My friend and I went to Bridgewood Manor for an afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday, on our arrival we was taken to a seating area with a coal fire, the waitress came up to us and asked what we’d like to drink? We ordered our food and both food and drink was brought to us, i explained we was there as it was my friends birthday, so within minutes the 2 waitresses brought a plate with cakes on and Happy Birthday written in chocolate sauce, it brought tears to my fiends eyes, not sad tears definitely happy tears, the staff and food was amazing the staff made our visit worthwhile, we will definitely return and recommend this to anyone wanting to book an afternoon tea. Thank you for everything

Me, my husband, daughter and son in law stayed over for the Bridgewood Manor New Years Eve Gala Night. We had a brilliant evening. We arrived early but our rooms were ready and we were delighted to be told by the lovely, friendly receptionist that our rooms had been upgraded. The rooms were lovely. Everything in abundance re shampoo, shower gel etc. Free drinks in the fridge including wine and 2 welcome robes to relax in. Afternoon tea was included in the deal and we lined up for warm scones with jam and cream. Teas and coffees were from the machine and you helped yourself. A delicious start. Back to our rooms for showers and naps (in the robes!) before the big night. Everyone had made the effort and looked the part, smart casual or formal with black tie and long and short dresses with the ladies. We had booked quite late so were in a side room but we preferred this and would choose this again. There was a glass of sparkling wine on arrival. Drinks were ordered and paid for at the bar adjoining the function suite. The food was very good. The starters we chose were smoked salmon with a salmon mousse, asparagus and a delicious sauce. This was followed by a Mango Sorbet. Our men then had Beef Wellington whilst my daughter and I had Goats Cheese Tart. We were all very happy with our choices. The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. The dessert was cherry meringue and a chocolate sponge. It was purely personal preference but none of us liked the chocolate part. A little more of the cherry meringue would have been fine by itself. Tea, coffee and cheese and biscuits were help yourself if wanted. After dinner there was entertainment by a Ratpack Tribute Act. Didn’t sound like them but good voices and familiar songs. During the interval the DJ took over and had everyone on the floor dancing. Everyone joined in with the countdown to midnight and soon after we took a slow walk back to our rooms. The buffet breakfast was very good with one of the best selections of food I’ve seen in a hotel. Even down to smoked salmon and mackerel if wanted. We had a lovely, memorable New Year’s Eve and are already talking about booking for this year!

Firstly the location is perfect for visiting family, as many others in this area. Therefore the spa and gym and 4 star rating swung it. The gym, like the rest of the hotel is way past its best years. The spa and pool are OK, although, not all the showers work. The bar is OK, but neglected by the staff. Tables are dirty and often no one behind the bar. The restaurant has a below average menu. We decided to have a takeaway delivered. The atmosphere in general from staff throughout, lacks an enthusiasm or motivation for working there. Avoid.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am very sorry you feel that the hotel is past its best years. There are some areas that require refurbishment and we are working on these throughout the year. We have refurbished a large number of our rooms, refurbished and carpeted our function rooms, and just received a brand new gym equipment set. Whilst we do check all areas and equipment regularly, there are occasions when equipment such as a shower may not work. As soon as we are notified or we ourselves have identified an issue, we aim to get the issue resolved as soon as possible. We make every effort to present our guests with a comfortable and fresh environment. I am especially disappointed that you felt the staff atmosphere was unenthusiastic. I am sorry that this is the impression that you received as I am very aware that our staff work very hard to try and ensure guests have the best stay that they can, I know they would be very disappointed to think that they came across in this way. If you would like to get in contact with me directly so that I can learn more about your experience and see where we can improve that would be great. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards Christopher

This hotel is very old-fashioned, the carpets and the furniture looks like they're from the 1980s. The room was fairly clean and staff on the whole are friendly. However, the room was very hot and guests have no control over the temperature which meant I had to sleep with the window open and use the fan that is provided all night which is a waste of energy. The big issue with this hotel is the cost and quality of the food. Me and my partner ordered breakfast with the room each day and what a massive disappointment. The first morning we had breakfast the sausages were pink in the middle, the bacon resembled leather and was almost black in parts. The fried eggs were very hard and the fried bread I was not brave enough to try it as they were all different shades of dark brown. I can honestly say that for an English hotel this is the WORST fried breakfast I have ever had in the UK and I have lived in the UK my whole life. The next morning it was marginally better but the woman in there was very rude. After sitting down she then asked me to move in which I declined. She took great offence to this. My advice to the hotel is either improve the breakfast and train staff to cook the food correctly and greet customers at the door or do not offer this service any longer. Furthermore, breakfast should be fresh or cooked to order. At best people will be disappointed at worst people will be poisoned. The food in the restaurant is extremely overpriced for what you actually receive. The prices on the website are incorrect and state a cheaper price for some items than they actually are on the menu in the bar and restaurant. Most main courses start from £15 which is unreasonable for a hotel of this calibre. I would expect to pay this at a much better hotel. This could lead to people ordering food from one of the online food couriers as you can get better food for a third of the price. My advice for the hotel is to lower your prices, it should not cost £30 for two very small portions of chips and two pieces of fish. Furthermore, the chips are of low quality and seem oven baked not fried. The onion rings that I also bought separately were from a cheap freezer pack and again oven baked. I would consider staying here again if they just improve the food and lower the prices or my advice to guest order food from somewhere else as you can almost get any food delivered now at a much better price and do not get breakfast with your room.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry you feel this way about your stay with us. I am shocked at your response to the English Breakfast as we get so many compliments about our breakfast buffet. Whilst I do appreciate you may not like your bacon cooked in this way, many people do enjoy. I am sure that the staff would have asked the Chef to make you bacon the way you preferred if you had asked. The staff do go out of their way to try to ensure that guests have the best stay. I have never experience or had reports of any of the breakfast staff being rude, however, I will look into who was on that morning and draw this to their attention. We will always try to improve. The sausages are cooked to the correct temperature and cooked thoroughly. We keep full records of all of this. Some of our rooms are due for refurbishment, I am sorry that you may have been allocated one of these. If you are unsatisfied with your room please do tell reception as we will try, where possible, to move you to another room. In regard to the heating the heating in the room is controlled by the thermostat on the radiators. I am sorry you missed this, we would have happily helped if there were any issues. We do hope we can welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards

