Just got back from our second stay in a month at this hotel. First time we stayed in 'Holly' which has a 4 poster bed and Jacuzzi bath. Yesterday we stayed in 'beech' which also has a Jacuzzi bath. On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by very friendly staff. I like that this hotel is run by a family as it gives it a homely feel from the start. Something you dont get when staying in chain hotels. This is a period building so remember that when booking. I like how they have kept so many original features. Both nights we stayed we spent time in the hot tub, drinking prosecco. Apologies if we were a bit loud. Breakfast was a very generous size portion and the fresh coffee was a godsend after the night before. On entering the hotel it says 'arrive as guests' and on the reverse side of the door it says 'leave as our friends' and that pretty much sums up the feel of the place. We will definitely return, thank you.…
We left ! Did not stay here after first looked at room and bed It all looked very out-dated, oldfashioned and there were cats walking in the place where you could eat … it all looked not inviting to me at all I really got a ‘short of breath’ feeling so uncomfortable smelled the place Old old country house in the middle of nowhere —- some might call it ‘romantic and charming’ not for me Parking was minimalistic So we left and found another place for the night
Quirky in a lovely way. There are great plans for this place. It’s in a lovely location. The staff are great, the food is good and it feels homely and comfortable. Not many places that have a self service bar, a full size snooker table and a hot tub!
We love this place so much we visit whenever we travel to the NE to visit our parents. We’ve stayed in all but one of the rooms but like the Holly room best. We booked afternoon tea here for our parents who despite said they couldn’t eat much didn’t leave much at all. We were still full from the steak meal we had the evening before. This was the first time I have never had to send a steak back because it was still too raw for me and yet not cremated! The staff are so friendly and their breakfasts are the best in the area.
I wanted to stay somewhere more personable than a large hotel chain. Female solo travel makes me desiring of a more individual approach. This was just as hoped for. Lovely convivial atmosphere. Family feel, with great duty of care. Lovely walk out over the fields made it extra special. BUT the OMG moment glorious homemade mince pies in May. Highly recommend
I don’t think I stayed at the same hotel as other people reviewing this place. Cons. lukewarm ‘welcome’, non existent goodbye. Uncomfortable bed. A tiny shower that was quite hard to get in and out of. Musty smell generally and a sense that the place needs a good spring clean. Very very dated decor and furniture. Cluttered dining room. Mediocre breakfast. One garden table had a used ashtray and empty beer bottle on it for duration of the stay. I appreciate that it would be an expensive task to refurb completely but how about a lick of paint? Pros. The surrounding area is beautiful and it’s peaceful.
Lovely, quiet setting in large grounds. The room was comfortable and with an arm chair and a chaise longue it was relaxing to sit in. The breakfast was amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful. Parking was a little tight, but otherwise, excellent.
We came up from the South for a close family funeral the w/c 6th December, and the guys at the Brass Castle were absolutely brilliant. Its a huge property but only has 4 available guest rooms at one time, so it felt very intimate and the service was kind of tailored to us which was quite a unique but welcome experience. Breakfast was absolutely banging every morning. The rooms were all brilliant and nicely sized. The only downside is the on-site parking as its very difficult to turn round if its already busy and there is only really three parking spaces, with no real car parking area (it's all just round the back sort of..) However, that is a minor inconvience against a truly wonderful stay in a Lovely Property. A true home away from home.
Absolutely beautiful peaceful stay! This is a hidden gem we didn't know was on our doorstep! The staff are friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure you were happy! Food was delicious, we stayed in the Holly room which was clean and decorated to give you a 'grand' feel which was lovely! The hot tub (although on the terrace) was private, well maintained and right under the stars! Will certainly be returning..only downfall for us is that we couldn't stay longer xx Thank you for having us x
Me and my girlfriend came from scotland and stayed here for 4 nights as we wanted to see more of Yorkshire. It is a family run place and they made us feel part of their family and every person we spoke to were friendly, chatty and helpful. The location is stunning and has amazing views, and was an ideal location for our needs We were also lucky enough to have great weather and sat in the beer garden which is beautiful (even in November). There is an outdoor heater which we used once. Breakfasts are cooked to order and are hot and tasty and was part of the room price. I can't say anything bad about this place and highly recommend. Chris and Gael :)
