I stayed many times to this hotel. They never let me down.
I haven’t stayed since the Covid-19 situation arise hence I booked directly on the Accor website by using a super competitive rates (£69!)
**** hotel, parking available, swimming pool included.. that was an amazing deal!
The staff were always accommodating you; they provide you the best customer service that you could encounter in an hotel. Trust me.
The hotel had these big screens by the reception and free hand sanitiser was available for guests by the hall, by the bar and by the lift!
The Spa was available to use prior booking; it wasn’t crowd at all indeed and the standard of hygiene was top level.
We had free upgrade for an exe room on the 10th floor, the view was terrific!

What can I say.. my favourite hotel in town.

I was staying with my friend celebrating her birthday and the team done a fantastic job making it extra special. It was a complete surprise and happy to say she was thrilled when we checked in to the room!
Upon check in, the staff on reception couldn't have been more friendly, greeting us with a welcoming smile and we was swiftly checked in. When we got to our room we had "happy birthday" confetti in the room on the bed, balloons in the room and a lovely birthday plate with treats and even a birthday card!
Breakfast the next morning was delicious, we did end up going at 11am however the staff were very friendly and nevertheless we enjoyed the lovely spread of breakfast. The pancake maker was definitely my favourite thing on the buffet!
We asked reception for a slightly later check out (sore heads from the night!) and once again the reception team was amazingly friendly.
Overall, my stay at the Novotel Reading was fabulous, the rooms were clean and tidy, reception was friendly and the breakfast was scrumptious! Location wise 10/10, they are 2 minutes walk from Reading station and right on the main strip of clubs/bars.
Thank you to all the staff for making my stay memorable!

The Novotel in Reading is just a great place to stay in my experience and I highly recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel is located in the heart of the town centre, easy walking distance from the railway station, the local bus stops together with all the bars restaurants and shopping establishments.

The contemporary hotel offers a restaurant, bar and leisure centre including a swimming pool.

I remember it for one particular reason; the staff and management were excellent nothing was too much trouble and I got the impression that they would do anything that they could to assist and would go that extra mile without hesitation.

The room had views of the city, was large and comfortable. The desk area was fantastic for me who had to work; the bathroom had walking in shower big enough for two and also a separate bathtub.

The bed was super comfortable benefitting from clean crisp fresh white linen.

There was a nespresso machine and pods (they this coffee addict more at reception), a fridge with complimentary mineral water and an ironing station.
There was very little noise and I spelt very well despite not being in my own bed (all you can ask for really).

Breakfast was good despite the restrictions that COVID has enforced on the hotel; make sure that you use the amazing automatic pancake machine.

The hotel has reacted excellently to the COVID pandemic with good signage and protocols in place; I felt very safe.

Highly recommend this hotel to all and I certainly will be back.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, I use this hotel often when I stay in Reading and although I have tried the other hotels in the area I always come back to the Novotel as it is the best quality.

The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, breakfast is a great selection of hot and cold foods.

I have however found the food at dinner is sometime hit or miss, I now choose to eat out at restaurants instead.

whilst it is rare for me to recommend five stars for a hotel I stay on whilst on business this hotel certainly deserves it Friendly staff great leadership from Anne GM and a continual focus on guests make this an ideal place for business or pleasure. Also the hotel has a gym / spa with a good sized pool Car parking is available and whilst a little bit on the small side more than adequate plus Reading has multiple car parks all within a 2 minute walk Worthy of specific note is the overall cleanliness of the hotel especially in these challenging times I have not seen a spec of dust on my travels and staff are always attentive to replace toiletries and linen - the whatsapp is clearly monitored. Given covid regulations fodd service will take some time to settle but I can still recommend any of the salad options and they do a mean burger too Bar service is very efficient with a good range and a large screen tv Overall excellent and central location to all that Reading has to offer

We were looking forward to our stay here but have to say that we were disappointed. Although the bed was comfortable the room was stuffy with no air conditioning. The toilet was tiny and you had to move to the compact bathroom to wash your hands.
The lifts were in constant use so had to carry our cases up and down the stairs.
If I had known how bad the cooked breakfast was going to be I would have paid to eat elsewhere. The bacon and sausages were dry, the scrambled eggs powdery and mushrooms tasteless. The coffee however was good. There are other hotels in Reading that offer better quality at a cheaper price.

We were bumped here even though we had booked a room at the Ibis next door. Unfortunately nobody bothered letting us know! We went to the Ibis to see a note on the door telling us to go to the Novotel. Had we been told we could have taken costumes with us so we could make use of the swimming pool.

