We looked on the internet and saw this Novatel hotel very appealing from the photos. Boy, what a disappointment! Nothing like what they posted. Just a plain walls with 2 beds with white bed sheets. Even Motel6 is so much better than this. It was a warm day and there is NO AC. I called the technical support guy and he told me to leave the thermostat at 0 and the cold will eventually come. NO it never came. To make things work, their windows can only be opened a few inches, probably for security reasons. The next day when I checked out, only then the receptionist told me the hotel does not have AC. The technician guy lied to me. Also the hotel hallways are very narrow, dim and dingy. I stayed at other Novatels in the past and they are superb. Definitely not this one. Less than 1 star. The only good thing is, the breakfast buffet is good. Overall I'm very disappointed at this hotel especially we paid over US $225 for that Saturday night. Oh, and the hotel parking is a mess…
My room was spotlessly clean, spacious with a very comfortable settee which I later realised was a bed setter. I had an excellent night’s sleep on the best mattress I have ever encountered in an hotel. The shower was also excellent. There was a generous selection of teas and coffee available and, for the first time ever in my experience of an hotel small cartons of fresh semi-skimmed milk. In the past I have been a frequent user of Ibis hotels but on this occasion due to reduced numbers as a result of Covid all Accor guests were accommodated in the Novatel. In the light if my experience here my next bookings will definitely be with Novatel.
The good points of this hotel were that it had last minute availability during the Boat Show weekend and 2 lovely members of staff....a friendly receptionist and a barmaid, short dark hair and a great attitude! The negatives....£200 for a twin room with dirty light switches, stained carpet (bleach?), and a lethally slippy bath/shower. The receptionist who booked us in kept repeating that he worked in the other building and ignored my comment that I was checking in with an elderly relative who had just been released from hospital...I was left to manage her, her walker and all our luggage. Not impressed
If booking a taxi for the Southampton cruise terminal, be sure to book it very early. Our check in time for the ship was 11.00. We were advised to order the taxi for 10.00 as they are notoriously late. The hotel receptionist said that she had advised the taxi company that there were 3 adult passengers with 3 large suitcases & 3 pieces of hand luggage. The first taxi arrived 11.20. It could take 3 passengers but only 1 case. The 2nd taxi arrived at 12.20. We were told that the traffic was bad. The journey took 10 minutes!!
Stayed here for 2 nights. £180 per night plus £10 a night parking and the room was disgusting. Lobby looked nice but beyond that it is not a nice place. Will never ever stay here again or recommend this hotel to anywhere. Walked into a room where toilet wasn’t flushed, shower covered in hair, stains on everything, carpet was damaged and felt dirty to walk on. Bathroom layout was weird, no sink in the dungeon the toilet was situated. The bathroom tap fell off, sink stank like a sewer. The pool was ok, although every lounger was broken and fixed with gorilla tape. Breakfast was ok, hence the two stars otherwise it would be one star!
