the latter part of 2020 but for longer than a long weekend.
Would definitely recommend this hotel if your after the MetroCentre or good public transport links to the city centre.

Comfortable bed, no sign of staff except on check in/out (handy key drop). Adjoins a Toby Carvery so handy for food/drink if required. Near a big Tesco and not far from town. It’s very practical for me as family live nearby. Room was clean, bed was comfortable but the curtains need blackout. Weird hot water system for the bath, you can’t get hot water without turning on the cold tap, so a properly hot bath isn’t possible. Health and safety gone mad? A good amount of parking because of the Toby. Rooms aren’t touched unless you put the sign up for a refill of coffee/tea sachets, bins were then emptied when I asked for refills. The aircon in the bathroom didn’t stop, but closing the door helped. It’s dim in the room, only 2 side lights on the wall opposite the bed, plus sidelights by the bed, but switches only on one side, bit awkward. Biggest complaint is having to pay for the Wi-Fi, I’ve never stayed in a hotel that does that, so I used my phone as a mobile hotspot but I had no bars! Given the hotel is on a main road, it was like I’d put it in a faraday cage! Painfully slow but the payable wifi worked fine (only paid for one lot-24 hours, which is pointless because people tend to be out during the day. I’ll definitely stay there again, it’s the closest to family and the bed was extremely comfortable and it was really clean, also right by the A1 for a convenient getaway in the morning. I felt safe due to the fob entry too.

I have stayed at this Travelodge frequently due to work and I am always happy with the service I received. The staff have always been friendly, welcoming, courteous and professional; with thanks to Dawn, Alyson and the rest of the team.
While some of the rooms could do with updating I have always found them clean and comfortable, and the Newcastle Airport TL branch has the added advantage of a Toby Carvery next door 👍

We stayed here one night on 22/10/20 as wife had early morning hospital appointment at RVI, intention was to get a good nights sleep and avoid travelling on the day, as frequent guests of Travelodge and having stayed at Kenton Bank before we booked the room and had a warm welcome on our arrival.

When we parked at the back of the hotel Stella Artois cans were scattered around the grass embankment which didn't leave a good impression, but receptionist was friendly and polite and our room was fine except for the carpet which was dusty around the skirting boards and needed a good clean.

After eating at Toby's we went back to our room and went to sleep around 10pm, after midnight we were woken by loud voices in the corridor with doors opening and closing then heard people in the room next to ours put on the tv at high volume and continued to be very loud, this went on to about 4.30am where we had no sleep whatsoever.

We had to be up at 6am and on leaving we complaint to the receptionist who didn't seem surprised by our experience, we stayed in room 6 and disruption was from room 5, both rooms are at end of ground floor corridor. The people in room 5 sounded intoxicated and had no respect for other guests, don't know if they had been there for for days or weeks but the receptionist knew who was booked in the room explaining they were a couple without looking at the guest log.

Receptionist said she would pass on our complaint to the manager and we left the property tired and stressed by our experience, this wasn't ideal as my wife had a long day ahead of her having hospital treatment.

Very disappointed with Travelodge for putting guests up in a room adjacent to disruptive people who have no consideration for others, this is our first bad experience of staying with the hotel chain and not one that we would like to repeat again.

After a long day packing and driving it was a relief to arrive. The reception door was a little hard to find.
The lovely Alison on reception was so efficient and welcoming I was checked in and directed to my room with ease. She made sure both myself and my dog were given a very warm welcome.
I’ve stayed in several travelodge hotels lately and I have to say the welcome I received at this one was the best.
I am on a road trip north to see family , just me and the dog so just a one night stay.
The room was as expected clean and warm.
The carpets and furniture a little tired but perfectly adequate for my needs.
Although the decor in some areas needs refreshing it was clean and smelled fresh.
I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here on an overnight stay and were very pleased with our choice. We received a very warm welcome from Dawn on reception who kindly told us all about the hotel and what was nearby. Also offered to take our case upstairs for us (not sure if that was because we are pensioners) but as it was only 1 flight of stairs we declined her kind offer. The whole place was very clean and tidy. It is one of the older Travelodges we have used but it appears to have been recently refurbished with nicely panelled shower area in the bathroom. Very comfy bed and quiet room provided us with a great sleep. On our departure the cleaner was on our floor and she also asked if we needed any assistance with our bags. I think the staff in this hotel are some of the best we have ever had at Travelodges anywhere and we have used many of them over the years! Will definitely be our choice if we are ever staying in the area again. Well done and thank you to all the staff who are a credit to the company.