Thank you for your review. We have responded to your email. Whilst you have stated here that it was horrendous check in to check out the issue you have raised was that the noise from the Xmas parties was too loud. We had your room allocated to the second floor which is quieter and we even offered to move your room with a free upgrade to an even quieter area of the hotel. You unfortunately chose to refuse this option as a solution. Other than the noise your other complaint was that you were unable to get a table in the restaurant. Whilst we do keep the restaurant open for guests even on the fully booked event nights, we cannot guarantee a table without guests pre-booking. This would be the same as any restaurant. We do ensure we do not take any dinner inclusive bookings to prevent any service issues. This is all done to ensure that we can provide the best service possible to our guests. I am sorry that on this occasion your stay did not meet your expectations. We do look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards Christopher

Hotel is tired and dirty the spa pool area dirty as I was swimming hair was getting caught in my fingers. Head board room was dirty and fell off the wall. Needs a total overhaul it could be nice but I’m afraid it needs money spent on it. Staff were lovely but inexperienced two glasses of wine and a lemonade £20 expensive. Food was ok won’t be going back

Thank you for leaving a comment about your recent stay. The hotel is always improving and refurbishing areas of the hotel with a new steam room, sauna, pool furniture, 8 bathrooms, 5 bedroom carpets etc. and next month brand new gym equipment. Sometimes the aged areas do look as though they are not clean but is not always the cast. We will be sure to pass your comments to the leisure manager. Thank you for your kind comments about the staff and yes some are young and not been working here so long and they will improve as they gain experience and confidence. Our pricing is that of any 4 star hotel if not on the less expensive side of our competitors. regards Steve

Room was nice. Spa treatment was great, but spa area was disappointing. Pool was small, no jacuzzi and sauna and steam room were small. You could only fit 4 people at a push in the steam room. The relaxation area was not a separate room and was tiny. Food at the Squires restaurant was great.

I visit Bridgewood manor regularly on child free nights. The atmosphere is always very welcoming and staff are always extremely helpful. The spa facilities are always extremely pleasant and how can you go wrong with a white robe and slippers! Bedrooms are spacious and extremely clean. Prices are incredibly generous and always leave extremely happy & relaxed. Will be definitely coming again.

The best thing about this hotel was the bed. Very comfortable and made for a good nights sleep. The breakfast was a good 9/10 too. However… the spa needs serious updating. I also treated myself to a deep tissue massage… I wish I hadn’t. I didn’t get the full hour I paid for (lasted around 45mins at most) and I’m surprised my skin wasn’t ripped off as the ladies nails scraped me throughout. The room service was passable, but where the £5 tray charge goes, when the half the drinks have created a pool on the tray…. I don’t know. Lots of young people are running this hotel and it seems half of them just can’t be bothered. I got room service only because I persevered for 15/20 mins each time as no one was answering the phones. The food we received in room service was also not great. Soggy chips, luke warm nachos and a ham hock sandwich with none of the trimmings described in the menu. Poor. Won’t be staying again.

Thank you for your review. I am really glad that you enjoyed your bed and the breakfast buffet. We are aware that the spa requires refurbishment and this is all planned within our capital expenditure plan for the next year. Whilst the treatment is for 1hour, as with all spas and treatment centres, this includes the time in which you get prepared in the room and the post treatment time in which guests get dressed etc. this along with any discussions that happen with the therapist are a total of 1 hour. I am sorry that this was not what you expected. Our Spa manager regularly checks all employees nail lengths etc for exactly this reason and they are all kept to an acceptable standard. If these nails were an issue for you this could have been discussed with the therapist who I am certain would have adjusted the way in which they were giving the treatment to account for your comfort. We were full booked almost every evening recently and this may have been the reason that the phones were not answered immediately. Whilst the team always endeavour to answer phones within just a few rings it is not always possible when they are busy attending to guests. All food is temperature checked and the chips are never normally of a sub standard, I will look into this to ensure this does not happen again. I am confused and concerned about your comment regarding young people running the hotel. All of our management team are over 30 and all of our supervisors and duty managers are in their 20s. Not that age should be a factor in judging anything, but the team are very competent and professional. We do have some younger staff which is quite normal within most industries especially the hospitality sector. The majority of our younger staff are in University so definitely not kids. It is a shame that you feel so disappointed, I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards Christopher
