The team at Middlethorpe made our (postponed) Sapphire wedding anniversary celebration a memorable and very special occasion. Everything was superb, from Mark's warm welcome on arrival, Julia's organisation of our special private dining celebration, the young man who prepared the yellow room and and looked after us so well all evening, the delicious canapes and meal. All our family thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The luxury main house rooms with wonderful views of the gardens were beautiful and comfortable, we didn't want to leave. Thank you to team Middlethorpe for everything!

If you are thinking of staying at Middlethorpe Hall, don't hesitate to book. We were also lucky enough to have chosen this as our wedding venue and they hosted the perfect day. From the moment we booked to the point we departed, everything was first class. Having had to rearrange the wedding date twice due to the pandemic, this spanned more than two years! Nothing was ever too much trouble and we were treated like royalty on our wedding day. So many of our guests commented on how wonderful everything was from the venue itself, to the food and all the staff. My elderly father needed a lot of support throughout our big day and there was always someone there to help. I cannot praise the team at Middlethorpe enough for making our day, and stay, so special.

My wife and I have stayed and dined at Middlethorpe Hall and Spa at various times over the last thirty-five years since it opened. We have always found it a very special place to stay, especially when celebrating - we were there for a three night stay for our wedding anniversary this year. Over the years the service and attention afforded by all the staff has always been accommodating, warm, welcoming and consistently excellent throughout . From booking to the moment of leaving - nothing is too much trouble. On this occasion we stayed in Room 1. The room was, as usual, very clean and well appointed with a four-poster king bed. The room also affords very good views of the rear gardens. Our stay (as always) was relaxing beyond measure - to say the least - aided by both the ambiance of the location and the kind, attentive staff. At this time evening dinner is unavailable Monday and Tuesday evenings, but cold food is available. However, in our experience, all meals (breakfast, full dinner and sandwiches) are consistently to the highest standards. My wife enjoyed the swimming pool and spa facilities located opposite the house. The house is located within relatively easy access of York centre and the Cathedral - approximately 45 mins on foot or 10mins by car. The bus service runs twice an hour, but not on Sundays. We cannot commend (and recommend) this establishment highly enough. To Lionel and all the staff - thank you for a wonderful stay and we look forward to staying with you all again this December.

We stayed for four nights. Easily found, with plenty of parking after the baggage drop off at the front entrance. Staff - without a doubt, some of the best that we have experienced on our travels in the UK and worldwide. A special mention to Mark ‘on the front door’. Enroute one of the local roads was blocked by an event - he expertly guide us in and throughout our stay exuded nothing but warmth and professionalism - a rare commodity these days. Our room, or rather suite (14), in the courtyard was excellent. Spacious enough , quiet, comfortable, well appointed, clean. Classy decor was a pleasant mix of old and new. Housekeeping converted the King double into twins with alacrity - thank you. Excellent linen, bathrobe and towel quality. The only problem we experienced was controlling the shower temperature. The maintenance team responded immediately, and whilst not able to completely solve the problem certainly eased it. The main house is fabulous, if this is your type of property. Proper old school. We dined in for two nights (restaurant closed for two evenings due to Covid induced manning challenges) and were not disappointed by the service, quality and presentation of our meals. A light meal (soup/sandwiches etc ) service was offered during the closure periods. Breakfasts were to a high standard. Afternoon tea on the terrace in sunshine was delightful. How pleasant to stay at an establishment that has adopted a sensible (and safe) approach to Covid precautions without using the pandemic as an excuse to reduce service levels and ease kitchen management problems. Well done. The grounds are superb, a mixture of formal and parkland, including a lake. The formal gardens at this time of the year were not at their best, but still very pleasing. Others have commented adversely on the traffic noise - which is a noticeable hum in the grounds. However this needs to be balanced by the convenience of being so close to the city centre whilst being in a rural environment. We walked into town (40 mins) over the racecourse and alongside the river (20 mins along the road) and used the bus service (stop 50 yards away) . Highly recommended.
