Travellers' Choice
A fairytale gothic mansion, forest side is the fulfilment of a romantic dream. Set in the magical lake district landscape of wordworth's beloved grasmere, this beautiful house charmed visitors for over a century before falling into disrepair. But, like sleeping beauty, forest side has been reawakened. Enchanting gardens are emerging from the wilderness while our fabulous rooms are fit for any prince or princess.

The Forest Side is our favourite hotel. Not only is the food superb - 8 course tasting menu not to be missed- but the staff are brilliant. The Restaurant Manager is excellent, the Sommelier knowledgeable and friendly, and the Reception Staff really welcoming. Try this hotel you won’t be disappointed.

Really nice food and enjoyed the matching wine. Also a really nice room with cold water and cake on arrival which was a lovely touch. The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is a couple of things that are over priced. £6 for a decaf coffee which was literally coffee and a jug of milk on the side. Also a huge charge added to the bill at the end as a tip. You already pay a premium to stay and I by no means resent tipping but nothing annoys me more than not only being told to tip compulsory but also by how much. It didn't spoil the stay though. I think 4 stars over all is fair.

Forest Side has been loaded with superlatives and awards for both the restaurant and the hotel and they are entirely deserved. We had a beautiful room overlooking the lawn at the back of the hotel -as comfortable and luxurious as you would expect for the price. The eight course tasting menu was a memorable experience - a succession of interesting flavours and visually exciting. Good breakfast. Excellent service throughout - efficient, knowledgeable and pleasant but not obtrusive. Fabulous.

We thought the rooms, the staff and the food were very good BUT when you are paying the sort of prices you are paying here then things should be 100% right and, for us, a couple of things spoilt the stay. The sommelier is very charming and knowledgeable but, whenever asked for a recommendation, simply showed us the most expensive wines on the card! Also if you dine and stay here you are looking for a bit of ‘occasion’ when you dine, so to sit in the dining room for dinner alongside someone who is wearing trainers, jeans and a T-shirt is a big disappointment.

We love staying here, the service is impeccable. A special mention to the young lady and gentleman running the restaurant in the evening in a professional and smooth manner. The sommelier and the chap who ran the breakfast service were brilliant too (sorry didn’t get any of their names). Food is excellent, we were thoroughly spoilt during our stay. Thank you forestside.
