Caistor Hall was built between 1795 and 1797 in the time of King George III by the Dashwood family. The actual site can be traced back even further to before the Norman Conquest and originally belonged to the Abbey at Bury St Edmunds until it was confiscated during the dissolution of the monasteries. Caistor Manor and land then passed to the Godslave family who owned it until the early 1600’s and then in turn to the Pettus family.Through marriage the land became the property of the Dashwoods in 1793. The first recorded owner was Horatio Dashwood who lived in the hall with his wife Harriet and their children. We really want this place to do well. Caistor Hall is a beautiful place and we live in the village so would love to be regulars here.
So we hope any issues are early teething issues and that they get it right and succeed here. We had a very pleasant evening and the food was very nice - which is important!
But there is lack of attention to detail around service and decor that we hope they work on. There is still a little of an unfinished feel to the dining room. It feels very bare. Some paintings and tablecloths/proper napkins would sort this out. Though some of the other rooms were lovely and felt more ‘finished’. I imagine the rooms are nice.
There was a slight lack of atmosphere and the ambience would be improved by some music to add atmosphere.
Again the service felt a little disorganised. Everyone was pleasant and friendly but it lacked attention to detail, for example our bill was brought to the table but no one told us we had to go to the bar to pay so we sat waiting for someone to come to the table. There was also no proper wine list.
We will try again perhaps in a few months time. All of the issues would be easily fixed and the food was lovely. And it must be so difficult opening a restaurant straight after lockdown. I have to say the Covid measures all felt very safe and tables were really spaced out, if anyone is wondering about that.

Set in 30 acres of countryside, the Georgian house sits comfortably waiting to fulfil expectations of a quiet stay. Not disappointed, we only stayed one night, but the staff were friendly and helpful. Clearly a work in progress for the new owners, some areas are a bit faded and jaded but the breakfast was plentiful and tasty and promptly served at table. None of the breakfast buffet grazing here!
Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable but again, showing signs of its age - an actual key? Sliding bolts for door locks? In the rabbit warren of corridors to find the room, there was no fire escape plan in the room.
Lookin g forward to visiting again, though, because the place has huge potential

Went here for dinner with friends last weekend since the name has now changed back to caistor hall and thought it may be better than the when it used to be called Boudicca. It was slightly better but the service still needs to improve. No wine list for customers which was a bit disappointing as you’d thought they’d at least provide one. The ambiance wasn’t great. The dining room is missing some nice decorations and felt quite clinical with just a white plain wall and a big mirror.

The hotel has a lot of potential but they need to get it right. The waiter seemed hesitant and the waitress was asked whether the Halloween event may happen again this year and she just said ‘who knows we may be closed at this point!’ which didn’t sound very reassuring!

Stayed here for 1 night on 19th July, the day after the Hotel now called "Caister Hall Hotel" had reopened after lockdown. Wendy met us and checked us into one of the "Hall" rooms(#6). Beautifully refurbished and extremely comfortable. Lovely garden to sit in in the sunshine. The hotel is ramping back up after the lockdown and measures are already in place for social distancing, hand sanitation, access & egress separation, etc. Tasty full english, right sized so neither bloated nor left wanting more. Wendy is a true treasure for the business... after we showed interest in the refurb, she even went to the length of showing us around some of the bedrooms. Honeymoon suite is gorgeous with four poster and huge bathroom with standalone bath, shower, his and her washbasins etc. All rooms well proportioned and comfortably furnished.

Will be going back for sure !

Me and my partner stayed one night here. The hotel itself is beautiful, rooms recently decorated and the food was very good however... and I don’t normally complain but this experience was.. strange. We was made to feel very unwelcome and more of an inconvenience than a paying customer.

Checked in and was informed that our restaurant booking wasn’t confirmed but we was told we was ‘lucky’ because the chef was in. The restaurant was set up for breakfast at 7pm and we felt like we was causing them issues by wanting to eat? We was also informed they forgot about dinner service because they was too busy with the wedding..

The staff couldn’t really give a damn about us because there was a wedding tomorrow, we didn’t really matter. The lights were off in their lounges (and restaurant) very unwelcoming.

The room was freshly decorated and beautiful but the bath had hair in it and dried up bubble bath. The corridors and stairs didn’t look like they’d been hoovered in a week. Also the management may want to look at the doors to each hotel room, these are definitely not fire rated the gap around it was massive and this could cause you serious issues.

Breakfast was only served till 9am and even then was told we can’t be late out because of the wedding tomorrow. I get the hotel makes its money from weddings but attention is being lost elsewhere.

I’m really not one for complaining but this was not a good experience for us. I also understand you may be understaffed because of COVID but if that’s the case don’t accept bookings and stick to the weddings because with deep regret I now don’t feel welcomed to return. We tried to celebrate our anniversary but it was dampened by too many faults.

