Detailed Reviews
Great little hotel with a family-run feeling. Room was very spacious, with a very comfortable bed, flat-screen TV, coffee-making facilities, and a lovely bathroom. Set in a quiet area, whilst still being within walking distance of the town centre. Staff were very polite and courteous, and keen to give advice and tips. Breakfast was a very good continental. Great for an overnight or weekend stay! And fantastic for a 3*.

This hotel is brilliant. I went for a weekend to Southampton to visit friends and always like to book a hotel so I can have my own bathroom, bed etc. Usually I stay at Premier Inn (number 1 on here) and to be fair it is a great hotel and you know what you are going to get. However, for me, the Blue Keys is better and should be number 1.
The staff here are just different league. From the outset they were so accommodating and did everything to make our stay perfect. An example being they let me keep my car there for the day after I had checked out at no additional cost.
We had dinner at the hotel and the food was great and the staff let us pay the following morning for the meal and didn't take a card or anything (very trusting). The food was home made and it really showed.
The room itself was everything you need. Clean, comfy, 2 pillows per person, tv etc.
This hotel is full of character and I really wouldn't look any further than here for your stay in Southampton. Bear in mind that for places like Premier Inn, the brand itself gets a few points whereas hotels like this really have to go the extra mile to get votes so for this place to be so high on trip advisor, it must be good!

Spent one night here before boarding QM2 in Southampton. Lovely wee hotel. Friendly staff, spotlessly clean. Central for shopping and cruise terminal. Wonderful breakfast. Evening meals and lunch available although we did not partake but saw other guests enjoying what looked like a lovely dinner. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.

We booked this hotel for a wedding that was supposed to take place on May 30th, 2020. Due to COVID-19, we were unable to get to the UK because travel between the countries is completely shut down. The hotel continues to refuse to give us our money back, or even provide us with a credit to use at a future date. They have told us we are completely out of the $650 we spent on the booking. Absolutely disgusting in this time where people are dying and losing their jobs. We both lost our jobs and desperately need the money. The only response we got back from the hotel was a VERY rude email from Matthew (who refused to give last name), who did offer to remove our booking without a refund, so they could fill our room and collect a double income on the room. I am writing this review to ensure that no one makes the same mistake that we did. DO NOT book this hotel, as if you have any kind of emergency, or even a Pandemic that is affecting everyone in the world, they will do nothing for you.

Appreciate that with Covid-19 hospitality is in chaos. BUT.....We have the hotel booked for September and have been trying to contact them since beginning of July to discuss options following cancellation of our cruise. We were happy to come and have a night away if they were open but absolutely no response to several enquiries
Disappointed that we will now have to resort to credit card company as absolutely no response to emails, phone messages, Facebook and messenger.
This does not inspire any confidence in the brand.

We booked -our cruise was cancelled. We tried to speak to property to switch our booking and ultimately to check if they are open if we did go down . They ignored numerous attempts by ourselves and Booking.com to contact them
Don’t book here if you have a problem the property does not answer the phone emails or contact through booking .com
Not good service ...........

It seems that when this hotel changed hands, it did not remain a full-service hotel. It is a crumbling building functioning more like and AirBNB type of operation. There is no reception. No staff. They are not on any of the communication apps so if you do not have a UK phone, you're in trouble if you need access!! We had to stop a passer-by to use her phone which is inappropriate for a business.
There is NO breakfast or bar. The yard is a shambles and gives the impression that the place is almost abandoned. The room itself was really dated. No WIFI - or at least we had no way to get a WIFI password and did not see a WIFI available in our phones.
The beds were comfortable enough but there were only two towels for our three guests. The bathroom was dated but functional. Everything seemed clean enough but this is not the hotel you think you're booking.

This hotel has changed hands since we went there pre covid. In my opinion it is no longer fit for purpose. No reception , no restuarant, no breakfast , no staff. We were told that the change of ownership is reflected in the cheap price. I don't think that £133 is cheap.

I have recently discovered the Blue Keys which serves delicious food with very attentive service. I have been on a couple of occasions since my initial visit but unfortunately tonight when things went wrong the management responded in an inappropriate manner. At first everything was fine with good, friendly service from the young blonde girl and delicious home made burgers. My daughter ordered a treacle sponge pudding which had sharp bits of plastic in it. When I pointed this out to the man behind the bar (who I later discovered was the duty manager) he agreed that it had come from the container that the pudding came in. I informed him that I would not pay for the pudding and he agreed. I had hoped that as we had visited on a few previous occasions ( and tipped for the service that we had received) that a goodwill gesture (like a free drink) would have been forthcoming. I was offered a free drink "on my next "visit, without anyone checking whether I lived nearby and whether it would be feasible for me to visit again. I said that as I may not visit again I would prefer the deduction to be made from my current bill as my daughter could have injured her mouth had she not noticed the sharp plastic within her pudding. This is where "customer service" went out of the door! He said "she didn't injure herself, did she?" It was a shame that he was unable to see the bigger picture ie that humouring a previously happy and appreciative customer (tips etc) would have resulted in continued patronage of the establishment. I am sorry that his short sighted ( and confrontational attitude, which I have not gone into detail about here) has resulted not only in a loss of my continued visits but also those of my friends, colleagues and family.

Me and my husband stayed for one night prior to a cruise ship visit.
Good Points:
The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was basic, but clean and comfortable as was the bathroom. On arrival we were offered help with our cases; after unpacking we went down to the bar which was quiet (we were the only ones there) but comfortable with a tv showing the rugby (which pleased my husband!). Breakfast the following morning was good - we only had croissant (which was warm) and coffee but it was plentiful. Other diners had the full English which appeared to be very good. Good location for the cruise terminal which was an easy 10-15 minute drive,
Bad Point:
I had telephoned a couple of weeks before to book a table for dinner in the restaurant. However, I was not told that the whole restaurant had been booked out for an engagement party, a fact we discovered when we were sitting in the bar in the afternoon and the staff were putting up banners and balloons. When we came down for dinner in the evening our table was in the corner of the bar and we were sitting trying to eat our meal surrounded by party guests and feeling a bit conspicuous. Had we known beforehand, or even been told on arrival, we could have had the choice of either running with it, or going into Southampton for dinner. Not only that, our room was over the bar and the noise of the party went on until past midnight, when we subsequently heard people going to their rooms.
As we had to leave reasonably early on the Sunday morning we didn't mention it on departure, but think it would be something for the owners/staff to bear in mind. We're fairly relaxed but we didn't feel very comfortable - I can imagine that some people would have found it a real problem and been extremely upset.

We too are having issues with this hotel, we booked in Jan 2020 for 26th Sep and have sent e-mails & left messages on their answer phone and had no response. As time for our stay is getting close they are due to take payment 48hrs before our stay, so we are concerned this may happen. Are you able to tell me if you had any issues with payments? Kind Regards
Hi - have you explored going by National Express coach ? Prices vary for different times of the year ~ £15-£20 each. Coaches go from Coach Station not far from the port or from the University. Just check out on-line (system won't let me put in a link !).
Hi Bogey69, Yes we are from Australia and we still own the hotel? Please let us know if we can help with anything.
Hi Kym We are about 15mins to Peppa Pig World. Dinner reservations are not necessary however at checkin our staff will check with you to see if you would like to dine with us. Thanks
