Booked for Christmas meal. Service, and food very very poor. Our table was in a draft .. clearly squeezed in by the door and despite complaining of the cold nothing was done! The food... none of the five of us could get a fork into the sprouts,( we all mentioned it to the waiter who simply said oh dear) turkey tasteless, I sent my meal back because it was cold the others said they’d just eat quickly! The only good thing was the dessert. Service .. very slow they couldn’t even get five coffees to the table without repeatedly asking for the fourth and fifth one and milk and sugar all arriving at intervals so that the coffees were cold. As we hadn’t met up since pre Covid we didn’t want to spoil it by complaining there and then ( although in hindsight I wish I had!) . I said I’d phone and speak to the manager when I got back. I have tried numerous times and left messages and have had no call back even when I said I wanted to talk about a booking. I am appalled by this whole experience and will not return nor recommend it to anyone.…
We spent a very pleasant 4 nights at the hotel over new year. It’s in a lovely building, with lots of character and an easy location to walk into town. The room and bathroom were lovely, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The room had everything you might need, from a fridge, hairdryer to an iron. The bar/restaurant was equally lovely and offered a great breakfast menu. Staff were friendly and it was also a bonus to have free car parking. The only minor niggle I would say is a point raised by some other travellers, which is that the hotel’s communal areas - reception, hallways and stairways - did look a bit shabby and in need of redecorating. This would not take much to do and would then match up to the good standard of the rooms and restaurant. I would definitely stay again.…
We arrived at 12.40 for a surprise family dinner booked for 1pm. We werw split over 3 tables. The restaurant itself has beautiful decor and we were in the consetvatory, with heaters and looked forward to our meals. Having preordered weeks ago, we were sure it would be served without delay as the hotel had plenty of notice as to meal requirements. At 2.25 there was still no sign of any food, around half of our party had starters which trickled put around 2 30pm, a further 49 kins passed when I was forced to chase up our food once more, the waitress said I had to give time for the starters to be cleared away. It was 3pm before any mains started to trickle out... 2 of party had wait nearly 20 minutes after everyone else. I had the roast which was mostly of good standard apart from the sprouts that tasted burned but were raw inside. We then waited over 40 minutes for dessert all in all very poor service from a setting where I expected higher standards than we received, without any apology! Will not be returning. …
We were appalled at the state of the reception area! We had to leave as no one came to reception after us pressing the bell 3 times and calling the number left on reception. We didn't even bother staying the night. First impressions are key!
A huge dissappointment. My burger was 2oz! No alternative for brioche sweet bread so toasted sourbread instead...didnt ask if I wanted it toasted...yuk. Nearly £15 for hardly any food, rest of city serving double stack for same price. Two of party had fish & chips, they were definately overcooked! Not golden but dark & unappealing, dry inside. Waiter cleared table whilst I was still eating!!! This is not acceptable. Never again & already cancelled our xmas booking at sister hotel in Cromer. Rubbish meal, over priced & rude service.
Liked · Good restaurant, comfortable bed, white cotton linen, large towels, SMEG fridge noiseless, on-site parking, good location. Disliked · Terrible 'noise bleed' from next door room and room underneath; woken throughout the night by people in the next room using the toilet. Sound so loud they could have been standing next to me. Banging on the wall behind my bed from movement in room below. Heating made noise from 4am even though radiator was off. Secondary double glazing, so choice of fresh air or hearing people making phone calls outside during the evening, any band in the function room and the staff outside in the morning chatting with no regard for residents. Party with very loud band on Friday night. Not warned by staff, even when I asked to leave a day early due to my dissatisfaction with the room - told no refund so made the mistake of staying the last night I had booked and having to have the window closed due to excessive noise of the band. Tatty room with chipped paint (no; not shabby chic), dirty carpets up the stairs, in corridor and in room, kettle that didn't fit under the sink tap, Nespresso machine that got in the way of using the kettle, had no instructions and no indication what the different pods were. Small cups with small handles. Bottles of beer and wine and large snack box made use of desk impossible (I had them removed by staff), no visible price list for mini bar items. No storage for clothes except 5 hangers. Slats (about 2 cm thick and had weight) on "storage rack" loose so they fell off when accidentally moved. Radio very dusty and broken. Rusty items in ensuite - plug with rusty paper clip as a handle, rusty toilet roll holder and cracked sink. Shower not properly cleaned and grey grouting appeared to disguise mold. Sheets not changed in 5 nights despite chocolate stain, yet towels changed after one use.…
We stayed here for two nights on a dinner B&B basis. Large car park our car did not move whilst we were there as the hotel is only 10 minutes walk to the centre. We asked for a quiet room which was located at the rear of the hotel on 1st floor. Lots of stairs so if you are not mobile be aware. Room was a little dark but had all the amenities, hairdryer, iron and coffee machine with pods and a Smeg fridge. We had a large walk in shower which we love. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. We were lucky to be here during Norfolk Restaurant week so we ate off this menu both evenings which included venison and sea bream which came under our Dinner allowance. Staff friendly. Would return
Very enjoyable stay and good value for money. A friendly and welcoming place to stay and the restaurant on site is excellent. We fortunately booked bed and breakfast directly with the hotel and the breakfast pancakes were superb! Very good location within walking distance of the town centre.
Couple of nights in Colonels retreat for 4 adults as a pre and post wedding stay. Excellent apartment with plenty of space for 4, comfortable beds. Bit of feedback .. the lighting is quite dim in the bedrooms and the carpet on stairs down to bedrooms could do with a good clean.. but generally a great stay and good value for money. Inclusive breakfast was a la carte from main menu and was very good quality. Easy parking.
Pleasant enough hotel, but cleanliness and maintenance left to be desired. No heating in bathroom and room was not serviced on the first day. Coffee pods were left but nothing else was done. It probably was the end of the chambermaid’s shift. Breakfast however is excellent, fresh, tasty and there is ample choice.
