The hotel is just beautiful, with an aesthetic of modern plush whimsy. The rooms are designed with gorgeous fabrics and casement windows. We looked onto the beautiful courtyard, and also couldn't hear any noise from there. The lobby has a festive feel, with beautiful people milling about and a great restaurant. Location-wise it's perfect. The quiet courtyard opens into Soho, with Regent and Carnaby Streets steps away. Service was wonderful as well.

This review is for the afternoon Coronation Tea, This is a designer hotel from Kit Kemp. This review is for Afternoon Tea at Ham at Yard Hotel. First thing I will say is this wasn't our first choice as we could not get reservations at F&M. Ritz or Wollesley. This location was highly recommended. Stating that, the cost here is less than half of what it would have cost us at the other locations, though, probably just as good without the bustling environment. We are not saying the tea was bad, just different. We had a difficult time locating this location in that few heard of the hotel and it set in a courtyard of an unnamed street (plus I ignored my wife's recommendation to try a direction that would have gotten us there more quickly)The room was casually decorated and fairly intimate. I think it was called the orangerey. There are maybe 15-20 tables set off from the restaurant. This is an understated designer boutique hotel known mostly by the regulars. We sat at a couch area next to a fireplace. There were regular tables/chairs also. We pre-booked the Coronation Tea and were served immediately but saw little of our servers afterwards (that is fine as they allow you to make your own experience). We were asked what type of tea we wanted as there was an upgrade charge for the more exotic teas (and bubbly if wanted) and we opted for those. The tea was brought quickly which was followed by the inevitable three-tiered caddy containing scones, finger sandwiches and sweets. The tea was served on beautiful designer bone china. The environment was conducive to leisure though I think it would have been more intimate to have a table. It was a bit uncomfortable to reach over to eat and had to sit on the edge of the couches, as comfortable as they were (I definitely would have liked to have a lie-down). The scones were the best part of they tea as they came with clotted cream and wonderful mixed berry and passion fruit preserves (so delicious we took the leftovers). Please note they offer as many refills as you like and will box up any leftovers. The sandwiches were OK (my wife did not like the Salmon/cucumber combination and why was ordinary egg salad one of them. The cakes were very sweet and one came with a crown decoration(hence, the coronation tea). The macarons (my wife had to explain, yet again, the difference between macarons and macaroons) had a nice bite. We actually got quite full on the food from the caddy and had leftovers which we took. You are left alone to enjoy each others company, sipping tea as if you were in your own living room with the servers only appearing if summoned, I enjoyed that,as I think American wait staff can be obtrusive or non-existant with no middle ground. It was quiet with gentle background music, tasteful decoration and an environment with an air of dignity. Your room was set off from the rumble of the restaurant and you were put into your own little world of leisure. My wife was dressed impeccably and I enjoyed every minute of watching her enjoy her special moment.

Ham Yard and its ground ( Denman Place ) used to be so lively , cool and chic . Now the whole thing just looked like a rundown palace with rude and uninviting staffs . The service was pretty closer to non existence unless you tip extensively which I did . The staffs in the restaurant were lovely and very pleasant . They were the ONLY ones with the service -mind attitude and were polite and treated us like we were GUESTS that were paying top notch money for the 5-6 rooms that wee were staying in . The concierge however must have been the most useless concierge I'd ever had the non-pleasure to talk to . My Mykita glasses snapped and broke on a Sunday and I asked him if he knows any emergency glasses repair shop then he proceeded to tell me that his glasses were Prada and then started googling on his computer before telling me No there were no glasses repair shop ANYWHERE in SOHO .I would have thought that concierge in a hotel like the Ham Yard would have a list of stores that could be useful to guests in case of an emergency . This guy could not wait to stop talking to me before he went over to chit chat with the other guest. Utterly unprofessional . Also I have no ideas why they have these thugs to intimidate guests and just being all out horrible to us . It was as if they HATED to service their guests . I had a French man coming up to me and rudely demanded to know why I was standing infront of the reception desk - I was waiting for a taxi which I asked the hotel to call for me . A man went up to my niece and told her she couldn't sit in one of the chairs at the lobby if she wasn't staying here . I mean there were like 11 of us staying there . I don't know if it's Brexit or the British economy or even the fact that they just HATE working in the servicing industry . The area around the hotel is dirty and run down and is also VERY loud so sleep quality was poor . I also had 2 men in my room trying to fix a roller blind from 7.30 -8.30 pm . Is that an acceptable time to do this while your guest is in the room ??? I had stayed at the Ham Yard on MANY previous visits to London as well as all other Firmdale hotels but I think I will not book a stay here for a Loooooong while or maybe never again . It's like a place with no soul where people couldn't wait to get rid of you . Reminder - Staffs in restaurants for breakfast Lunch and dinner were Superb .

Excellent foyer tea coffee and sandwich. Came to meet a friend a bustling foyer as always. Hard but not impossible to get a comfy sofa table. I was not eating cake so had a savoury toasty that was really tasty. Great service as always.

A little hidden gem in soho…. Great cocktails, in a gorgeous setting, all covered with heaters and blankets. They had a whole selection of warm cocktails which were awesome, the team are really knowledgable and friendly! Will definitely be back for the vibe 👏🏽

I loved everything about this place from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. I went for a movie screening in the basement cinema - the decor is great with old (and I mean old) movie posters adorning the walls (Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, Metropolis, etc.) and an old Charlie Chaplin movie on the wall above the cinema bar. Next door in the basement, there’s also a funky four-lane bowling alley with it’s own adjoining bar. The rooms are exquisite and the location couldn’t be better, right in the heart of London with Theatreland in one direction and Soho’s cool streets in the other. The staff were all friendly, professional and those I spoke to all seemed really happy working there, and this definitely runs off on the guests and visitors. An all-round first-class venue.

Stayed here during a bit of Christmas shopping and can not fault it, the checkin is so relaxed, the reception area is immaculate and doesn’t resemble your traditional desk. Rooms are equally impressive and have a homely feel. We were made to feel truly welcome, great location as well, but equally sheltered from the hustle and bustle.

Great staff! Friendly, professional and helpful - nothing too much trouble. Had Christmas festive menu. Felt the starters were a bit bland - turkey main was tasty. Fruit crumble tasted burnt. Disappointing considering the price tag. Luckily the staff made up for it and kept our glasses filled up. Beautiful decor, great location in the heart of Soho and very clean.

Traveling with my wife and 2 kids. Booked the 2 bedroom apartment for 5 nights at £4030 per night. Staff couldn’t be less interested. Garbage on the floor between bed and night stand. Decor very shabby - curtains falling down, held together with wire and a few screws at the top. Impossible to close… Room attempts to be very ‘high tech’ with everything centralized to several iPad controllers (lights, shades, tv, ac etc) - but of course none of the iPads work - so you are stuck with zero control. Not a single usb port though… Ordered room service breakfast - but forgot all the drinks … I could go on - but no point. You would be better at a low end Marriott…