I'm easily pleased and others would be hard pushed to give it a 4 star rating but here's the reasons why. The finishing in the bathroom ain't the best. Looks a bit grubby in places and the shower screen is not big enough to stop the bathroom floor looking like the deep end of an Olympic swimming pool after one shower. The toilet is in a separate room and looks like a detention cell in Guantanamo Bay, but does the job. Could be quite claustrophobic though for those who don't like small spaces. No toilet brush either. Also the coffee machine, a Nespresso machine, could have done with a clean so didn't use it. On the other hand, plenty of hanging space for a couple of nights and an iron and ironing board which are god sends when away. The bed was comfortable, pillows could have been a bit firmer but beggars can't be choosers. Check in was smooth and efficient. Pay for parking at check in. £10 per night as previously advised and plenty off spaces when we stayed it seemed. Then the breakfast. Better than I expected. We went down both mornings at 8 am and first morning was quiet and 2nd was very busy. On both days plenty of options and choice and didn't have to wait for anything. Great coffee machine with lovely coffee, plenty of juice and pastries. Polite and friendly staff. Enough food and options to keep 2 grown men and a child fed before a busy day ahead. Believe if you pay separately for the breakfast the all in option is £14.95. Wouldn't pay that on top of the room cost but as it was included it was spot on. Other may rate it lower but dod the job for us and calling it an executive is stretching it in my opinion. But nothing to put me off staying again in the future as a short walk away from main shopping and eating areas. …
We stayed in this hotel 5th and 6th September and checked out at 4.30 am 7th September. Upon our arrival alot of litter at front of hotel. We arrived before check in time so expected our room not to be ready and we were right it wasn't ready but we're told it'd be a whopping 20 pound for parking for 2 days, I'm Irish and in hotels in Ireland if your a guest your parking price is part of the stay cost so we were a bit shocked by this.. so we asked could we use the hotel bar. The menu looked nice. I ordered the steak well done, I ordered my 3 year old "chicken goujons and chips" and my partner ordered the pizza. The girl taking our order was a trainee but it seemed she was very out of her debt taking our order, and told us the restaurant was very low on ingredients which isn't very reassuring as a first impression of a hotel also the area right beside us was being painted so the fumes of wet paint when trying to eat a meal wasn't pleasant either. I asked for 2 cokes with our food and we were served pepsi max or something like that definitely not coca cola. No chicken goujons were brought out but instead chicken nuggets similar to McDonald's came out, my steak wasn't well done more on the medium side and the pizza was less than exciting also an extra fries we didnt ask for but we're charged for were brought out. The bill was fair at 54.00 pound. Our room was bog standard, nothing exciting and a bit outdated. The carpet throughout the second floor is extremely stained as was the room carpet. The toilet is in a tiny closet type room and the sink and shower is in a different room which seemed ridiculous. The first night we stayed the smell of weed in this non smoking hotel was horrendous someone was having a great time in there room by the smell of things. The pool is beautiful visually a little small but the water is absolutely freezing and you have to walk through a freezing cold gym to get to the changing rooms that are tiny. Breakfast was ok not much of a choice, pastrys were average hot breakfast was ok. As mentioned above we had a long drive back and were checking out at 4.30am on the 7th so we expected to miss breakfast ( that we had paid for) however we noticed a little sign saying a packed breakfast could be given from 4am and to speak to the receptionist about it. When I asked Joyce the receptionist she looked baffled and told ME to go to speak to the restaurant about it, this surely isn't up to me this definitely falls under the receptionist duty so I said no I'd be back in a few hours if she could organise it for me and I'd speak to her later on it. When I came back a few hours later a different very friendly receptionist was on duty. I asked her about the breakfast and immediately said she'd go speak to the restaurant for me - which I really appreciated. She came back and told me no hot food would be packed only pastries juice and fruit. I gave her a small list and she told me it'd be ready for collection from 4am the next morning. Next morning (check out day) I ask a new receptionist for breakfast where she hands it to me and asks me for 9.99 I asked for what?! She said for breakfast I told her we already paid for breakfast she said there is a 9.99 charge for packed breakfast, they were trying to charge me 9.99 for putting a few croissants in a bag!? Obviously I refused to pay and we handed her our key cards and left. Will not be using hotel again.…
We stayed the bank holiday weekend and we loved it we had a clean room, two kids so they pull out bed. Both were comfy and clean. Quiet peaceful nights sleep. The reviews almost put us off but our room was clean and all was fine for our stay. They cleaned our room whilst we went to paultons park and out the following day giving us more than enough towels etc. would definitely go back.
The hotel is generally OK. The beds are comfy. The rooms though are not very clean. There are stains on the carpet and walls. They need a good deep clean. I would not rate it a 4 star. We did not use the restaurant, but hotel in a great place for Southampton shopping.
Really lovely hotel. Only stayed one night, but the staff were super helpful and polite. Kids loved the pool. Used the gym, which was great. For the price paid, it was great value for money. Restaurant food was lovely, allowed kids to change menu and when they didn't have the vegan dessert I asked for, they gave me a selection of vegan cakes on the house 😋 Would happily return
