Grand room with out exaggeration it truly was spaciously big. Had your own corner do your hair etc with spacious cupboard.. 2 big double beds, no photos but the bathroom was so big too, Shower & bath separate. The few stairs lead up to the sofa, table with chairs & fridge with bottled water provided. We paid a little extra & was so happy we did. It's worth the extra pennies to have grand room. There was one thing, there was this soft sent off perfum or air freshener, it wasn't the carpets or any plug ins but it would come & go. for the life of me, I could not find out were it was coming from? Might be a haunted room, who knows. Yes it is noisey, but having beds away from window was bonus. I would highly recomend this hotel. It is a old hotel there for rooms will be all shapes & sizes. We loved our 1 night stay, considering booking again for festive season. Lovely, friendly check in from gentleman sorry did not get his name 22/12/22 & lovely receptionist too. …
Just arrived in Newcastle. Come out of train station and turn right, and you are there. Pleasantly surprised. Reception staff very efficient and helpful. Room 215 very clean and spacious. Tea making facilities, iron and fridge. Recommended.
Bit unsure what to expect based on recent reviews - was pleasantly surprised. Room 318 was spacious, clean and had running hot water! Breakfast was varied and good in modern restaurant. Staff were very friendly and helpful - true Geordie hospitality. Amazing building and yes, needs a carpet refurb in reception/stairs but not as shoddy as some report here. Close to everything and next door to train station.
The Royal Station in Newcastle is one of those huge, Victorian buildings that constantly need updating and maintenance. My room was shabby, wallpaper peeling off, odd stains on the walls, exposed wires, and it was small and claustrophic. The bathroom door couldn't open all the way as it hit the bed. We felt like we were hemmed in. We were on the 4th floor in a wing of the hotel where there is no lift so had to walk up flights of stairs. The receptionist did warn us though and offered to get someone to help. The staff at all times were excellent and very professional. Breakfast was a standard buffet, and good quality. The fitness suite was the biggest letdown. It was grim and dirty. Someone on the running machine next to me exercised, then left without wiping it down. Not the hotel's fault, but better hygiene needs to be encouraged from the guests. I couldn't bring myself to use it again, I felt so uncomfortable with the condition of the gym. Old, creaky equipment as well. We travel often to Newcastle and this was the first time at the Royal Station, but not again.…

The hotel is clean and comfortable and exactly what we needed. We didn’t have breakfast or use any other facilities but the rooms are well equipped with everything you would need. The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially to the gentleman on reception (I’m sorry I didn’t catch you name) he was so friendly and went up to our room (303) to open the window for us as we couldn’t do it and our room was quite warm, so thank you! We would definitely return to the hotel if in the area again.
My sister and I staying here tonight after an afternoon and evening in Newcastle. We booked a twin room, very dissapointing, its tiny, cant swing a cat. We were falling over each other getting dressed. Room number 432, terrible. The toiler door opens right onto the toilet so if door is opened while the other person is on the loo, it will slam into your knees! The plug sockets are tucked behind the tv. If you put the kettle on its right beside the tv which is dangerous. The window is draughty. One single bed right up against is, so cold 🥶 Hotel reception, bar, service all lovely but its top show. Wouldnt stay here again 🙁
Very convenient location, I loved the fact that there was a fridge in the room, very unusual in British hotels. All food was of excellent quality, I ate in the restaurant 2 evenings and was not disappointed. The hotel was reasonably priced and it has a swimming pool. Decor in corridor was a bit dated and windows in room looked old, however bed was so comfy and bathroom was modern, the bath taps could do with updating. I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
When arrived to our room no heating or hot water told by reception there was no maintenance on site and could not be called out so if we needed a shower we would have to use leisure facility what a joke eventually after speaking to management it was sorted but it didn't get much better house keeping in the morning was terrible nothing cleaned dirty cups left in room bed not even made just some clean towels left on the bed
