We stayed her a few times before the pandemic shutdown but returned in 2022 with the new owners having taken over. The staff are still wonderful and do all they can but the food quality and choice was very disappointing compared with our previous experience. The value of the evening meal was seriously reduced - although the breakfast choice, quality and service was very good. Our room, a classic superior, was jaded, poorly lit and the bathroom stained and worn and not adequately cleaned. We were very annoyed to be hit with surcharges not agreed at the time of booking - bur the reception quickly cancelled these upon protest. It is a shame for the excellent staff that the owners seem to be focussed on profit. This hotel is an excellent location with great potential but going downhill at present...

Beautiful hotel. The staff were amazing and provided such a personal service. We were upgraded to a suite which was such a lovely touch. What is the standout feature for this hotel however (apart from the staff), is the food. We had an evening meal which was outstanding. I would recommend this hotel on the food alone, but with the staff attentiveness, location and interior added to this - it really is an easy sell. We would love to return in the future.

My wife’s surprise 50th birthday celebration weekend treat. Honestly, we found ourselves blown away by the hotel, staff, food and overall Lake District hotel environment. Our room was spectacular with a view (from our private balcony) over the beck. Breakfast was clearly locally sourced with a variety of options that I suspect would satisfy any personal choice. Dinner was also excellent, local options again and (refreshingly) not overpriced, this can often be the case in hotels within this bracket. We booked a 45 minute Spa option that included a Jacuzzi/plunge pool, Aromatherapy room, sauna and a heated outdoor area, all on offer to us as hotel guests and gave us a really good refresh & relaxation period after a long day on the fells. Having said all that the staff definitely made our stay the most memorable ever in the Lake District. Everyone played their part, particularly the reception team who offered a warm welcome 24/7, always showing a interest in guest activities and needs, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant team also offered us nothing but outstanding service, again, particular mentions should go to the restaurant manager and Richard who served and looked after us for most of the weekend. This hotel is clearly run and directed brilliantly well from top to bottom and is a credit to the management team. Well done, we can’t wait to return.

My partner and I have just left this fabulous hotel. All the staff are absolutely lovely, you feel like you’re the only guests in the hotel. From what I could tell all the rooms had a balcony and ours was the superior classic and it was so lovely, the balcony looked over the stream. The facilities were great, food was amazing, the whole place was so clean and covid safe. Bed comfortable. We had started, main and desert at dinner and they also gave us a mini starter and mini desert couple tart. We also had a complimentary smoothie and platter (photographed) at breakfast, aswell as our breakfast. Cannot wait to return.

We stayed at Rothay Garden for New Year 2021, the food was excellent in both quality and quantity. Our visit took place in the midst of the Omicron pandemic which was reflected in the modifications made necessary without being intrusive. The choice of wine was reduced when compared with previous visits, but not reflected in the quality. The highpoint of the weekend was the outstanding firework display hosted by Rothay Garden and enhanced by other displays around Grasmere. A fitting end to a year with a portend for a better future.
