We stayed for 3 nights from 19th-22nd May, we were attending a wedding in the area and wanted somewhere to extend it to a weekend break. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout however, the initial investment to move away from a conference centre needs updating. The first room we were allocated had carpet I would expect to find in an office and bed that squeaked everytime I shifted my weight to the extent that it woke me and my husband up throughout the night. Having told the reception staff after the first night I was advised they would let the maintenance team know. We returned very late that day and it was clear nothing had been done about the bed but just went to bed because of the time. When I complained the next day that I was told that the maintenance team don’t work weekends. We were not initially offered another room because the hotel was apparently full. The second morning we were offered another room, which was smaller than the first, and that was not very big! We were offered a third room which was larger than the first two, but had ants near the window and you could tell the bed has not been updated for a while as the spring could be felt in the mattress. We gave up and slept in the room and it was a better night than the first two. We also found a detection card of some kind under the bed of the first room that was dated from 2001! And there were other signs around the hotels main building and additional buildings that they just don’t have enough staff, things like beer glasses around from events the day/night before but still out at midday. The overall impression is that outside weddings and conferences it’s trying to compete with a mid-range hotel market, however, despite paying more it didn’t feel like we got a room or bed that couldn’t be matched in a chain of hotels who would guarantee a good night sleep and ensure the beds were regularly updated. The breakfast was included but nothing that couldn’t be had in a well-known chain and with less choice/options. We wouldn’t recommend it unless you were staying overnight as part of a wedding package/party. Ok for one night but disappointing as a weekend getaway.

Having worked at Salomons when it was part of a university I was curious to find out what it was like now. It has been a spectacular wedding and conference centre for a long time and my impression was that they are making the best of what they have in the way of accommodation. Having read some of the reviews I was apprehensive that the noise level at night would be a bit out of our comfort zone. The old accommodation block lacks sound-proofing. We asked for a quiet room and were given one on the end of a block where no-one would walk past late at night. We had a very quiet and peaceful night but I can see that if we had been unlucky with noisy neighbours above, below or next door there would be no escape! The room was very clean, the bathroom was good, lots of hot water and heating which worked on demand. The furniture was borderline institutional but the bed was comfortable there was plenty of storage, a safe and adequate tea and coffee. In all we felt that the room was very good value. We ate in the conservatory which has wonderful views across the estate and the weald. The steak was over cooked but my salmon and langoustine salad was superb, the chips were fresh and hot and the dessert wonderful. Breakfast sis not quite come up to the same standard but was adequate and of acceptable quality. All the staff we met were very helpful, pleasant and welcoming. I can't think of a nicer location for short break but next time we will be investigating the new self-catering cottages in a quiet area.

I came to a wedding here, the main house and grounds were stunning. The accommodation looked a bit military from the outside but the room itself was attractive, spotless and comfortable. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The only negative was the food, both the food served at the wedding and the breakfast next day were middling and what was served at the wedding were some odd combinations, though possibly this was a choice of the wedding party.

Where do I start… I wanted somewhere to host My 60th birthday, I dint want a party just a lovely Sunday lunch with family & friends. When I contacted Salomons it was suggested that I held it in one of their event rooms and “The Gold Room “ was recommended . It was just a perfect venue , from the organising with the menu and the communication from the events team everything was perfect. When we arrived on the Sunday the staff were so friendly and helpful I couldn’t ask for anything else. We were shown to the room where it was laid out perfectly. We had brilliant service . The food was absolutely perfect , hot and plenty of it. We never felt rushed between courses. I would definitely recommend Salomons. Thankyou to everyone involved that made my event special.

We had a lovely lunch and a snoop around this great and fascinating building - well worth a visit. And we had some tremendous service from receptionists and waiters The manager, however, was outrageously inhospitable. There was a misunderstanding around our temporarily using a free room for a business call to South Africa during which he burst in and shouted at my colleague. No-one in the service industry should jeopardise potential revenue for the organisation that employs them by showing hostility to paying customers in the way that fellow did. We are looking at other possibilities in the area now for our monthly meetings as a direct result of the manager’s behaviour. Which is a shame - it would have worked well for us and our 30 employees.

My husband and I had our wedding here two weeks ago today. I work for the Markerstudy group and chose the venue as we know how beautiful it is and it was in our price range. The attention to detail and contact was brilliant. We had Lauren as our wedding co-ordinator who was fantastic. We had a hog roast package and it couldn’t have been any more perfect! We had the most perfect day. Thank you so much

Where do I even begin with Salomons Estate? The most beautiful wedding venue with stunning grounds, great food and perfect entertainment spaces! From the moment we first contacted them to the days after our wedding the events team (Erin and Fiona in particular) were incredible - they paid attention to every small detail and exceeded every expectation we had for our big day. We couldn’t recommend them more!

Having attended a number of events at Salomons - always good quality food and the staff are lovely - I booked a room for an overnight stay. Yes, the accommodation is in a modern block behind the main house as other reviewers had said but nevertheless the room was bright and cheerful, the bed comfortable, the bathroom clean, a suitable desk for my work, a kettle etc and a hairdryer - all my needs were perfectly met. Admittedly it was November stay - so outside the wedding season - so I had a blissfully quiet night. My evening meal and breakfast were served in the main house and were plentiful and delicious. The setting and grounds are beautiful. I would have no hesitation in staying at Salomons again.