I’m sure if you’re getting married here the staff will go above and beyond to make it amazing for you. However if you’re looking for a night away to relax, dine, drink and get good service, probably not the place for you..

Booked for 2 nights 18 and 19 December 2020 to evaluate for taking our clients for a weekend in Norwich with an overnight stay at nice hotel!!!! Got this one wrong ... very wrong.
£356 (paid in advance or we would NOT have otherwise paid the bill!) bought us a very sparse Room 2 .... never again.
For that we got : dead flies in the window, loads of dead flies in the shower, no hot water on Friday and Saturday (was restored Saturday evening), no heating in room except that provided by a small stand alone and very noisy heater, no replacement towels or toiletries, no replacement tea and coffee, room not serviced, no clean crockery. Dirty stairway from when we arrived and still dirty when we left. People shouting late on Friday night. Food was good except that dinner on second night was served with long strip of foil (butter wrapping) buried ln mashed potato!; tables chipped, no cloths, had to search other tables to make up cutlery and cruet that we needed. No housekeeping staff seen all weekend.
Hotel management suggested under circumstances (Covid-19) reduced staffing was in place but that is no excuse for lack of hygiene and service.
Unfortunately a bad decision on our art and total waste of money and definitely WOULD. NOT RECOMMEND .

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect for exploring Norfolk. Our room was clean and comfortable and obviously quite newly refurbished. The breakfasts were lovely. All of the service we have had whilst here has been excellent. All staff kind and helpful and all wearing masks and making sure everything feels "COVID-secure". There are is plenty of space for the amount of guests so social distancing is easy. We would definitely come back here.

My wife booked this hotel whilst we were in Norfolk for a couple of days. Did not know anything about this hotel until our stay so did not read any reviews.

Well, the hotel has character. From what I have subsequently read it has been refurbished and this certainly showed in the general decor. Our room was EXCELLENT with a nice new bathroom, comfy bed and there were even bath robes/slippers available. We had dinner both nights and the food was excellent though I suspect limited due to the current COVID crisis. Breakfast was good too, hand cooked and tasty. We liked the gardens (weather helped) and all in all had a very enjoyable stay and at a reasonable price.

Only slight criticism was that WiFi is only available in the public areas but not too much of an imposition given the really nice public areas. Oh, and that masks weren't worn in the public areas as a general rule even if food wasn't been served but I suspect the new government rules may rectify this.

All in all a big thank you to all the staff, who yes, seem to multi function for a really nice stay.

Great few days spent at the Caistor Hall Hotel, staff were very helpful and friendly, location was great for visiting Norwich town and the surrounding areas (10-15 mins drive to Norwich, 20-30mins to Wroxham) breakfast was included anything from a cooked English (with vegan option), eggs Benedict, overnight oats. Room was lovely and bed was really comfy, we had room 21 which was a little walk to get to but was worth it. Can’t wait to stay again 🥂

The evening out was for a surprise 65th birthday meal with close family and Caistor Hall had been recommended! The meal was booked for 7pm. Within of a few minutes of being seated drinks were sorted and we perused the menu. All looked good and after a few minutes we placed orders for both starters and main course. Starters arrived after about 20 mins. Having finished these by about 7.45 we then chatted while the table was cleared expecting shortly to receive our main courses....we waited.....and we waited noticing resturant slowly emptying and still we waited, till finally at around 9.15 pm the meals arrived - roughly 2 hours after ordering with no apologies for delay!!!! Out of the 6 meals ordered 2 were for medium rare steaks (menu said standard was medium rare) and one well done. Sadly the 2 medium rare were too rare to eat and the medium well done was rare in the middle, but accepted to avoid delay. We called the waitress over requesting steaks needed more cooking, they apologised and amazingly after only about 10 mins, 2 perfectly cooked steaks arrived! Everyone else by now had nearly finished their meals. (Sadly after leaving I found my wifes meal - the Austrian Salad, was not very nice; it was described as having a poached egg over the salad but what arrived were 2 over poached sold eggs meaning no runny yokes and some poorly cooked veg; she only ate part but did not want to complain). The long delays meant we didn't finish our main courses till around 9.45 which was then much too late to think about deserts and we decided to leave. The bill came to around £250 and my son tells me he was only offered £10 discount for the inconvenience. The restuarant and side rooms were not busy so we still don't understand why the meals took so long to arrive; it's as if we'd been forgotten. I should point out though the waiting staff were faultless. Sadly I will not be recommending Caistor Hall to friends.

This hotel is undergoing a makeover (so we are told) and will revert to its original name, Caistor Hall Hotel. But it is still the same owner so I am not getting too excited.
