Stayed here with a friend as a belated birthday treat. The hotel is absolutely charming and the staff were all so friendly-they are a real credit to the hotel. The location of this hotel in Penrith is brilliant, as you step out of the front door and are right in the heart of Penrith. The room (number 4) was lovely. It was clean and spacious, with a lovely bathroom and a huge, comfy bed. The waffle robes and biccies were lovely touches! It was very quiet in the room and my friend and I both slept really well. Breakfast was delicious and the veggie options were great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return!

We were travelling home from Scotland and decided to break our journey by staying overnight in Penrith. All the staff we met were excellent and couldn’t be more helpful. When booking the room I told the manager both my wife and I had difficulty with stairs so could we be on the first floor please. With it being 300 years old and a listed building there wasn’t going to be a lift. It was a bit of a labyrinth to our room but he carried our bags up for us without us having to ask. The room itself was was just what you wanted. Clean, tidy, tea/coffee facilities, and a comfortable bed. When I’d telephoned and said about our difficulties he said he would put us in a room with a walk-in shower which he did and it was better for us. We had a meal in the bar, which was quiet as you would expect with how things are at the moment, which was filling and we couldn’t eat a dessert. We also had a lively and interesting chat with the staff in the bar and those who had just finishing work. Comfortable nights sleep and our bags were brought down for us, again without us having to ask. All in all a good stay and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

Old hotel with some great original features with a revolving door at the front entrance. We had lovely recently refurbished bed room (club) on the first floor. All the staff we came across were very nice. Great food.

Stayed at the George hotel for one night after being unable to get there the previous month due to bad weather . We were given room 19 , once again as far as you can get from the reception/ restaurant areas , but hey that is the story of my travels . It was an upgraded room ( plus £20 ) and it was a good size with super bed , really warm and with a proper bath too . Although there was no view as such from the window at least there was no road noise to disturb us . That said as it is an old hotel , the floor creaking was something else . Every floorboard creaked and even on the corridor outside the room we could hear whenever anyone walked by . We always use earplugs anyway so no nighttime disturbance. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and what a lovely room that is all done up for Christmas. Breakfast in the morning was really nice , didn’t have the full English breakfast but opted for eggs benedict / florentine which were just superb, fresh and tasty . The staff at the hotel are all friendly and chatty making our stay that much better and we will return to this charming hotel next year for sure .
