We stayed at the hotel to visit Southampton boat show. Location is excellent; close to the show and right amongst pubs, restaurants and shops. It was difficult to find car park but use sat nav and put it ‘back of the walls’ and it’s gets to to a lovely large carpark at back of hotel. Charge is £5 per day. Check in was swift and problem free. Staff are very nice. We had breakfast 1 day and it was absolutely lovely. Lots of choice hot and cold.. again couldn’t fault it. The room is large with all the amenities you need, but unfortunately it needs a desperate upgrade and redecoration. The room is clean and bed is so comfortable.. we had 2 great night sleep in room 16 and if they upgrade we would return. Added some pics just to show room as we like to give a fair and honest review.…
Despite our group organiser having had made a mistake with the booking, the owner quickly and very happily accommodated for us and ensured we still had a place to drinks and eat within the establishment, absolutely pleased with the quick turn around on the situation and proactive response.
Unfortunately it was the only hotel available at the time of booking that was central. It's the worst hotel I have ever booked into for five nights. Don't expect your rooms to be cleaned, I had to go down to reception to ask why my room wasn't cleaned and was informed of the housekeepers been too busy. So once you are booked in, you become irrelevant! The receptionist had to get clean towels and cups for me, which really should not be her job. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have these issues. Doors bang, floors creaking constantly, I actually thought someone was in my room during the night it was so loud. Dirty walls, ripped beds and curtains off the hooks...so much for management. Oh well you decide for yourself.
What a huge disappointment. This hotel is advertised as 3* Who rated that? We would say 2* at best and that’s being generous! Having paid £190 a night, albeit during the boat show, this place is just awful. Please reflect on my other reviews as I don’t report badly, unless true experience reflects the necessity! I’ll let the photo’s illustrate our £190 a night room. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This is the worst experience we’ve ever had in the UK. Shame on you Mercure! We doubt you’ll care or consider this review as your hotel is full and you’re making big money. We will do all we can to highlight your disgusting rooms and complete disregard for decency and honesty about your poorly staffed, dirty and poorly maintained hotel here in Southampton. Having booked weeks earlier at nearly FIVE TIMES your normal rate, we would have thought you could have reserved one of your ‘decent’ rooms. When we complained about the state of our room and asked to be switched the apology came back, ‘sorry, all our rooms are booked. We are full’. Mmmmm…bad planning at play here don’t you think? So, having complained at the front desk after a very unpleasant stay we were told that some rooms are below their usual standard and will be refurbished. We say, thank you for charging us top rates to stay in one of your worst rooms!…
Spent £190 for 1 night, the room was filthy, curtains mouldy and we were in one of the new rooms! Doors and walls were filthy, Bathroom needed a bleach and carpet and chair needed a vax. Chose not to eat there as if the rooms are this dirty can’t imagine what the kitchen is like. Only positive is the location.
Recently, we stayed at Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel after our great cruise. The hotel's location is great. There were excellent services by their staff, Chrisa, Tracy and Michael. Our rooms were clean and good. The variety of food at breakfast was wonderful. Raja Singapore
Having read all the negative reviews I did not know what to expect. My family and I were pleasantly surprised. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was amazing. Excellent location. We would definitely go again. It is also dog friendly they have bowls out for the dogs.
We stayed at The Dolphin as part of a deal to visit Paulton's Park/ Peppa Pig and were quite concerned having read many of the reviews. Admittedly the hotel is a bit tired and not pristine, but the rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and the vast majority of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Chrisa and Tracy on reception were particularly helpful and kind and the cockney barman was a great person to speak to and an asset to the hotel. Breakfast experience was not brilliant on the first day, bank holiday Monday, but the day after everything was as hoped and expected. The location could hardly be better and if we need to stay in Southampton again we won't look for anywhere else.
We stayed here as a family for a night before our holiday and I have to say I don’t think I will bother to come back again. From the outside the hotel looks tatty and worn down, the reception was nice and modern and the staff where friendly. When we got to our room it was so extremely hot due to the weather outside, with 1 rubbish fan that just blew out hot air, curtains were ripped and didn’t and couldn’t close, we hardly spent anytime due to how hot it was it was just unbearable. We had 1 bath towel and needed linen for the extra bed for the kids which had to be requested even though we had booked a family room for 4 people. We had to request more toilet paper as only given half a roll in the room. The room was very dated and needed a serious make over, I have to say I was very disappointed with how much we paid for the room and the standard of it. We spent so much time in the town just walking round so we didn’t have to go back as just as you showered and were clean you were absolutely sweating again. We had a 2 year old and buggy with us and we’re put on a floor not accessible with either and was a struggle with luggage also. The breakfast was ok and restaurant was nice. We got ourselves a drink in the bar before leaving and the young man behind the bar didn’t really have a clue what he was doing, I ordered a Processo and it was warm as the fridge wasn’t on and he poured into a wine glass but is not anything major but it wasn’t nice. He broke a bottle of wine by accident then served us and went back outside on his break, when I went outside to get air I mentioned about the wine on the floor, he swore about it and ran back in to finally clean it up, his language and presentation was appalling. When we came back from our holiday to collect our car the kids needed the toilet so we popped back in, it was so much cooler outside so thought it would be nice indoors but again the toilets were hotter then hell and just so unbelievable. Some sort of air-con or better ventilation is most definitely needed and major decoration is needed inside and out…
The room was fantastic, altho yes the decor could do with a refresh. Spent a while in the bar and have to say it was the highlight of our stay in Southampton. Nathan know his stuff when it comes to whisky and rum, and he engaged with both us and with our 9 yrs old son throughout the evening. If you stay here make sure to visit the bar and share in the wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm that Nathan offers!!