We opted to stay here and park at the long stay for our holiday. Hotel is small and basic but has everything you need from a friendly welcome right through to a friendly check out. Infinite amounts of tea and coffee for your room. The decor and furnishings were very tired or stains on carpets and chip on the bathroom door. Shower was great pressure and temperature and decent size bath too. The only down side was the hard mattress and pillow it was awful to sleep on. Tobys next door is one of the best Iv been to for food quality (see Seperate review on that) I probably wouldn’t return as the deal we got wasn’t a lot cheaper than the other hotels with better amenities and comfier beds but we got what we paid for and it done the job. Long stay did seem a bit further from hotel and airport terminal than anticipated but that’s holiday extras descriptions not the hotel.

This is a great little Travelodge, rooms clean, staff super friendly and helpful,( Alison & Dawn).
It's location is handy being just off the A1, a metro station 10 mins walk away for access to the city / St James' Park. Rugby ground (Newcastle Falcons) 15 mins walk away. There's a lovely Toby Carvery /pub attached to the building, so all on all it's a great handy Travelodge

I wouldn’t bother, as budget hotels go this is beyond basic and there is much better out there for your money. We were staying for two nights at this hotel since it was local to family and local amenities. Having been originally from the area, we are quite aware of this hotels rumoured ‘clientele’ but decided to stay since it was good value for money. The reception is took away at the back and the it’s stated as a 24hr reception, however, from the 48-60 hours we were there we didn’t see anyone on reception once. We were welcomed nicely into the hotel by a member of staff, however, from the encounters we had after checking with the staff were hardly pleasant. One staff member kept accusing us of going into other rooms after 10pm( when we had no idea who the other people staying at the hotel were, we simply entered the same time as another guest! She was rude and clearly had an agenda when it came to making guests feel uncomfortable when we were only coming back from a meal)! Expect frequent dirty looks from the staff members and whispered gossip each time you leave the hotel for whatever reason.

The rooms are clean but incredibly old fashioned and basic. The room was cold for the time we were in there and the heater in the room made us Ill, with both of us speeding the night coughing from the dust and leaving the trip with sore throats.

Would recommend spending the extra few pounds to stay at another budget friendly hotel, there are much nicer budget friendly travelodges/premier inns for the price of this place

This Travelodge is beyond tired! Everywhere, looked tatty.

Carpet in my room was not of an acceptable standard for guests! It’s actually insulting that they think it’s acceptable! A disgusting washed out grey carpet was actually a beautiful blue colour once upon a time, from the look of it, a VERY long time ago! Room furniture had been moved so there were several areas of beautiful blue carpet in the predominantly filthy grey rotten-ness! It was disgusting!

In my opinion the room is worth no more than £29 a night - it’s not like anyone was ever on reception and the ‘entrance’ was as visually appealing as the carpet! No kerb appeal whatsoever.

How they have the nerve to charge £149.99 for a Saturday night, is beyond me. I’ll be honest, even £49.99 a night would be a rip off!

I would not use this Travelodge again and to be honest, it’s put me off staying in any other Travelodge as well

Only pluses we’re that room was clean, staff were friendly and it’s location was ideal.

I was in my own car but it really isn't that far. 3 or 4 mile at most. great little airport. you could try and Google some local taxi phone numbers and check with them. or if you rang the travelodge they normally use a regular taxi company they might have a rough idea.
