Travellers' Choice
Standing proudly in the heart of Grasmere village and cradled by two acres of glorious gardens, you’ll find the historic Wordsworth Hotel. Once the Earl of Cadogan’s shooting lodge, our grand country mansion offers the ideal retreat to soak up the picture-postcard views of the lakes and experience the sense of space, fresh mountain air and secluded beauty spots that inspired two centuries’ worth of Romantic poets and painters. The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa provides an iconic destination perfectly positioned in the UNESCO World Heritage Lake District, it’s a place where you can reconnect with nature, ramble across the fells, watch the sunset or take an open water swim. Individually styled, comfortable bedrooms balance tradition with contemporary design with most offering stunning mountain or village views. The fine dining, air conditioned Signature Restaurant provides an award-winning menu whilst the more informal Dove Bistro showcases superb local ingredients cooked with flair and skill. For guests looking to truly pamper themselves the Spa offers guests a wide range of luxurious and natural treatments to ensure a fully relaxing stay.

Stayed there during the recent torrential rain and flood and couldn’t be happier with our choice. First and foremost the staff are wonderful from the receptist to the cleaners and waiters and felt welcomed at all times. I find the décor charming and well kept. The room was clean and warm and only wish it had a shower room as the large bath tub though great, can be a bit tricky to get in and out. The pool and jacuzzi management with Covid is well done with sensible lanes/room division and relaxing hour use and given luxurious robes and slippers to change into – how thoughtful. The pool is clean and warm. The restaurant is top class and was pleasantly surprised that the high standard is carried over to breakfast service. The breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfast we’ve had with the selection and quality and flexibility. No problem with parking and the smell of gingerbread is a nice bonus as was the complimentary wine and drinks and fresh gingerbread!

Stayed in Ruskin suite which was very comfortable and had multi views of Grasmere and the property. Very friendly staff. Would recommend. Plenty of free parking and a really nice place to stay to enjoy Grasmere after the daytrippers have left. Tried three pubs in the village on different nights and all were good.

Travelled for my Bday with the family and felt like I was in a Faulty Towers episode. after moving to the rooms we discovered they were not ready, bathrobes and towels needed to be looked for for 30 minutes to allow us a pre-booked spa slot, dinner service was poor and our drinks got consistently forgotten. reception unhelpful at best and plain unfriendly at worst. Definitely not worth the amount of money I spent in this place!! Not returning.

Went for one night. Had lovely time in this hotel. Staff extremely attentive. Felt very looked after. Room was nice. Food exceptional. Enjoyed the swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is a lovely warm cosy feeling about this hotel. The dining experience felt very special. And there is a fabulous sitting area for tea coffee or drinks- which although nice and intimate allows you to easily chat with other guests. Location is perfect. Access to local shops and nice walks. Would come again. This hotel made my journey and time with my daughter very special. Thank you.

We had a 5 night stay and qualified for the Summer Sensation offer (even in November!) Definitely worth it for what's included. I can see why the staff crop up on nearly every review - they are all excellent, efficient and attentive without being too formal. Certain to return to the Wordsworth and/or one of the other hotels in the group.