Reception had nice screens, and staff were wearing masks too (bit of overkill), it didn’t make communication easy. Unfortunately this chain doesn’t understand what the Covid virus involves, they had a nice big bunch of bananas in a bowl in reception free to guests! Personally I wouldn't fancy touching fruit guests with covid may have been fondling previously. It did make me wonder how many surfaces, handles, lift buttons etc hadn’t been cleaned.

Reception looked tidy, shame about the horrible plastic plants, another ugly item which needs cleaning often and is unnecessary.

On top of that, there was no coffee, tea, soap, shampoo, milk etc in the room. No reason why not. Easy to quarantine these items for a few days after each guest leaves before putting them back in rooms (like most hotels, including large chains, do).

There's still a kettle and coffee maker in the rooms, somewhat pointless of course. The TV provided was rather small, and put in a strange place. Double the size and on the wall at the end of the bed would have been much more sense.

We were given a room on the 13th floor, unlucky for us! Whilst it was nice and quiet and had good views it was incredibly hot, like walking into an oven! We asked for a fan (no air conditioning in this hotel), which was quickly brought to us. The fan was huge and rather noisy too, we had to have it on to sleep because it was so hot, but despite the comfortable bed sleep wasn't possible with the fan noise keeping me awake. I left tired and looking forward to a peaceful 5hr nap once I got home.

We were going to have drinks in the bar here in the evening, but it was baking hot in there too, far to uncomfortable to stay, fortunately there's a great pub just down the road which is a reasonable temperature.

In short, not a pleasant restful stay at all.

On top of all this, the company tried to get my honest review removed, I can only presume they don’t want guests reporting any issues. Pity. I originally put several photos of the room on my review, but as this hotel have tried to get it deleted I have been asked to alter my review, so I can’t put the photos showing how bad it is on here unfortunately.

We visited this hotel as part of a package with National Holidays on a Legoland trip.
Check in was simple, especially to say there were so many of us in the group, and our room was relatively close on floor 4 (there are 13 floors). There were 4 of us but the room was only set up for 3, this was fine and we managed. The room was clean and had all things we needed like coffee and tea and toiletries. The toilet is separate and away from the shower and bath, but doesn’t have its own sink to wash your hands afterwards, so you have to go into the shower room anyway!
Our room didn’t look onto the Main Street so was quiet, however, I think some complained of a noisy room given it was on a busy street with some popular bars.
Breakfast was really nice, good selection of continental choice and the warm buffet was fab. A comfortable stay for a busy weekend.

We had one night here, when our son was playing in a Pokémon tournament - yes, you read that right. In order to finish on a high, let's do the moany bits first:

Arrival and parking is a bit of a nightmare if you're not used to the traffic system around the town centre. The hotel has a deal with the NCP at the back, but you have to know this and where to go, before you arrive - we didn't. Didn't bother with breakfast. Why pay £10pp in advance (£16 on day, kids free) when all 3 of us had a full breakfast with drinks for £15 at the Weatherpoons a couple of minutes’ walk down the street?

That's said, the hotel itself is in a great central location to the town. The beds were very comfortable, the room was perfectly clean and well decorated. Use of the pool, sauna and steam room was great and the changing facilities were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely consider visiting again.

I stayed at the Novotel whilst visiting friends in Reading.

The hotel itself is in an excellent location, just a couple of minutes' walk from Reading Train Station, and located centrally on Friar Street - near all the bars and restaurants, and a couple of minutes away from Oracle and the town centre.

The good stuff: the room was fine. Aircon worked, which was a godsend in the heatwave we were experiencing at the time! Slightly odd placement of the toilet in a separate 'room' to the bathroom and basin - but that wasn't really an issue, just something I found a little odd.

Breakfast was fine and was your standard buffet affair. No complaints there.

The really bad though: check in and reception. On arrival, I waited 15 minutes before anyone arrived at reception to help check in - by which time there was a fairly large queue forming.

When the receptionist arrived, before even heading behind the counter, she said I could not check in because no rooms were available (I had paid an additional fee for early check in). When I explained this, the receptionist said "how do you expect us to have a room ready for you when we are fully booked and housekeeping have not finished?"

I found this to be extremely rude, and this was all before she actually checked the computer. Once she actually logged in and checked, she did confirm that there were rooms which were ready and checked me in as she should have.

This experience really soured the weekend, and it seems from other reviews that this is not an isolated experience.

Whilst the hotel was more than fine, I've cancelled a future booking and rebooked with a different hotel for later in the year.
